    • Band Technology: Dual (Refers to the number of frequency bands used to wirelessly transmit an internet signal. For example, dual-band devices may use one 2.4 and one 5 GHz band, while tri-band devices may use one 2.4 and two 5 GHz bands. Multiple bands also provide more flexibility for designating connected devices to specific band use.)
    • Ethernet Standard: 10/100/1000 (Each standard is a variation of the IEEE 802.3 set of computer networking technologies known as Ethernet. New versions evolved to include higher bandwidth, different physical media, and other new and improved features. Standards are often denoted by speeds (in Megabits per second). For example, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port transmits at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).)
    • Number of Antennas: 4
    • Frequency Band: 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz (Bands may be grouped into categories such as low- and high-band VHF (Very High Frequency), low- and high-band UHF (Ultra High Frequency), or certain frequency channels (measured in MHz or GHz). Generally, higher frequencies transmit information faster but have shorter range than lower frequencies.)
    • Wireless Networking Standard: Wi-Fi 6 (The wireless networking standard used by the device. Each iteration of the standard developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance corresponds to an existing IEEE 802.11 protocol; for example, standard 802.11ac (or AC) is termed Wi-Fi 5. Refers specifically to the standard the device is designed to use, but ultimately determines product interoperability and backward compatibility including previous versions.)
    • Wireless Standard: AX (The wireless networking protocol used by the device. Each iteration of the protocol is based on the 802.11 standard developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standards Association. • Number of 2.4Ghz Streams: 4 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. Because the 2.4 GHz band is used to transmit wireless signals to a wide variety of devices, there is often high amounts of traffic on that stream. But with multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 2.4 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a desktop computer, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that use more data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)
    • Number of 5.0Ghz Streams: 4 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. The 5.0 GHz band provides high speed, short-range data transmission and typically has less traffic than the 2.4 GHz band. With multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 5.0 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a streaming media player, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that need less data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)
    • Ethernet Switch: true (Connects multiple devices to expand the Local Area Network (LAN).)
  • Certifications Listings & Approvals
    • ENERGY STAR Certified: false (Devices carrying the ENERGY STAR service mark, such as computer products and peripherals, kitchen appliances, and other products, generally use 20% to 30% less energy than required by federal standards.)

Product Manuals

Q: Besides support for 802.11ax, how does this router compare to the Netgear Orbi (RBK50) AC3000 mesh router, which also appears to be designed for large homes and lots of devices?

A: Have not used these other routers. But I can say with confidence that this router has the best performance and coverage of any router that I have had before including the AC 3200. Our house is 3400 square feet and spread out. This router reaches every corner with mo difficulty. We have at least 20 devices connected to it concurrently including various streaming devices and heavily used laptops, desktops and smart phone. No lags or performance issues so far.

Q: Wouldn't you need a network card for the 802.11AX standard to take full advantage of this router? I have been looking for a 802.11 AX NIC for my laptop and have been unable to find any. Thanks in advance!

A: That's because there are no 802.11ax nics/wifi cards yet. The standard is still in draft form and will not be ratified until early 2019. Netgear is expected to issue a firmware update once the spec has been ratified.

Q: Do you need a separate modem with this router when service is provided by Comcast

A: Yes you would need separate modem with nighthawk ax8

Q: Would this router work in a small business environment with three wired DVR security camera systems, five wireless IP cameras (2x5Ghz, 3x2.4GHz), and various other business related connections. Currently using Netgear X8 with some lag in camera monitoring

A: The AC 2200 advertises 2.2 Gbps while the X8 supports up to 1.9Gbps. Will that 300 Mbps fix it or is it a difference in the cores or other details? The X8 is a dual core compared with the Quad Core. Yes, faster dual cores, but the AC2200 having 4 cores should be dedicating a core for traffic cop vs. shared core, etc. The X8 being a few years old, though with similar tech may be lagging in some areas of advertised compatibility. Since you have so much traffic going on and the variety of frequencies with the Ethernet, to really push the router I would try a VELOP with the AC2200. Especially the 2 cameras at 5Ghz. If they are located anywhere outside the room the router is at, the 5Ghz struggles behind a couple walls. If you can get a VELOP node close to them, that should offer dividends to get you past your lag. Yeah, cost of the Router plus VELOP - AC1300. You can only take it into consideration if the pain to stay the same is greater than the pain to change and possibly fix the lag. There is not guaranteeing or telling with any of these configurations and your specific setup.. Depending what type of cameras, their specific chipsets and how they integrate with the mesh. Ideally everything would be on one proven platform with compatible and tweaked hardware to integrate with the specific appliance. It's still a mish-mash for small business with this tech. I us IP cameras wireless and wired and there are a huge difference in all of them for advertised and actual throughput and performance. They all say one thing and do another. I would hate to say, but you really have to just try it out and if you don't like it, take it back. But that is almost what you have to do in this case. There is just no way unless you run into another user who has run an X8 with very similar setup to what you have and has tried the AC2200. ....Good Luck!

Q: Can this router be mounted to a wall? Does it have screwhead holes? Will this destroy the usefulness of the non-movable antennas? Current R7800, is mounted high on wall, behind a door, works extremely well there with all 4 antennas pointed up.

A: Yes there are 2 screwheads to be able to mount to a wall (pic provided) I dont think the positioning of the fixed antennas will compromise the usefulness. May look wierd but this router does look like a spaceship straight out of Star Wars.

Q: What is the total height with the antenna attached??

A: 6 inches tall. 10.5 inches wide at the widest.

Q: Nighthawk AX6000 AX8, recommended 5 port switch.

A: I did see a huge improvement. With 11 different Echo Show Alexa devices 4 plugs, 2 lights, 2 TVs, 1 XBOX X, 2 Audio Recivers, 1 door bell with 2 ringers, 1 garage door opener, 1 door opener, 2 tablets, 2 phones, 4 TV streaming boxes. Over using the Spectrum Router
