Great Fast Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had many consumer grade routers trying to find the one I can settle with. I used all previous routers as wireless access points connecting to my pfSense router because they just couldn't do everything I needed well enough. This router is different. The AX6000 can handle everything. This router does everything very well, its extremely fast, has a high contrast GUI that's easy to use, and has Zero bufferbloat. I have a 1GB up and down connection and the AX6000 delivers all of the bandwidth all the time. It works well with my Roku and nvidia shield TV and all my wireless devices and at the same time. I don't have to worry about antenna position either or antennas breaking off because of this new antenna design that works very well. For me the qualifications for a great wireless router have to be speed, range, no disconnects and very low buffer bloat. The AX6000 is the best router I have had.

Solid router and great performance
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am providing feedback based on 3+ months real world use of this product. Pros: 1) Awesome design 2) New Netgear GUI for setup and configuration - very easy to use and fast. I had the router setup in < 5 mins 3) Performance is decent out of the box - I expect with future firmware updates, this performance will improve more. Also performance will be better once you have matching AX clients connecting to the router 4) No wi-fi drops 5) Can handle 20 streaming clients without any issues 7) No buffering or stuttering when streaming wireless or wired 8) No dead spots in a 3500 sq feet home and coverage (3 bars) 30ft outside of house 9) Can create a single SSID which can handle both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz clients seamlessly 10) No issues connecting legacy AC wireless devices (Android and iOS) 11) No issue with VPN 12) Gigabit fiber speed test is 940mb/s up and down with a 2ms ping to testing server Cons: 1) Price 2) You will need AX clients to really take advantage of this product. AX should be taking off in 2019+ 3) You will hear the fan when you first power up the router. Also make sure you upgrade to .36 of the firmware after you setup the router to make sure fan does not stay running under normal use 4) Would have liked to see 8 gigabit ports for this price point 5) Would like to see parental controls, anti-virus add-ons in the future Overall, I am very happy with the performance of this router (even on the first beta firmware). If you have a router that is more than 4 yrs old or have a household with lots of wireless devices, this router is a good choice. The price is a bit expensive, but the router is well built. I expect performance to get better as firmware starts to mature. I have used the router every day for 2 months and it has worked flawlessly. Have not found any wi-fi dead spots in the house. Video streaming, web surfing, gaming all work without any issues.

Great home coverage
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed something that would give me better coverage than my old DIR-850L. 1500sq/ft ranch, router downstairs. I would barely get 20-25mbps in my master bedroom bath, with buffering and drops. This AX-8 gives me up to 125Mbps with the same Moto G6 phone, no buffering, no drops. I do not yet have any AX clients so I have that feature turned off, but my AC and N clients report full speeds anywhere in the house, and a few houses to either side. Not bad for a router in a basement with concrete walls all around. It has the address reservation and MAC filtering that I like, and QoS works. My Spectrum 200Mbps service overprovisions to about 210Mbps, but along with that comes a ton of bufferbloat. With QoS on that speed drops to about 185-195Mbps on the ethernet but no bufferbloat/packet loss so it is doing it's job. Was a bit pricey, but I needed a new router anyway and would have spent maybe $100 less for 3-5yo tech, this way I should be future proofed for the next 3-5 years. I seem to be getting streaming OK, my son reports no lag when playing fortnite or NHL19, and I just added a roku ultra box that holds connection easily so it is compatible and haven't noticed any lag on it either. So far so good, we'll see when I get more streaming devices because I plan on cutting the cord with Spectrum TV, just going to stream sling, hulu, etc. so since this router is rated to handle up to 6000Mbps I should have no problems streaming to multiple devices. Note: sometimes changing settings takes awhile, and I can't seem to keep my phones (all MOTO G6) recognized with the names that I assigned to them in the administration and security pages. They don't drop the connection, but they do revert to "unknown" in device name and description. Minor PITA that I hope they fix as well as adding some more options in the GUI, I've had less expensive routers with more features but right now as long as I get this strong signal I can live with it. Hopefully they keep developing features for it and not just let it stagnate, it costs too much to just be satisfied with simple features.

Beast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have this sitting on top of my rack in the middle of the house (approx1600sqft). Ever since i upgraded all wifi issues are non existent. I get full bar on 2.5/5 thru out the whole house. This admittedly was expensive but worth not having any issue what so ever thus far. Easy to set up to use off my provider modem and was easy to set up to for my upgraded Unifi system.

Slick design & awesome performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first experience in the world of Wifi 6 (802.11ax) and it looks promising for the future of cord cutters and online streaming. I threw everything I could at this RAX80, including a 4k wireless stream and multiple Youtube/YoutubeTV/Netflix wireless streams at the same time, and it didn't skip a beat. My videos remained clear without any pixelation or buffering. The range of this router is on par or slightly better than other AC routers I've tested; a testament to the innovative antenna design. Speaking of design, does this look like a Manta Ray to anyone else? I dig it. I was a little concerned about fan noise, but after initial power on, I haven't heard it. Initial setup was easy using the Nighthawk App. The step by step process was easy and includes steps like changing the default passwords and checking/updating firmware. More advanced setup was easily done through the simple web interface. This router has one of the fastest web GUI's I've seen - a benefit of the processor. The features found in this router are impressive: OFDMA, QoS with automatic speed test, 4x4 MIMO on each channel, DFS channels, 1 WAN + 5 LAN gigabit ports with aggregation. You get what you pay for! If you're a family or business with a large number of devices or looking for the ability to handle multiple streams simultaneously, the RAX80 is for you. I received this product for free from the Netgear First Look Review Program for my honest opinion.

Great feature set and incredible range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Netgear Nighthawk AX8 WiFi Router is packed with features and has the range to cover very large homes. This router is replacing an existing Linksys router (EA3500) and two Netgear access points (AC1200 – acting as an access point and the ProSafe WN203) in hopes of reducing the number of devices in our home network while increasing the reliability of our internet. Unpacking the device is what you would expect from a top line router as it was well packaged and easy to remove the contents from the box. The setup was a breeze as I disconnected the existing access points and replaced the existing router with this mean machine. The quick setup guide walks you through the simple setup process, along with installing optional software to make your experience even better. I installed the Netgear Genie application, which allows you to manage the majority of the features of the router. For a comprehensive list of advanced setup configuration options, you can log directly into the router itself using the provided credentials. Be sure to remember to change the administrative password, once you get started. The AX8 has all of the features you could hope for in a router. It comes with 2 wireless bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz), and the smart connect option allows the router to intelligently select the best WiFi band for each device that connects to it, ensuring you have the fastest connection at all times. The OFDMA increases your throughput capacity allowing data transmission from 8 separate devices concurrently. The router supports 160MHz channel to provide Gigabit speeds for mobile devices and laptops capable of supporting it. The AX8 is built for speed with a 64bit 1.8 GHz Quad-core processor and as with most routers of this caliber, the AX8 has a guest network option to allow guests an easy way to get connected without giving away your personal network credentials. The router comes with 6 Gigabit ethernet ports and 2 can be aggregated for faster LAN transfers and to enable Multi-Gig internet. It also possesses two USB ports to connect up external hard-drives and network printers. We hooked up a 4TB external hard-drive to one of the router USB ports and then enabled the ReadyCLOUD option which allows you to store and access the drive anywhere you have the internet. My dad immediately downloaded the readyCLOUD app on his iPhone and began to show us pictures he had saved to his hard drive directly from his phone. The AX8 comes with several security features as well. It allows you to grant/deny access by specific devices using their MAC addresses, block unsafe sites from being visited and block services. It also allows administrators to set a schedule for when the internet can be available, which is helpful if you want to limit the online time of children. Finally, it allows you to setup alerts and logs to be sent via email to stay informed about your network traffic. From the administration screen, administrators can manage attached devices, backup / restore router settings, update the router’s firmware, reset their admin password and more. The router is also capable of advanced setup like port forwarding, setting static routes, VPN service and remote management. Above all, the most impressive thing about this router is the speed and range. I did several speed tests at multiple locations throughout the large home this device was placed in and we saw as much as an 88% increase in speed in a few locations. With this router, the maximum download and upload speeds by our ISP were achieved in every room in the entire house! We were also able to successfully eliminate 2 additional access points in the house, minimizing the failure points if we should ever experience network challenges in the future. It is safe to say that this product far exceeded my expectations and the fact that it looks awesome is simply icing on the cake. I would definitely recommend this powerful router to anyone who needs coverage and speed across a large home or office. Although I received this product for free from the Netgear First Look Review Program, the content of my review contains my honest and unbiased opinion of this incredible product. The bottom line is…this thing rocks!

Great router - until the firmware update
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to have a future-proof router and a better quality one than the Linksys I had before. The router was easy to set up, and the Nighthawk app is nice. It just takes a while for things to load on the iOS app. The speeds are great with low latency. The theoretical speeds are over a gigabit on the iPhone 11, which has the AX standard. I had few problems connecting to the smart lights (LIFX) using HomeKit. Things changed once the late-May firmware update was released. I had issues connecting to the lamps with HomeKit, and signals were dropping on another iPhone (XS). I also noticed that the device listing was showing one of the smart lights and a FitBit being connected via Ethernet (what?). I messaged support, and one of the things they mentioned was to disable AX. But why did I spend all this money on a router if I can’t use AX? I reverted back to the previous firmware version until there is a new firmware update. Until a fix, I can not recommend this router.

Multiple 8K streams.Stylish.App is basic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first router, and one of few tech/geeky devices, that my wife is not offended with being visible out in the open of the living space. So far it seems to beat my former top-of-the-range original Nighthawk R7000. We have way too many connected devices. This one purports, by way of the back of the box, to handle MULTIPLE 8K streams. At least their graphic shows TWO 8K TVs out of dozens of depicted connected devices in a "Rings of Saturn" illustration. (see inset)

Great WIFI 6 router
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would’ve rated this router higher and said that it is excellent if it wasn’t for the fact that you have to pay a subscription for the NETGEAR armor security feature, which is an annual subscription. I do like the NETGEAR armor feature powered by bit defender as it notifies me every time a new device connects to my network. You get basic parental controls, but have to pay a subscription for the premium. This router overall is simple to setup from the app on your phone or can also set it up via the browser on your computer, which to access more advanced setup configuration you have login from computer. You can disable a device from connecting via the app on your smartphone, restart the router, access the parental controls, along with a few other features. It also provides great speed when I am on my iPhone 11. I get great coverage throughout my 2 story almost 2000 sq ft house.

One word - Incredible!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hi Everyone - there are alot of great reviews on this page that talk about the specs, what's in the box, etc - so I'll skip all that. What you really want to know is: Why do I need this WiFi Router? If you haven't already adapted a WiFi Mesh network, you may want to give this a try first. The 802.11ax standard is the next generation WiFi standard to allow multiple users, simultaneous streams to your precious internet bandwidth. That's really the selling point here - it's not the awesome looking design, it's not necessarily the 5 1GB ehternet ports on back - it's the ability to stream seamlessly to multiple devices - like TVs, media players, etc that make this device standard apart. Look at the graphic I provided courtesy of Qualcomm. Compare the differences between the 3 802.11ac clients on the graphs. Which one would you rather be? So, if you're in the market to upgrade your WiFi at your home - whether it's large or small, this router is more than capable to handle all your needs!

Great functionality, poor user interface
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The router itself performs excellently, great speeds and very reliable. Setup wasn't too difficult. The real area it is lacking is in the mobile app which you can use to access router functions. Just signing into this app at first was very difficult, as there were software issues which would not recognize the login credentials and then lock me out. Now that the app is working correctly, I have found it more useful, but there are still occasionally issues. I would still purchase again, but hope that Netgear stays on top of the software and makes improvements.

Excellent routing
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third router from Netgear and they just keep getting better. I used to rock the LinkSys and it was okay, but once I tried Netgear I haven't looked back. And by the way, the last modem still works great and I feel bad that it is in a box not helping anyone, but since my wife and I are both working from home and are using iPhone 11s (which use Wi-Fi 6) I just had to get this unit. The best thing was I just swapped them out and the AX8 gathered up all twenty-six network nodes and gave them their best setting (2.4 or 5 gig) and I was up and going. I did have a major scare though when it wouldn't give me "live views" of my Blink wireless cameras. It found them and assigned them, but would NOT give me a live view. I went online and some kind person said they had something similar happen and solved it with a modem/router reboot. Voila! I had an even better connection to my camera system. Whew! I thought maybe the more powerful wi-fi 6 had less range, but it is kicking. I had one other motivation for this purchase and that was to get Alexa to work in the backyard by the pool. Other reviews touted the coverage of this unit and I can't wait to try it out. My Netgear 2400 didn't stay connected well enough to make it work for us last summer. Anyway the other reviewers gave some great pics that inspired me to completely rework my cable management when I installed this baby and that was a big fringe benefit. With this cool looking unit out in the open it makes having an on/off button for the LEDs invaluable. I love the light show, but not when I am trying to sleep. Very thoughtful touches and great performance from a sleek unit. Thanks Netgear!

Wifi Signal Is Very Strong With A Hitch
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup for this router is relatively quick. Within minutes of using the NightHawk app, I was up and running. The app is simple to use, but I wish the app all the same capabilities that using a computer is able to see in the router configuration. The Wifi signal for this router is excellent. You can go pretty far, about 30+ yards for the 2.4 GHz before the signal cuts out. As for the 5 GHz, I have no problem losing this connection in the house. Sure, my house is about 2400 sq. ft. and single story so the 5 GHz is available throughout the entire home. My only complaint, and the reason for 4/5 stars, about this router is the Smart Feature, where you allow the router to decide which signal, 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz is assigned to the connected devices. The Smart Feature works for about 70 percent of my 20 connected devices however those 30 percent devices are important that they have 5Ghz since I use them very often, like my Wifi 6 Smart Phones. Not only that, the Smart Feature causes a few of my devices to constantly change from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz, which then causes connection delays when browsing or using the internet. After setting the Smart Feature off, where 2.4 and 5 GHz have their own SSID, my devices are connected very strongly without any hickups. I strongly urge Netgear to improve their software to set the correct connections to their devices when the the Smart Feature is enabled. A few more features I'd like to have in this router is more Firewall adjustments, other than NAT Filtering, and Guest Network Speed limitations rather than QOS only limitations. Other than that, this router does what it's designed for when the settings are set appropriately, which is having a strong signal without dropping any of the connected devices. I will update this router as weeks go by and see if it's capable to be long lasting.

Fast and easy setup
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The router was easy to setup and connect to. I have a 1900 sq. ft. split level (not counting my large garage). The router is in the corner of a room on the bottom floor and I get good connection even in my garage o the other side of the house. Also my ring doorbell outside gets good signal strength, and my smart TVs connect much fast than with my old airport/time capsule.

Good router if you want to utilize wifi 6
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great router if you want to utilze wifi 6, and have several wifi 6 capable devices. Amazing speeds, signal rarely drops, multiple wifi channels, can add security using the app as well as monitor and customize your internet settings. Downside to the router is the temperature and the noise it generates while under stress. Other than that I have no negative complaints about the router. Purchase extended warranty for this investment.

Great WiFi router for Star Wars fans
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing looks like an Imperial ship from Star Wars. This router seemed to work really well for me during the short time I had it. If all you need is the basic functionality at high speed and good range, this will be great. Unfortunately my work required some specific VPN functionality in the router that just didn’t have, so I had to exchange for something else. This was actually much easier to setup and use than what I got, but didn’t have that special feature that most people wouldn’t need anyway.

Excellent router
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the price is too high for this product. The wifi range and quality is excellent. There are plenty of options that this router has such as wifi 6 and LAG. Setup is very easy or for power users there is an advance mode as well. As for it being a gaming router, the speed while playing games is very good wired or using wifi. The coverage is really good, our house is 2350sqft and has no problem reaching every part of my house and beyond that, even though the router is in a closed room with no windows. Overall it's an excellent router, the price is high and I think it should be priced lower.

The beast router!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The was a replacement from a 6 year old prior generation Netgear Nighthawk router. This rocks as setup is really simple with the phone app. The coverage is outstanding in a large ranch house (indoors and outdoors). I have full coverage over a 4,000 sq foot area with top speeds. I spent a good hour to get all set up and map locations for coverage. The time well was well spent. All went smoothly with no issues on instillation. As with my prior Nighthawk from years ago, this is a tremendous upgrade in WiFi speed. Highly recommended!
