Bad product for synching to Gmail
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were really excited to use this product but after hooking it up realized that it does not work with Google suite. So if you have a family all on multiple google email accounts all under Gsuite, it will not work. I can't believe that a Google product would not make sure that a new product would work with other products in their family. It is a big miss and a rush to deliver for the holidays. I love Google but this really disappoints. We actually bought more than one and returned all of them.

Excellent concept, but leaves me wanting more.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a very early adopter of the regular Google home speaker when it first came out. Most people agreed at that time that it was a great speaker, but still had a lot of room to grow and a lot of features that needed to be added to it. This is pretty much the way I feel about the Google Home Hub. Its an awesome idea, the product looks very well built and is very functional, but there are things I want it to do and things it should be able to do that it cant do right now. But as with the google home speaker, I am sure that in time this Home Hub will evolve and become the device it was meant to be! I will start with just the overall design. It basically looks like your average 7" tablet that is on a small stand. Nothing great, but nothing too horrible either. I think it would be nice to see less of a bezel on it instead of the 1/2" white bezel thats around it now. ....or at the very least, make the bezel black so its less noticeable. The setup was as easy as can be. Plug it in, open the google home app, and connect to it. My phone found the Home Hub in a matter of seconds, and I was up and running in a couple minutes. The hub has all the features you know and love from the regular google home speaker. The built in assistant is exactly the same. But now you get the bonus of having a video screen as well. You can say, show me a youtube video on how to make fondant potatoes....and it will pull up a video and you can watch it right there. Or you can say, play me the Metallica Enter Sandman video and it will pull that up and play it for you. It adds a whole new element to the google voice assistant that was lacking from just the regular speaker. I am a little disappointed that the sound quality of the speaker is more like a google home mini than the google home. I think maybe a slightly bigger screen and a bigger speaker would have been a better option. One thing that was a HUGE problem with the google home speaker was trying to connect it to an external Bluetooth speaker. The audio was always really choppy and pretty much un-listenable. I am VERY happy to report that problem has been fixed with this home hub. Just for that feature alone I would recommend getting it! I have been running audio via Bluetooth to my soundbar for hours and it hasn't so much has skipped once. I wont go through everything that the home hub can do since I dont have every smart device ever made. But it works great with my hue lights and wemo and tp-link smart plugs. One thing I am a bit disappointed in is that it currently doesnt have much support for the Ring ecosystem. Right now you can only view video and things from the Nest doorbells (since that company was bought by google) I am hoping that in the future they will offer the same functionality for Ring users as well. I have a nest thermostat and door lock and it works great with those. I can lock the door and change my thermostat settings with my voice or using the touchscreen. But my ring doorbell and floodlight I have to use with my phone. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. It still feels like its kind of a beta product in some aspects. But if the google home speaker is any indication....google will continue to improve it and add more functionality to it in the future. For watching youtube videos and checking weather and your commute and calendar and all that stuff...its awesome to have a video screen added to the google assistant and the touchscreen to interact with it. I think this would fit in perfectly in any home in the world! .....and if you are one of the many that have been frustrated by trying to stream music from your google home speaker to your soundbar. Get this ASAP and all your problems will be solved!

Smart speaker with dumb display
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a smart all time connected speaker with a dumb display. It would be nice to keep the time when power goes away. Also to have a choice to display time, or day or time and day maybe even contact at the same time. It would be nice to arrange according to your needs like an informatic hub on the home screen like a smart display without the need to touch it or talk to it.

Google smart and stylish but weak sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Home Hub is an interesting alternative to the much larger and more expensive Amazon Show and likely to be the first choice of those who want a more basic home assistant. It is much more compact and stylish -- Amazon really needs to hire some designers -- but lacks a camera. Thats bad for those who like video conferencing, good for those paranoid about cameras watching them all the time -- especially in the bedroom. You can still call friends with the hub but it is audio only. The speaker on the Hub is far less impressive than the one in the Show but sounds just OK if you dont crank up the volume too much. No awards for sound quality here. But the ambient light sensor on the Hub is far better than the Show's if you are one of those people who hyper about LCD displays being too bright at night. I found the Hub display too dark most of the time and barely even visible at night. The good news is you can turn off the ambient light sensor and set the brightness manually if you like. Generally speaking, the Google Home Hub is much smarter than the Show because Google is smarter than Alexa. It is more conversational, understands almost anything you want to ask and probably has the answer most of the time. You will never hear it mimic Alexa and say "I'm not sure about that." It even types out and displays what you are saying as you say it, so you are sure it is hearing you correctly, a nice touch. And like Alexa, can be trained to recognize individual voices. Voice recognition is excellent, long a Google advantage, and you get to decide whether you want to have a male or female voice. Another big plus for the Home Hub is its tight integration with YouTube, no surprise there since Google owns it. (Amazon's ongoing feud with Google means no YouTube on the Show or Spot) That makes the Hub a much more capable kitchen assistant, for example, since it can quickly grab recipes and videos and display them on the small screen. There is also easy access to YouTube music, (unsurprisingly) but also Pandora, Spotify and a few others. I found setup to be a breeze. Just plug in the hub and then download and launch the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet. Tell it search for new devices, follow the step by step directions and you are quickly done. If you already have the app for other Google devices, it already knows your wi-fi settings so no password required. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the Hub is that it's a Hub. You can control almost any smart device that is Google compatible (most of them are) from this one device, which is handy if you don't already have a smart home hub or two already running, as I do. That made the hub features less of a selling point for me but it's nice to have that option. Unlike Show, there are no skills that must be enabled. The Hub handles pretty any request you can think of, within reason. This is more convenient than having to activate individual skills but means some functions, like a daily news briefing, are much more bare bones on the Hub. Alexa lets you choose from a large variety of new sources, and weather. The Hub only has a couple, like CNN and Reuters. Fox News fans need to stick to the Amazon family I guess. Overall, the Hub is a good basic device that might be just the ticket for those who don't have the space for a Amazon Show or don't need all the extra bells and whistles it provides.

Probably nice but fails at what I want
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this just to use as an always on viewing device for my Nest doorbell. In that aspect, it fails, because the app crashes and I often find the device just acting as a clock or displaying an error. In addition, there is no actual way to turn the device off documented, so if I want to move it from room to room, I have to unplug it without shutting it off.

Posted .Hi Charles, thanks for the review, and we’re sorry to learn about your issues with your Nest Hub.
Nest Hub has no power button or switch, and if you need your Nest Hub to be completely off, you can simply unplug it. If you can’t stream your Nest Hello using your Nest Hub, it’s important to make sure that this is not caused by a spotty connection or weak signal. We recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. If you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network, removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion.
We also suggest trying these simple steps below that may improve you experience:
- Check the distance between the Nest Hub and your router. Ensure that it is within a line of sight from your router.
- Check for wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or appliances and devices nearby.
- Restart Nest Hub and router to refresh the connection.
- If unresolved, perform a factory reset on your Nest Hub with the step by step guide here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7073477

A great companion to Google Photos
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nifty little device that has a lot to offer if you’re setting up a smart home or just looking for an affordable voice-controlled speaker. I have an Amazon Echo Dot and it works just fine, but I do think the voice recognition on this is far superior and being able to use Google’s search engine to simply ask the device a question from across the room is really quite useful. The device itself is smaller than it appears in images, so don’t expect miracles from the speaker but it’s more than fine for casual listening and it gets plenty loud. I like the sound of it. Having easy access to YouTube, recipes, weather, etc. is all great. I don’t have any smart lights bulbs or thermostats, so I can’t offer an opinion on that front. But I think if you use Google Photos to store your photos (and you should, it’s free and unlimited and organizes everything for you with zero effort on your part) then owning one of these makes so much sense. We all take a zillion cell phone photos and rarely ever look at them again. But with this you will and it’s fantastic. The screen is sharp and bright and turns on and off automatically when there’s light in the room. My only complaint is that I wish they made one twice the size of this! I’d totally buy it. There are things Google can improve and they’re all software related, so hopefully they’ll push some updates to this little guy soon enough. For starters, they call the automatic slideshow “ambient mode.” I understand why, but it’s silly and when you’re digging through the settings trying to figure out how to change which albums are in the slideshow it can be frustrating to try and remember that they call it something different than the entire rest of the English-speaking world. Also, no videos in slideshow mode. That’s a bummer, but seems like it could easily be implemented. And speaking of video, I can not for the life of me figure out how to turn off auto-play when viewing things from YouTube. So every time my daughter asks Google to play a certain video, as soon as that one ends it goes straight to the same video that none of us even asked for and has been that way for weeks. I’ve looked in all the settings. No luck. So there are some annoyances, but the good outweighs the bad. The promise of this device to only get better is very bright and at $150 it’s priced extremely fairly. I’m sure it will go on sale for the holidays, too.

Google UI and management are just poor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The user interface both on the phone app and computer are far to convoluted. Nothing is intuitive. Adding devices or simply setting a calling whether it is from DUO, Google Voice, etc. does not work at all. The procedures to relax voice recognition are non existent. Oh and for it all to work you have to sign the rights away for your data! I took back every device for my mother in-law and switched her to Alexa products.

TRASH, save your money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item is supposed to be compatible with my smart lock and Sonos speakers. However not only would it not recognize my speakers (annoying but not critical) BUT it kept unlocking the lock for my front door without my permission. The screen said “lock off line” when I tried to open the door but two hours later kept unlocking it on its own. That is frightening.
