I have been an avid NetGear network device fan for many decades. Unfortunately, I have been let down by this AC2300/R7000P router. I have spent close to 24 hours (real time) trying to get this thing to work, and have now given up. I have found the latest firmware to be very buggy, and below the standards NetGear had previously set. First, the “easy” setup using the Nighthawk app for Android and/or iOS was anything but easy. Both apps failed for me (yes, I have an Android phone and 6th gen iPad). I had to eventually set up this device using the web interface. I should have known how much trouble I would be in for after this. Next, after initial setup had been done, I had ensured that not only was the router protected by WPA2-PSK [AES] passwords (2.4GHz & 5GHz) radios, I also ensured the router was protected by the MAC address access list, as I have done with all previous routers. Unfortunately, I found this part of the firmware very buggy, and prevented my various Windows computers from communicating with one another; the local DNS lookup was not working correctly (I could not ping one machine from another, as it could not be resolved). This was very intermittent, and very frustrating. Turning off the access list would resolve local DNS resolution for some time. When editing the access list, I also found more bugs. If I edited one entry, the information pulled into the editing windows might come from the item above or below that particular entry. For example, the device name or MAC address would be wrong. Thankfully, when saving, it would go to the correct entry. I can only wonder if the corruption/bugs I was seeing was causing half of the problems I was having with the computers resolving the DNS information. Finally, I was having IP drops on my phone and iPad consistently. This was totally unacceptable and I never had the issue with my prior NetGear router (WNDR4000 / N750). I will be returning this router back to the BestBuy store I bought it from. Given how long this router has been on the market, I am absolutely dumbstruck it still has so many bugs/issues. I would not only NOT recommend this router, I would actively recommend it not be purchased.

It was a bit complex upgrading from an old version

Complete junk. Like most others, it was great out of the box, then becomes useless. We had 1gig speeds initially and now we cap out around 250mbps. There is no onboard parental controls, they must be downloaded and is another subscription. The “Armor” they push on you for protection is another subscription and will brick the unit. Netgear has known about the trouble with this router from early on and will not fix it. AVOID! RUN AWAY!

Wifi is great. With a 3500 square foot home. Very ideal.

I actually returned the product. The interface was very limiting and I guess I missed the option to install custom FW from Asus routers. Don't get me wrong it might be a good product but at least was not for me.

This router solved my problems of slow speed and range.
