20 up 20 down
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router in store to replace my prevoius router while on the Xfinity network. It worked fantastic giving me the speeds and reliability I expected until I moved to Charter. Since connecting to charter where I should be getting 400 down and 20 up, I now only get 20 up and down. After calling tech support for netgear and changing the MTU value, speeds were consistent for a day then back to the 20 up and 20 down i have been getting. I called charter back this morning and am opting to pay for one of their routers because even though they are a piece at least I know I can get the reliability. I don't feel like staying on the phone for hours on end with netgear to try to continue troubleshooting this issue as its been going on for three weeks already. My lesson learned from this experience is this router is a piece and netgear is as well. I won't be buying a product from them ever again.

Not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Have gone through two of these systems. At first, super fast speeds no issues what so ever. After a year or two the 2ghz networks stops working or speeds are very slow less than 5gbs and im stuck with only the 5ghz frequnecy. The app is horrible. Ive tried every possible thing to fix the modem and nothing works. From going into the router settings to a full reset. This thing is not worth the headache. Im very surprised by all the good reviews.

Good, strong signal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. But does not have phone jack. If you have a digital phone, you can not plug it in. Upgrade to router with a phone jack.

No parental controls
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ONLY reason I purchased this router is for parental controls. I have been in contact with Netgear and BestBuy. Sadly THIS MODEL does not support the parental controls that it insinuates that it does. So frustrating! I'll now go rent the router from the cable company. If do not need parental controls, this is a good product.

TWC not working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this modem/router combo and tried to set it up w/ TWC. The agent said they have had issues with Netgear modem/routers, called netgear, was on the phone for 2 hours, nothing was resolved. I am sure this is a great router, but just couldn't get it to work with TWC. Returned and looking for a new option.

Don't buy it...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product has been hands down the most spectacular dissapointment and the most frustrating experience i have ever had with customer support. Wildly dissapointed and will never purchase another netgear product because of it. Purchased a netgear nighthawk c7000 modem/router in June. Unit worked well until October. Beginning October it started randomly dropping intermittantly. Through September it became more frequent. In November it was bordering on not usable. I contacted customer support and opened a ticket. It's been nearly 3 weeks and I still have yet to get anyone other than the people who don't know anything technical and are there to just screen your call on the phone. Multiple attempts have resulted in my getting my call redirected and left on hold waiting for about an hour before giving up and moving on with my day. The online support chat has gone back and forth to no avail with customer support attempting to troubleshoot and determine cause of failure. Per customer support direction I did a factory reset on the unit which caused it to completely fail and end up in an infinite boot/crash cycle, rendering the unit completely useless. Continued online correspondence (Not live. Support site internal email correspondance) while customer support continues to divert and avoid the fact that there is a complete hardware failure in the unit. Issue is still unresolved and this has been the worst customer support experience of my life. Will continue engaging support as long as it takes and continue copying this review to every forum possible to alert others to the abysmal support service, and inferior product.

Read before buying!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this device last May after searching high and low for a device. It worked great for 9 months. I came home yesterday to find the device not working. I called my internet provider and they said there were no outages. I called Netgear as you have a 1 year hardware warranty and every person said the device needed to be reconfigured, but I needed to pay money to fix it as I was out of the 90 day window of repairs. This was upsetting because the purpose of me purchasing the device was to save now I have to pay you to fix something that cost me over 200.00 and decided to stop working. I explain to them this had to be a hardware issue because when I unplugged and plugged back up the device all the lights were on and It did not respond to a reset button. I had to pay them for them to ultimately tell me what I said all along which. They did agree to refund me the fee I paid for technical support, but someone would need to call me to discuss before the returned it to my card. They sent me an email for me to order a replacement and to pay for shipping for the new device, well it doesn't end there. I went the rest of my day studying and low and behold they sent me another email for me to send a picture of the serial number even though this was something I verbally gave to them. So now I have to wait even longer to receive a replacement. This has been the worst process ever. Your warranty is only good if you pay additional money for them to tell you what you already no which is the device just went out. I am extremely upset because I watched and read many read views on various router modem before purchasing and now this. If you don't believe me call net gear and tell them your device is not working and you are out of your window. It's sad for you to market a warranty, yet the only way you are able to use it is if you pay more money. Now I have no internet and I have to call my phone company to change my phone plan so that I can use a hotspot.

Garbage Product, Horrible Suppory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item stinks and Netgear’s support is worse. I bought this last November and it recently started dropping my internet signal. After calling their support several times and getting nowhere I gave up. I replaced it with equipment from Cox and everything works just fine. When you call they want to be paid for troubleshooting even though the modem/ router is still under warranty. I couldn’t get a return code because I wouldn’t pay their fee so I am just going to replace it with a competitors modem and mesh system and not stress over it. Oh yeah, if you ever call them be prepared to get someone who can’t speak understandable English. On top of that you will be on speaker phone and subject to very loud background noise. Overall, a lousy product with even worse customer support.

Poor customer support, poor speed w/comcast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It never lived up to the hype, I can't get anywhere near the speed that I'm paying Comcast for, and I've wasted hours with Netgear tech support from another country that I have to rate below "poor." My unit is now sitting in the closet and I've had to pay for another cable modem from another manufacturer, but their product was blazing fast right out of the box, unlike this Netgear unit that didn't live up to the hype. Such a waste of my time and money.

Good product terrible customer service.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product itself works great but it comes with the worst manufacturer of warranty & customer service I have ever encountered. My device suddenly stopped giving out a signal and I had to call my provider and then netgear. I was on phone with netgear with zero solutions offered for 75 mins and on top of that the agent hung up on me & never called back or emailed me solutions I could try myself. You know it’s bad when you find the provider more helpful.

"One Star" only because zero isn't an option.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my Linksys AC1900 quit working, I opted for this modem / router so that I could upgrade my modem at the same time as replacing my router. This POS is just that -- a POS. Wireless speeds are dismal ( less than 50 Mbps on 250 Mbps service ) and Ethernet works when it feels like it and usually results in needing to reboot or factory reset the device to correct temporarily. Firmware updates for this "paperweight" are non-existent. Unlike Linksys, you cannot download and install the latest firmware, Netgear "tech support" states that updates are pushed by the ISP but, my ISP says that they have no access to do that on a modem / router that is not provided by them and I need to contact the manufacturer for assistance with updating the firmware ( or I could lease a modem for $14. / month ). The only thing more pathetic than this garbage equipment is Netgear's support so, in the trash this goes and I will purchase a new Arris modem and Linksys router -- it will cost a little more but, it will work like it is supposed to and technical support is always top notch. Netgear should take a lesson ( or three ) from Linksys. I learned my lesson and won't waste another dime on anything Netgear is offering.

Good router for most. Not for me.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me just start this by saying that this is probably a great router for most households, it just isn't working out for me. I have two issues with the router. First, I am unable to connect two (or more) Xbox Ones to play a Call of Duty title (most recently Black Ops III) at the same time. The connection is usually atrocious for one user and passable for the other(s) and connectivity can switch users at any time. Though, If only one Xbox user is online, the connection is marvelous. I have yet to find a router that can reliably have a stable connection for two or more Xbox Ones playing the same title online. I have literally spent over a thousand dollars on network equipment with no luck. I work in IT in Enterprise networking, so I am no stranger to troubleshooting networks. I have probed dozens of forums and product reviews trying to find a device or solution to my problem, and have tried multiple router configurations (too many to list) to no avail. I’m beginning to think it is an impossibility to accomplish such a feat. My internet provider is Comcast, and I have very good download and upload speeds, so I know there shouldn’t be an issues there. The other gripe I have with the gateway is I’ve have lost internet connectivity, but the LED lights on the router did not give me any indication that the network was down. With most routers, when you lose connection to your service provider, the LEDs on the front of the router reflect that you don’t have connection with the internet. With this router, I’ve lost internet connection a few times and the LEDs on the front stay solid green indicating everything is fine, and when you log into the router the Cable Connection stated that Status = Good, but when I tried to ping any public IP address from the router, the ping failed. It wasn’t until I rebooted the router that the Download and Upload LEDs were not lit, indicating no network connectivity. Otherwise, for a normal household, I feel this router might be fine. WIFI seems to have a decent range and the wireless speeds seem okay (I prefer a wired connection with my devices) and I have no streaming issues with my phone or my PS4 when connected to wireless. The thing is, I also have a SBG6580 Gateway that I feel does just as good a job and is less than half the price of the Netgear C7000, so I can’t really recommend this unit… unless I figure out a way to run multiple Xbox Ones playing the same online game.

Remote reconfigure is not possible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It set up well on site. Once you go remote it blocks logins randomly. Earlier systems permitted remote fire wall adjustment this will not consistently allow it . Choose another brand.
