Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem's performance, ease of use, and setup. Many appreciate its compatibility with various internet providers and its ability to provide a strong signal. While some find the price to be high, the positive feedback on speed and reliability outweighs this concern for most users. A few users reported experiencing issues with the modem itself, but these were less frequent than positive reviews.

This absolute piece of garbage modem bricked after about 3 months. Did some googling and found out this was a comment a common problem for this modem if it ever disconnected from ISP (which is guaranteed to happen at some point via a power outage or network issue in your area). I called tech support and their response was to send another one, which just puts the problem down the road again. They also never sent it. Never buying from Netgear again

I have no idea how to rate any modem. A Best Buy associate recommended it and a Best Buy tech installed it. It must be working OK or I would not have access to the internet.

    NetGear - Poor Customer Service

Unit lasted 1yr/4months. I noticed my connection was slowing down so I reset the unit. Normally, the power LED would come on solid and then it would go through it's bootup sequence. This time the power and all other LED's just started flashing rapidly - it didn't boot properly and wouldn't reset "Bricked". NetGear Tech supports first comment was that I should buy a 6 month support contract for $89.00. Then after they agreed it was a product failure, they told me to upload the proof of purchase and serial # on the website under the ticket # and they would send me a new unit. I called bac after I uploaded everything, sat on hold for 45mins only for them to say that they would not replace it because it was 4 months out of warranty. For their internal cost ($20), they could have kept me as a customer. I will no longer purchase or recommend NetGear products. I'm just going to rent the cable modem from XFinity.

Outstanding modem with crazy fast speeds

This modem is outperformed all of my expectations so far. Below are a few brief takeaways: - Setup: Not all devices are plug and play these days, so I was relieved to find that this device was super simple to set up. After plugging it in, the modem set up process took no longer than a few minutes and the Netgear software / UI made it very easy to navigate get the device online. - Speed: This replaces a standard modem provided by my cable provider (for a monthly cost of course - happy to be rid of that!). The Nighthawk's performance so far has been superb. I've noticed higher peak speeds and lower latency for my network of devices. It truly does live up to the speed claims. Design: The device itself is pretty sleek and I was able to easily tuck it in a small nook near my cable connection. Frankly, it looks a lot more up to date than my prior modem! Cost: As mentioned earlier, this replaces my cable provider modem so you can amortize the cost over time. I'm happy I no longer need to rent a lower performing box from my cable provider. Overall, I am very pleased with this device and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an upgrade. Please note that I received this device free a charge in connection with the Netgear Friends and Family program. I hope this is helpful overview as you consider this product.

Bought this in Sept 2021. worked fine, minimal resets given multiple devices and my WFH all day usage. Unit crapped out 1.5 weeks after the 1 year warranty, no storms or electrical issues. I trusted Netgear to last and it did not. I could purchase tech support for between $90-$200 dollars but i bought a different brand to replace for about same money.

I had nothing but trouble with this modem. I had it 45 days and it crapped out on me. Tech support replaced it after about 3 phone calls and 4 hours of being on the phone. Got the replacement and the exact same thing happed with the replacement after 20 days. I now use it for target practice. Netgear is trash don’t waste your money!

    Expensive Brick

Expensive brick, worked for 28 days and then quit. NETGEAR tech support takes a long time (~somewhere around an hour to hour and a half including hold time) to help with diagnosis much less trying to speak with anyone. All lights flash constantly and will not reset, Best buy exchange is 15 days. NETGEAR suggested taking back for exchange.... OR paying to ship it back for replacement. Opted just to buy another modem since this was a replacement for a modem that stopped working. Since tech support takes so long, can't imagine how long it would take to get a replacement possible brick. No more NETGEAR for me, used to be good equipment. Doesn't seem so good anymore.......

Bought this to replace a different model Nighthawk that died in less than a year. Seems like a lot of people love these, so I took a chance on a higher end model. I haven’t even hit the 3 month mark and this one is toast. For the record, there is not a single gamer in the house, and we both have jobs so we aren’t even available to stream a lot. I even bought the Gearhead plan for Netgear “priority” support - DON’T DO IT. I just hit 3 1/2 hrs of phone time *just to get an RMA* for this dead modem. And no, I still don’t have the RMA. To be clear, the technicians agree that it is dead - they just need about a million tasks completed (including swapping out a “spare” AC adapter??? Who has a spare AC adapter lying around??). I know better and should have just gone with Geek Squad support.
