Bought this because went to a 400Mbps service and could only achieve 40mbps down...with a wired connection!! Non existent customer service unless you pay for a plan. Plugged my old Motorola 7550 in and got back to 300Mbps when it’s only rated at 250. Will return and ordered a bigger Motorola unit. Don’t waste your money or time

Can't maintain connection for more than 5 seconds

I am astonished to be writing this, because of my good experience with Netgear in the past. When I got this home, I tested it by plugging it in as just a router (without connecting to my Spectrum cable). I connected to the 5G network which showed up, and began the registration process. Half-way through the screen, the connection failed. Repeated iterations of 'ping 192.168.0.1' and 'ipconfig' showed that the wireless network would connect, I would get an IP address, and then about 5-10 seconds later it would disconnect. I then tried it with a wired connection, using the network cable in the box, with identical results. This occurred over the period of an hour, because I could not believe my results. I assumed I had a lemon unit, so I returned to Best Buy and swapped it for another, with identical results on both wired and wireless connections. I didn't get the first unit's serial number, but the second unit's serial number is 4TU40978A56CF. This is ridiculous! Netgear makes great products, but two lemons in a row, which can't maintain any kind of connection for more than 5 seconds, is unbelievable to me, but it's true.

    TERRIBLE

I researched everywhere to select our modem and router and found most seemed to think Netgear was top of the line. Having a large family with a LOT of mobile devices, I decided it would be worth the splurge to invest in good equipment. However, our modem has never worked and I have spent no less than 100 hours on the phone with the company trying to get my money back and have gotten NOWHERE. Plenty of people have said that I will get a refund as well as an email confirming it all and yet... NOTHING. I'm forced to call in everyday and wait on hold until I get to someone who says the exact same thing. AND yet, NOTHING. I have been BEYOND disappointed with Netgear- their service, products, ease of installation- EVERYTHING has been an absolute nightmare. I am not one to ever give reviews, but I have actually been in tears so many times while dealing with Netgear that I thought it important to let everyone else know what I've gone through in the hopes that it might save them from the same terrible fate.

It Will Work OK For A Combo Device

Firmware dependent on ISP. Device is stable, no issues. Range is somewhat limited, I suggest a Netgear EX7300 to go with it.

I have used this product with my Xfinity services since 2016 and it has worked flawlessly during this time. I am a true believer in the Netgear products because of this.

Bad Firmware for Xfinity and gets hot

Please check the netgear forums before purchasing. The C7000 Nighthawk has hundreds of complaints for dropped connections going back a couple of years. The ISP controls the firmware that may be causing the dropped issue but hasn't updated it for quite sometime. Netgear is deaf to all complaints about it as well. I bought mine in September of 2016 and had a good run until about 2 months ago (out of the 90 day warranty). Then random dropped connections multiple times per day. I had Comcast come out and check the lines and they are all good. The signal from their end shows good. The way the modem or router functions with buffering seems to be the issue. This is real expensive to only have it konk out a couple of months out of warranty. Buyer beware and check the netgear forums. It also gets crazy hot, so have a fan dedicated to the router.

After having two of these I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Spend almost 6 months troubleshooting with netgear and TWC and both keep pointing at each other netgear customer support is terrible all they keep saying was please send us the log and make sure you got the latest firmware. Internet would stop working for 5 minutes and I have to reboot the router constantly to get it to work . I replaced this junk with a Surfboard S6183 and ASUS AC1750 and all my problems were gone.

    Router hardware fails repeatedly

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have now owned 3 of these router/modems within the last two years, one of which was a factory replacement. All have failed within 6 months, starting with the 2.4 GHz wireless band and then expanding to the rest of the modem. Netgear's 90 day service policy is a joke, and unless you are prepared to spend $50+ for technical support, you get no help from them. What was supposed to be a cost saving move has failed and I'm back to renting a modem/router from my service provider. I've had many good Netgear products in the past, but I won't go back to them now, and certainly not for this product.

Does not work with Smart Home Devices

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Easy Comcast set up. You still need to call and verify with Comcast so your browser certificates remain secure. Then go to command line (type cmd in start menu) and do a DNS flush, type ipconfig /flushdns in the black screen and any contention will be fixed as well as cache issues. ***You will need to set up 2 profiles with the admin account - one for each speed. 2.4 and 5.0 with unique passwords. Echo show will connect but TP-Link, Kasa, and early Echo will not. Nest cameras, smoke detectors, and thermostat were also easy to re-link up. I contacted Netgear Support and there does not seem to be a patch. Even if you disable security and select WPA over AES option you will be frustrated beyond belief. So in a nutshell for BASIC wifi it's great - concerning smart home device connection -it is a complete failure.

Many people are having speed problems with the NETGEAR cable modems. The current firmware does not allow the modem to function as advertised. Cap's bandwidth and cannot prioritize w/o QoS

Netgear for years doesn't accommodate to the desktop gamer. Again, they have let me down. With all their modems, it is either a latency issue or a bandwidth cap. I've used Arris for years, pay for 150 mbps and receive 240mbps with boost from provider. I install this modem and start to play a usual game, for years i've played --yes it is modern as well, and noticed poor registration -conducted a typical speed test --not completely accurate but noticed it capped the desktop LAN bandwidth to 60mbps... out of 150mbps. I'm done with Netgear.

    Stopped working after 1 year

I regret going with this Netgear device. The wifi speed is so slow and the wifi functionality stopped working right after the warranty expired, I had to reboot this piece of junk a few times per week. I switched to TP Link XE75 mesh system and the same internet connection that I have went from 200mbps to 800mbps and no more reboots. If you want piece of mind and use the bandwidth that you are paying for completely DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!!

No longer allows wired connections after 3 months

This device worked great til about a week ago. It no longer allows wired connections. Wifi only. Also as an added bounus, I am no longer able to access the router itself. Do your self a favor and go with a different brand. Net Gear requires 90 dollars just to speak with me and that does not promise to solve the problem. Also, good luck trying to find any support pages for this router as it apparently doesn't exist.

DO NOT BUY IF LOOKING FOR REMOTE ACCESS

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this Netgear cable modem router that contains access to the Nighthawk app listed on its product sheet. THIS HAS NEVER WORKED. Everytime I try, it says my firmware needs to be updated. This is a problem. Netgear says they don’t do it, your ISP does. Spectrum says they can’t update what they don’t have and they’ve updated the most current version they’ve been provided. Seems like Netgear can’t seem to get their products to work the way they’re supposed to. Waste of money.

    Horrible

The app Nighthawk that goes with this is the worst! Said I needed to update my firmware, then the link it sent had no options for updating anything. I finally found out that apparently I have the latest version, but can't use the app because any time I open the app it forces me to the "firmware needs updated" page! And when I call Netgear, they blame Spectrum, and when I call Spectrum, they laugh at me and blame Netgear. Freaking hate them both!!!

Apparently, BB is selling used/stolen products as new. I bought the router at the store. I spent an entire day trying to active it with the internet company. Apparently, It had a previous owner. I got it brand new with packaging, wraps, and instructions. The Internet company asked if I had bought it used, off the street, or if it was stolen goods. Be aware that this may happen even if bought new at the store. We exchanged it and the clerk said that it is rare, but that it happens.
