Requires a Re-Setup with Power Loss

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get this router but was surprised that any power loss to the unit requires you to have to setup all configurations again, even naming your network and setting passwords which leaves it exposed. Best Buy only has a 2 week return on this. I’ve hooked up my old router and guess this one will be a paper weight unfortunately.

Don't Buy

Second Netgear product in 3 years that I've bought, should have known better... last one was trash too. Nighthawk app is trash, cannot even find its own router. Setup hits a wall, multiple reset, tech support can't even get it to work. THEY are awesome, but the product is just garbage.

Not worth the headache

My old AC1700 router did a much better job at handling my homes network than this thing. It constantly drops the signal on wireless devices regardless of how close or far you are. It needs to be restarted about 2 times a week. Ive spoken to Netgear and DumaOS mods on their forums and they are aware of the problems but still refuse to fix it in a timely manner. Their solution is to disable a lot of the new features the router provides for it to be stable. Only reason i give it a 2 star is because when it comes to it being on hard wired network, its flawless. Ive noticed a huge improvement to my games with minimal packet loss. Its wireless capabilities though stink. Slow interface, dropped signals, forced restarts because someone hurt its feelings, i wouldnt recommend this router, for now, it seems to all be a Firmware issue.

I have a 1500sq ft home and the signal was horrible, the wireless speeds were fast at first and slowly got worst as time went on. I returned the XR500 for this newer model and that was a big mistake. Best Buy didnt have any XR500 into stock, so I ended up going with a Asus RT86U gaming router and been happy ever since.

not compatibel with Nord VPN

However, I needed one that is compatible with the Norton VPN. I was told that this one was perfect. In fact it was not compatible and we had to return it.
