"One Star" only because zero isn't an option.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my Linksys AC1900 quit working, I opted for this modem / router so that I could upgrade my modem at the same time as replacing my router. This POS is just that -- a POS. Wireless speeds are dismal ( less than 50 Mbps on 250 Mbps service ) and Ethernet works when it feels like it and usually results in needing to reboot or factory reset the device to correct temporarily. Firmware updates for this "paperweight" are non-existent. Unlike Linksys, you cannot download and install the latest firmware, Netgear "tech support" states that updates are pushed by the ISP but, my ISP says that they have no access to do that on a modem / router that is not provided by them and I need to contact the manufacturer for assistance with updating the firmware ( or I could lease a modem for $14. / month ). The only thing more pathetic than this garbage equipment is Netgear's support so, in the trash this goes and I will purchase a new Arris modem and Linksys router -- it will cost a little more but, it will work like it is supposed to and technical support is always top notch. Netgear should take a lesson ( or three ) from Linksys. I learned my lesson and won't waste another dime on anything Netgear is offering.

Good product terrible customer service.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product itself works great but it comes with the worst manufacturer of warranty & customer service I have ever encountered. My device suddenly stopped giving out a signal and I had to call my provider and then netgear. I was on phone with netgear with zero solutions offered for 75 mins and on top of that the agent hung up on me & never called back or emailed me solutions I could try myself. You know it’s bad when you find the provider more helpful.

Good router for most. Not for me.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me just start this by saying that this is probably a great router for most households, it just isn't working out for me. I have two issues with the router. First, I am unable to connect two (or more) Xbox Ones to play a Call of Duty title (most recently Black Ops III) at the same time. The connection is usually atrocious for one user and passable for the other(s) and connectivity can switch users at any time. Though, If only one Xbox user is online, the connection is marvelous. I have yet to find a router that can reliably have a stable connection for two or more Xbox Ones playing the same title online. I have literally spent over a thousand dollars on network equipment with no luck. I work in IT in Enterprise networking, so I am no stranger to troubleshooting networks. I have probed dozens of forums and product reviews trying to find a device or solution to my problem, and have tried multiple router configurations (too many to list) to no avail. I’m beginning to think it is an impossibility to accomplish such a feat. My internet provider is Comcast, and I have very good download and upload speeds, so I know there shouldn’t be an issues there. The other gripe I have with the gateway is I’ve have lost internet connectivity, but the LED lights on the router did not give me any indication that the network was down. With most routers, when you lose connection to your service provider, the LEDs on the front of the router reflect that you don’t have connection with the internet. With this router, I’ve lost internet connection a few times and the LEDs on the front stay solid green indicating everything is fine, and when you log into the router the Cable Connection stated that Status = Good, but when I tried to ping any public IP address from the router, the ping failed. It wasn’t until I rebooted the router that the Download and Upload LEDs were not lit, indicating no network connectivity. Otherwise, for a normal household, I feel this router might be fine. WIFI seems to have a decent range and the wireless speeds seem okay (I prefer a wired connection with my devices) and I have no streaming issues with my phone or my PS4 when connected to wireless. The thing is, I also have a SBG6580 Gateway that I feel does just as good a job and is less than half the price of the Netgear C7000, so I can’t really recommend this unit… unless I figure out a way to run multiple Xbox Ones playing the same online game.

Remote reconfigure is not possible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It set up well on site. Once you go remote it blocks logins randomly. Earlier systems permitted remote fire wall adjustment this will not consistently allow it . Choose another brand.

Pile of junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this because went to a 400Mbps service and could only achieve 40mbps down...with a wired connection!! Non existent customer service unless you pay for a plan. Plugged my old Motorola 7550 in and got back to 300Mbps when it’s only rated at 250. Will return and ordered a bigger Motorola unit. Don’t waste your money or time

Can't maintain connection for more than 5 seconds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am astonished to be writing this, because of my good experience with Netgear in the past. When I got this home, I tested it by plugging it in as just a router (without connecting to my Spectrum cable). I connected to the 5G network which showed up, and began the registration process. Half-way through the screen, the connection failed. Repeated iterations of 'ping 192.168.0.1' and 'ipconfig' showed that the wireless network would connect, I would get an IP address, and then about 5-10 seconds later it would disconnect. I then tried it with a wired connection, using the network cable in the box, with identical results. This occurred over the period of an hour, because I could not believe my results. I assumed I had a lemon unit, so I returned to Best Buy and swapped it for another, with identical results on both wired and wireless connections. I didn't get the first unit's serial number, but the second unit's serial number is 4TU40978A56CF. This is ridiculous! Netgear makes great products, but two lemons in a row, which can't maintain any kind of connection for more than 5 seconds, is unbelievable to me, but it's true.

TERRIBLE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I researched everywhere to select our modem and router and found most seemed to think Netgear was top of the line. Having a large family with a LOT of mobile devices, I decided it would be worth the splurge to invest in good equipment. However, our modem has never worked and I have spent no less than 100 hours on the phone with the company trying to get my money back and have gotten NOWHERE. Plenty of people have said that I will get a refund as well as an email confirming it all and yet... NOTHING. I'm forced to call in everyday and wait on hold until I get to someone who says the exact same thing. AND yet, NOTHING. I have been BEYOND disappointed with Netgear- their service, products, ease of installation- EVERYTHING has been an absolute nightmare. I am not one to ever give reviews, but I have actually been in tears so many times while dealing with Netgear that I thought it important to let everyone else know what I've gone through in the hopes that it might save them from the same terrible fate.

It Will Work OK For A Combo Device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Firmware dependent on ISP. Device is stable, no issues. Range is somewhat limited, I suggest a Netgear EX7300 to go with it.

Bad Firmware for Xfinity and gets hot
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please check the netgear forums before purchasing. The C7000 Nighthawk has hundreds of complaints for dropped connections going back a couple of years. The ISP controls the firmware that may be causing the dropped issue but hasn't updated it for quite sometime. Netgear is deaf to all complaints about it as well. I bought mine in September of 2016 and had a good run until about 2 months ago (out of the 90 day warranty). Then random dropped connections multiple times per day. I had Comcast come out and check the lines and they are all good. The signal from their end shows good. The way the modem or router functions with buffering seems to be the issue. This is real expensive to only have it konk out a couple of months out of warranty. Buyer beware and check the netgear forums. It also gets crazy hot, so have a fan dedicated to the router.

Save your Money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After having two of these I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Spend almost 6 months troubleshooting with netgear and TWC and both keep pointing at each other netgear customer support is terrible all they keep saying was please send us the log and make sure you got the latest firmware. Internet would stop working for 5 minutes and I have to reboot the router constantly to get it to work . I replaced this junk with a Surfboard S6183 and ASUS AC1750 and all my problems were gone.

Router hardware fails repeatedly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have now owned 3 of these router/modems within the last two years, one of which was a factory replacement. All have failed within 6 months, starting with the 2.4 GHz wireless band and then expanding to the rest of the modem. Netgear's 90 day service policy is a joke, and unless you are prepared to spend $50+ for technical support, you get no help from them. What was supposed to be a cost saving move has failed and I'm back to renting a modem/router from my service provider. I've had many good Netgear products in the past, but I won't go back to them now, and certainly not for this product.

Does not work with Smart Home Devices
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy Comcast set up. You still need to call and verify with Comcast so your browser certificates remain secure. Then go to command line (type cmd in start menu) and do a DNS flush, type ipconfig /flushdns in the black screen and any contention will be fixed as well as cache issues. ***You will need to set up 2 profiles with the admin account - one for each speed. 2.4 and 5.0 with unique passwords. Echo show will connect but TP-Link, Kasa, and early Echo will not. Nest cameras, smoke detectors, and thermostat were also easy to re-link up. I contacted Netgear Support and there does not seem to be a patch. Even if you disable security and select WPA over AES option you will be frustrated beyond belief. So in a nutshell for BASIC wifi it's great - concerning smart home device connection -it is a complete failure.

Modem does not meet the speeds advertised.
