Great WiFi Without Smart Connect Turned On

Tried this against the EAX8 for extending my AT&T WiFi via ethernet. AP Mode is very easy on this (terrible on EAX8) and speeds are great (about 600/600 in 5G). I have had some issue with Smart Connection in combining 2.4 and 5, so I turned it off and run two networks. Disappointing, but certain phones just wouldn't stay connected when Smart Connect was on.

    Nighthawk AX 8

one router to rule them all, and this is true when it comes to this device. If you have any other brands of WI-FI you will find that they are not compatible with this device. And if you have the Nighthawk Gaming Router, the two will argue over who is in charge. So what is there to do, try the Nighthawk WI-FI extender. Sure, but the broadband speed is not enough for real gaming. The extender is good enough for browsing the internet.

We moved in to a bigger house and for the past 4 years I had an ASUS with 0 issues but the range would not be good enough for a 2200sqft house. We bough the AX8 because it advertised a good range~2500sqft, AX tech and had overall good review plus it was on sale. The setup was painless (used Ethernet cable instead of app) and I was up an running within 20 minutes. It automatically updated to firmware to 1.0.1.62. We initially had no issues (but we only had 2 phones connected since we were still moving in) but now we are starting to see some disconnection with devices. PRO: -Really good range on both bands, especially the 5GH. -I have a 250mbps line with the ISP and I am getting that speed on wired/wireless (with the network test). -I am getting 28MB/Sec download speed on STEAM/ORIGIN which is double what I used to get. CONs (in order of severity): -I can't return this because I am traveling and will pass the 15 days mark...even though we really started to connect to the router last week. -My Roku, PS4, SmartTV are wired to the router and my Roku intermittently displays "Disconnected from LAN" then after few seconds " Connected to LAN". -Gamin PC, work laptop, phones are wireless and I noticed that my skype would disconnect and reconnect after few seconds (couple of times per day). Same thing with game chats like battle.net. You wont catch these disconnect on an app monitor because every time you do a speed test or ping it works fine. The nighthawk app is good for general checkup but not diagnosis. The disconnect are very annoying, so far it has not affected our work/entertainment badly but I dont want to see buffering or losing the connection during a meeting. Yes I tried the whole turning it off and back on, reset....etc bla bla -The UI is not amazing but it's not a big deal. I read somewhere that the 1.0.1.40 is better than the current firmware so I will try to downgrade and see if that resolves the issue. I have to live with this but I wouldn't recommend this product. TLDR; for $299-399 this product should not have these issues, skip this generation and maybe wait a bit to upgrade or look for another brand. Google AX8 diconnection issues... I hope Netgear will find a solution to the buggy firmware.

I bought this to replace my orbi WiFi mesh. You would ask why would I buy this router. WiFi 6 is the answer. It’s fast and coverage is just as good as my orbi WiFi mesh was. But with WiFi 6 and having all new iPhone 11 devices in my house I can confirm that my devices go for 3 days without charging and normal use. 5 out of 5 stars. Amazing product.

I haven't noticed any significant improvements with this router for my Wifi 6 devices. If this device had a couple more ethernet ports I would've given it one more star. I haven't had any issues with this product but don't think it's worth the price right now. The app is easy to use and shows all of the devices that are connected to your network.

I returned this after just a few days. Nothing wrong with it, except it gave me no incremental range or speed over my previous ASUS AC5300 router. Was expecting more from it. It was easy to set up and had good features but just didn’t seem to have that extra boost that I thought it should have.

I did a lot of studying before I purchased this router. This router is a beast! I can use up to 75 different devices at one time plus it has I6 the new WiFi field. You won’t have a update your router for years to come with this bad boy.. It super easy to setup with the app. I know the price is something but you pay for what you get for sure
