I was a little skeptical at first after using other WiFi extenders. I installed this one in my sons room and hard wired his gaming console to it. We were amazed at the increase of the speeds verses the standard WiFi my internet provider gives. Great product!!! I will be purchasing a second one for the garage.

I’ve had netgear extenders and routers before. The set ups for all of them are a pain. And for the price I just don’t know if it was worth it. I think there’s better ones on the market especially not but for the sake of what it’s suppose to do it does it and there’s very little issues . I do really like the amount of ports on it as I have a lot of gaming consoles and shared computers that we run out of space quick .

It really does extend range nicely and works 99% of the time. The problem is, now we routinely get kicked out of connections several times a day all throughout the house, even where signal strength was good before, which is fairly annoying and makes the device pretty much useless. I've tried all settings but no luck. BTW I have ATT Gigapower 1 GB fiber & router. Tried returning it to no avail and now have to claim a warranty event with Netgear, all pretty lame.

Not possible to setup only a 5G connection

Hint: If you're like me and are only interested in having the 5G connection on the extender go ahead and setup both the 2G and 5G anyway. You can't change the network name from your existing network name when connecting only the 5G and hence will only be able to connect to your existing network after setup. Read below. The app for me was completely useless so I connected with the desktop. The issue I was having was that it wouldn't let me change the network name from the existing WiFi network name, it just used the existing network name for the extender. When I tried connecting any of my devices, the network name would only appear once and it would be the existing network and not the extender. Because of this I couldn't connect to the extender to change the network name. The first 2 times I tried connecting via the app, I tried only connecting the 5G and not the 2.4G and it wouldn't connect. The first 2 times I tried connecting on the desktop, I also only tried connecting the 5G and was never given the option to change the network name hence it defaulted to the existing network name. On the 3rd try I decided to try connecting both the 2.4G and 5G thinking it would have to at least give the network name the addition of 2G and 5G but amazingly when connecting to both it gives you the option of going ahead and change the full network name before ever having to try to connect to the network. Would have been awesome if the developers at Netgear were smart enough to give you that option when only connecting one. As far as the connection goes, it's only decent. My iPad connects to the existing network from the same location as the extender with about 180MB/s but connected to the extender, it only gets about 80MB/s. It does at least give my desktop a better connection from only being about 5MB/s connected to the main network versus about 50MB/s through the extender but I still would have liked speeds at least over 100MB/s like on the iPad.

Supports Wi-Fi 6. Devices seamlessly roam to it. I have it setup with a R8000 router and a EX8000 Extender. Use ethernet for the back haul. Set up was relatively easy introducing it to my network. I have a smart home setup (53 Devices) and the R8000 router's smart connect function works well with this extender and the EX8000.
