Just plug it in and go. Took longer to wait for Brighthouse to greenlight it than it did to "set it up".

Modem would not stay connect and kept dropping. Had 3 service calls to my home to repair and nothing worked. Will be returning for a Surfboard. Also the device would not allow my router to connect. Do not buy. Also spoke to NetGear and they do not have fix for this issue. They say they have to send out a new CM400 with enhanced features. Do not even waste your time.

Modem worked for approximately 1 hour, then it would no longer establish connection to the internet. Spent several hours on tech support with cable provider, and they even came to the house. After troubleshooting, it's been confirmed that I have a defective modem. I'm taking it back and getting a Motorola surfboard or a Zoom.

    Product is not good

I bought Netgear CM400 model on Thanksgiving day and installed on 12/01 it did not work. Continuous trouble shooting with Netgear 1st level support, 2nd level and supervisor, there is defect with this product alone, so I have returned the product and took a new one of the same model and installed on 12/04 it worked for 10 days then it started the issue. After call with the Netgear 1st level support, 2nd level and supervisor came to know that there is defect in hardware for the model itself which they have fixed and available only in their warehouse, and not have been distributed to the retail units. If the product is bought across any retail units still it may have issues.

End of life warning after 3 months

Good priced modem. Unfortunately, mine was defective and gave my internet provider an end of life warning. Since it was after Best Buy's return policy I had to go through Netgear. All they tri d to do was sell me an extended warranty. They acknowledged it was covered but couldn't help me bc it was after 90 days (95 to be exact) unless I bought a new warranty. So needless to say I will stick to linksys and rethink my bestbuy membership since they were of no help as well.

Works but kind of slow for the price. I wound up exchanging for the Netgear with more upstream channels

    would not hold a connection

Would not hold a connection. I was on the phone with Comcast 6 separate times the modem would not hold a connection for more then 5 minutes before it would show as "offline" I called net gear tech support and after an hour of trying different things they said my provider must not have uploaded my configuration right and I needed to call them. Called comcast two more times then called net gear AGAIN to no avail... it will not hold a connection. I haven't shipped back the rented modem yet so later tonight I plan to reconnect it and return the net gear modem to best buy.

    Disconnects - not working

    Posted .

I called Time Warner with MAC address and modem seemed to work fine for a couple hours. Then it disconnected. Now it disconnects 100% of the time after about 40-60 seconds. Wasted 1 hour with Time Warner who came to the conclusion it is a bad Modem. Netgear is aware of problems with this modem but all they can do is ship one in 3-4 days. Can't work without internet for so long so returning at BestBuy. Not sure if I am crazy enough to try another CM400 or spend more to get the Motorola Arris 6183... which BestBuy did not have in stock when I bought the CM400

    Unreliable product

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product continually gave me frequent intermittent disconnections from the internet. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Netgear tech support and 1 hour with my internet provider trjying to resolve this problem. The final conclusion was that the modem is defective. Netgear offered to exchange it, but I have decided to go with a different brand.

Intermittent connection when connected directly to pc, but it soon failed altogether. Even after rebooting and disconnecting it from my pc. Called brighthouse again to make sure the their end was correct, but the modem still would not connect to my cable provider.

    Do not purchase

I bought this modem a little over a year ago and it died on me. I worked with Comcast to figure out if it was my router or something on their end. I hardwired directly into the modem and had download speeds of 2mbps. Connection kept dropping and coming back but with the same download speeds. Found out it was shot. Do not purchase. Spend an extra $20 for something that will last.

NETGEAR CM400 Packet Loss Comcast/Xfinity NO FIX

It has a major bug that cannot be fixed and there is no firmware update to fix it. Hackers disable your modem and you lose packets and connectivity to all websites.
