Be sure to get replacement plan!

I had this router for 43 days. It worked great for 10 days, then it kept dropping the internet connection and/or losing the 5G radio. I worked with Netgear support and changed settings, re-flashed firmware, factory-reset and re-flash firmware. No matter what happened and it would work great again for 3 to 10 days, then go haywire. Luckily I bought the Geek Squad product replacement plan because it took longer than the return period to figure out it was a lemon. At day 43, when Netgear said they'd replace it but I'd pay shipping back to them, I took it back to BestBuy and replaced it with a different brand. I replaced it with an AC instead of an AX. Netgear AX routers, if you read their forums, are just buggy right now and you are paying top dollar to beta-test this technology. It doesn't even have many good features like some of the competition (ASUS RT-AC3100 is what I bought to replace the Netgear on product replacement warranty). If you do decide to get this router, be sure to get the Geek Squad product replacement warranty, because chances are, you'll need it!

I bought this WiFi router since my old Nighthawk X6 unexpectedly died. The first problem was that it wouldn't turn on. I had to restart the thing five times before it would work. Then after the setup process it would shut off. The next problem was trying to connect my WiFi devices. I had to do a hard restart in order to successfully connect some of my WiFi devices. I say some because now my living room Roku, Logitech Harmony, and all my Google Homes don't work. I never had such problems with my old WiFi router.

This router has some very good features, Such as the 5 ports from LAN connections, the app on your phone comes in handy, and the ability to pause the WIFI on individual devices. However, I got much better speeds from my old Apple Airport extreme.

Don't Buy This Router If You Like Stable Internet

Had this router for exactly a year. Lasted about 6 months until it started having issues dropping connection once a day and then periodically losing 5 GHz Wi-Fi and not being able to log in into the router via the app. Hard reset and firmware updates didn't fix any of the issues and support refused to warranty the product even though it was inside of the year of purchase and was registered. Might take them to small claims court. Buy the Geek Squad protection for this item if you do buy this thing.

This was awesome when it was brand new. Tech changes so quickly now days. The signal distance began to decrease. Fortunately I purchased a two year product support plan. Returned it after 18 months and upgraded.

    Garbage. Absolute garbage

I have had a constant open case with Netgear since purchasing this router. It is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever owned. I am constantly switching between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies because it will stop accessing the internet or it will be super slow. The devices that are hardwired will just disappear at times. It's as if the ethernet ports just stop working. One minute my Sonos Play 5 is active and the next I can't access it at all. It is HARDWIRED. There's no reason for this other than the fact that this is a garbage product. What makes things worse is that if you want continued support you have to pay Netgear for premium support. You get 90 days and that is it. I told them if they want me to continue collecting data, they can either pay me or refund the cost of the router. I bought the router in May and it is now October and my problems are nowhere near fixed. I regret purchasing Netgear. Absolutely regret this purchase.

This router covers the whole 2 floor house and has good speeds in all rooms. I have 1 gig fiber internet from metronet and this can easily handle downloading/uploading at 1 gig without a problem.

Worst router I have ever used. I have 14 wireless devices and none of them can stay connected. The DHCP server is unusable I had to manually configure all of my IP addresses.

I was a little displeased with this newer version. Drops signal fairly regularly and requires a reboot. The phone app for it is pretty decent and fairly easy to use. It also maps out and in some instances name the devices that are connected.

Had a mesh setup that never load balanced and everything would ultimately try to connect to the same point and get overloaded. Since upgrading to this, everything not only works, but works much better than the previous setup.

I purchased this router thinking it would work better than the Spectrum router. Well, this one would not connect to the router and provide internet connectivity. I have never purchased a router where it would not connect out of the box. I went though their setup and it would not detect internet connection and would not finish. I tried this on two different modems and nothing. I will never purchase Netgear again!

Wi-Fi is fast, but the lan is super slow and routinely bugs out and needs to be rebooted. Wouldn’t recommend if you are primarily a lan user like me.

Bought this thinking i was going to have the best router available. I upgraded from the R7000. I downloaded all the firmware updates and started to connect all my devices. It seemed every time i connected a new device it would reboot the router and modem. My PC couldn't even locate the wifi (had no issues with my nighthawk r7000). The roku in my bedroom had the worst connection and it kept dropping before i could stream a tv show. This router cost $400..... My R7000 had a better range and speed. I returned this item and bought the Netgear Orbi AC3000. The Orbi AC3000 is far better in every way. I highly recommend the Orbi AC3000..... DO NOT WASTE your money on this router......

A little over a year and now 5 ghz band has stopped working consistently 2.4 ghz band is slower than most routers I now have a Very expensive bridge. other owners have stated its no longer giving out ip address but it does not matter WHAT the issue is there is no fix in sight and calling net gear after the first month involves paying for a subscription. I advise staying away or at least getting the GSP from Best Buy. worked good while it lasted.

The router is ahead of the individual tech but is amazing. It allows network aggregation of two ISP connections plus it is ready for OFDMA for digital Wi-Fi when the tech is ready.

I’m not sure what to think. I’m not sure if it’s my home and neighbors, but even with this new router I still drop the signal when I am on the other floors. Hmm...not sure if it’s my home or just netgear routers.

You’ll more than likely be only using one band due to not many products supporting AX currently. Way to expensive due to that. Went with Linksys triband instead and love it.
