    Bye, Bye Rented Wireless Gateway!

About 1.5 years ago, our cable/tv provider pushed their "Wireless Gateway" onto us and from the minute it was powered on...I hated it. However, at the time, we had their Triple Bundle and needed the telephony capability. Since then...we've cancelled everything but Internet and have switched to WiFi connected streaming devices and no landline. This placed the Wireless Gateway's major downfall under a microscope...horrendously poor WiFi signal speed and range. We have the 200Gbps BLAST! speed and through the directly wired computer next to the Gateway...we would get the full 200. WiFi about 8" from the Gateway was around 65Gbps (through speedtest.net). Half-way across the house (small home, about 1100 sq. ft, 45' length) it would drop to about 35Gbps and in the living room where we watch TV...AT BEST...I would get about 12Gbps, but during peak hours...closer to about 2.5 OR LESS. After some research, I confirmed my speculation that the Gateway is JUNK and decided rather than to take it up with our provider...to just buy my own instead and if it works...drop the rental unit. Enter the Netgear C7000 unit here. I opened the box and in about 15 minutes it was installed (super easy) and I am now getting buffer free streaming with crystal clear image quality on demand and against using speedtest.net....I am getting about 215Gbps about 8" away and a minimum of 183Gbps all the way across the house ...and down in the basement where I have a laptop set up. This is on the 5G wireless band. On the 2.4G signal, the speeds are less impressive....somewhere between 80 and 60Gbps throughout the home...which is still a DRASTIC improvement and completely workable for my needs. Needless to say...I am happy with my purchase and more importantly...my wife is no longer giving me the side-eye about our decision to cut our Cable service and threatening to put us back ON to a cable subscription. As far as I'm concerned...the return on investment for this product is under 2 months if I consider the cost of monthly Cable TV service from our provider. I win. The "Wireless Gateway" is a big, fat LOSER. I can't wait to return it and take 10 bucks per month back into my pocket.

I had this router for years before switching to a mesh system and loved it. For the price, you really can’t beat the quality of coverage and device capability. In our two story house we never had any signal loss or connectivity issues and had anywhere from 10-15 devices attached to our network the majority of the time. The app and web interface were simple enough without being too techy. A solid purchase to meet most people’s home networking needs.

I work from home and the comcast router i was using kept on disconnecting my calls even saying the internet was not available. While this was pricey, it has been worth it. So far no issues with the internet going in and out and it was messing up daily with the comcast router. I am happy with this purchase and set up was a breeze.

I'm a Comcast customer who has been renting their cable modem router for many years. I cannot remember how much money I have spent on the rental...but no more. Since installing NETGEAR C7000 modem router, I have cut the monthly fee. Installation was a breeze, and I was able to get it up and running in no time. I did a speed test, and I was getting a better performance than the Comcast equipment. All in all, I am happy with NETGEAR, and I want to thank them for giving one to me to review as part of their Friends and Family program.

This has saved me from internet hell. My last modem router combo was getting 100 mbps if I was using an Ethernet cable but was only emitting around 5-7 mbps through the router. I am now getting 200 mbps, so for the first time in my life I am getting the speed that I am actually paying for! I am super happy and it's nice to have the Netgear app to manage the modem.

I get good range and speed from this router, but it does drop the connection sometimes, especially after the computers have been on and idle for several hours.

I had a time warner or spectrum modem and it didn't do right by me. I got a stronger modem/router by netgear (nighhawk w/ triband) and it was better! not good enough when i was outside my back porch, there was some wireless connection issues. This Netgear product is the bees knees, the modem/router stays in a corner of the house. home i live in is a one story-1008 sq. ft. lot and i get perfect connectivity outside!

I decided renting a cable modem from Comcast was not a good use of my money so I picked this up about a month ago. Setup was truly easy: swapping hardware to activating online took less than 30 minutes, and it's been working flawlessly since. I didn't realize what a bottleneck the Comcast wireless was until I saw the wifi speeds on this device, very impressive.

    Great wifi router/modem

This router/modem does the job. I wanted a wifi router/modem that would have a strong enough signal at the other end of the house and in the garage. We have a lot of devices connected to it through wifi an haven't had any problems at all. I always had to reset my old modem that my provider had. This one I haven't touched since the first day I turned it on, and I have great signal anywhere in our house an the garage. Great product!

    Excellent Performance & Reception

Configure this Modem as access point to run in tandem with a router or in bridge mode if you want to just use a router. I tried both and in tandem is the way to go. I have a Nighthawk RC6700v2 Router which is top notch and this Nighthawk AC1900 has stronger wifi signal than the excellent Nighthawk Router. Running in tandem I now have 4 primary AP's with SSID broadcast disabled with MAC authentication and 4 secured Guest AP's that broadcast. I connected and saved to all eight AP's with my Android smartphone and enabled "smart switch" to connect to the strongest signal. I now have wifi connection that is roughly an acre surrounding my house. Works with all apple and android devices. Works with my Nest thermostat and security cameras and alarm systems flawlessly. I just switched to Xfinity and pay for 55 mbps down and 5mbps up. I'm averaging 65+ mbps down and 6.5+ upstreem, so yeah, this modem pulls in the bnadwidth without issue. No phone jack, but doesn't matter since I have a cell phone and the four virtual phone numbers XfinityConnect gives you free. the internet/phone package is $10 cheaper than just the internet package. It has SIX internal antennas, hence the superior wifi signal over the Nighthawk Router. If you get this modem alone, you really don't need a router to boost reception as I was getting a strong signal from all my neighbors houses.
