Awesome Router

Started great...never could stay connected

Finally returned it.

After setting a budget for $300-400 dollars on a new router and after reviewing all types of 802.11 AX routers, I chose this one. It was on sale for $299, a $100 off list and Best Buy had the best price. I picked up the router and it didn’t work after booking it up. I called Netgear support and after 2 hours on the phone, they said the unit was defective. I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another router. The second router worked but the app is lacking and the speed wasn’t there; I have a 400mbps plan with Spectrum. The router looks great and the reviews are pretty good too, but the bad reviews are true and the issues I had, have been discussed before. I’m going back to a TP-Link router.

Bought this device thinking it was trusted name brand, it looked good on the inside and it had all the latest features to last me the next 5 years. I’ve used Netgear products for many years but this product was a disappointment. The high end CPU ran hot and overheated when WiFi was left on all the time. Had to reboot every week or every other week. Router would lock up and become inaccessible for no reason. Sometimes I’d just make a change to a DHCP IP address reservation and it would lock up after I saved the setting. Tried firmware updates and resetting to factory defaults, the result was always the same, an unreliable router. I exchanged it for a less expensive model from a different brand.

Good router when it works

Nothing I have seen points to a cause of this. I have had a netgear router for the past 5 years with few issues before purchasing this one.

Bought it in December 2019 and by September 2020 I had problems updating the routers firmware version. Another thing that happened is I was not able to use my internet at home at times or get slow speeds. Please don't buy expensive routers.
