Pricier, But Worth it for Xfinity + Voice . . .

. . . Xfinity just upped my internet speed to 1+ GB, so it was time to upgrade my years old Netgear Modem that was only rated to 300MB. I have a Google Nest router so I didn't need an integrated router. Also have Xfinity voice, so I need those phone inputs. Yes, the CM2050 is expensive, but it works flawlessly with Xfinity. The key - and this is ESSENTIAL - is to download the Xfinity app. I plugged in the MAC address from the modem into the app, hit SEND and I was up and running in 10 minutes. Downloads are 900MB, upload 40MB. Very satisfied.

I purchased this Netgear Cable Modem on sale $50 off and compatible with my xfinity service. In the future I might need a faster 2Gigs of hi speed connections. So far so good!

So happy to return Xfinity’s equipment and replace with this and eero pro. I’m finally getting the high speeds I am paying for. It’s been six months and I haven’t had a single problem. The X1 modem/router was so unreliable. The new system is A++++

Had The Geek Squad replace the combination Modem / Router from Xfinity and saw an immediate improvement in performance and stability. Paired the Nighthawk with a mesh router and highest speed internet and I’m ready to cut the cord!

It works, but it’s not worth the hype or price. Speeds are fine when it feels like cooperating, but I’ve had random disconnects that require rebooting more often than I’d like for a $300 modem. Setup was straightforward, but stability hasn’t matched the premium price tag. It’s not trash, but it’s not the rock-solid upgrade I expected either. You’re mostly paying for the Nighthawk name and future-proofing with DOCSIS 3.1, but don’t expect miracles if your ISP is mid-tier or your signal isn’t perfect. Decent, but not impressive.

Used it to replace 4 yr old modem I thought may be causing dropped calls. Easy to install, and it solved the dropped call problem. I recommend it.

Needed to replace my ARRIS surfboard modem as it couldn't go above 650mbps. This modem is phenomenal, hasn't skipped a beat - activated easily with xfinity, and I haven't needed a single restart. Works really well with other Netgear products - especially Orbi as the router,

Stay Away if you want more than 50 Mbps Upstream

Avoid this modem if you want upload speeds beyond 50Mbps, currently it is not compatible (March 2025). We purchased this unit thinking the claimed 1G upstream meant it would be capable of faster uploads when Xfinity/Comcast made that available in our area. The faster uploads just recently became available in our area but the CM2050v is capped at 50Mbps (Comcast confirmed this to me). We found out the hard way after upgrading to the Gigabit X2 plan and spending hours trying to get the modem provisioned properly. The download speed is present, but our upload tops out at 42Mbps. It appears this was done on purpose by Comcast (after discovering a bug, the firmware was rolled back). This 'bug' has been worked on by both Comcast and Netgear for over a year (their own claims), and there has been no solution. It appears that the only other Voice equipped unit that can do the faster tier upstream is their own rental modem (which I would also avoid for a multitude of reasons, not just the rental fee). Best of luck !

This was the only option since I have a cable phone and I did not want a modem / router combination. Setup was very easy and this modem is much faster than my old one that was leased through the cable company. It is also saving me $14 a month in lease fees to the cable company.

Much better than Comcast modem/router, which regularly needed reset and caused streaming devices to often buffer. This modem consistently measures, using Ookla Speedtest, at 930Mbps on computer connected by ethernet cable. Now no devices experience buffering.

Replaced my old Arris modem that kept slowing down. This Netgear modem is rock solid. It hasn't had any issues with losing connection and consistently delivers over 1 Gb connection. Easy to set up and only took 10 minutes to get my Xfinity service back up and running.

    Great Modem approved by Comcast/Xfinity

This modem is one of the few approved by Comcast/Xfinity if you do not want to use their equipment and also have a landline. I like Netgear equipment in general so was happy it was one of the choices. It was easy to setup following the included instructions although you do need to download the Xfinity and Netgear apps on your smartphone. Performance is better than expected and I am now getting over 900mbs download speed over a cat 5e cable. I also purchased the Netgear Nighthawk AX5 AX4200 Router when I upgrade to this modem.

Now that I have the modem in place 2 month later it works great. However, it took a failed install by me, failed install by xfinity on line assistance, failed install by a tech at my house, and then reprogramming in the xfinity system so that i could finally install the modem 2 months later.

Very Happy with the CM2050V already can tell the speed when browsing the internet. had a little trouble setting up the new modem, needed help from Xfinity, had a little challenge removing the old modem off the system. Other wise very happy with my new modem.

It seems to be doing it job I’ll know once I upgrade my router to an WiFi 6 I still own a WiFi 5 router. My top speed is around 700- 800 mps download plugged in the MacBook Pro. I’m not seeing the 1GB download I’m paying for with Xfinity. When not plugged in my speed is about 220-300 mps download. I upgrade to this device bc I have a total of 21 devices on the network and my old modem Arris was outdated and wasn’t compatible anymore.
