Having just bought a new iPhone with WiFi6, I really wanted to like this router, however it just had too many issues. The Smart Connect (which is designed to let your devices automatically choose the best frequency, 2.4 or 5 GHz) caused too many dropped connection issues, so I turned that feature off completely. The range was better than my old Apple AirPort Extreme, but not significant enough to warrant the price. Lastly, and for me most importantly, the USB 3.0 connection, which I hoped to use as a backup for my family’s MacBooks, was an absolute nightmare. Backups would start then fail after a few GB. Eventually returned it and went back to the AirPort Extreme. Hopefully Netgear gets the kinks worked out in the next iteration, but for now, stay away.

Worst Router on Earth. Even Worse Customer Support

NetGear only gives you 90days of support. For $400 you only get the router. If you need support you must pay. They released a firmware update that broke functionality. Tried to get support and their hold times are longer than an hour. But if you dont call to follow up on the ticket within a day or so they close it. So if you cant wait on the phone for 2hrs for someone to answer you're out of luck. Beyond that, they want to charge you to try to fix a problem THEY created! Throughput is garbage, smart connect doesn't work, enabling AX makes the signal randomly drop. For the record, I am a systems engineer. I've dug into this for hours. What a waste. For home gear, try ASUS. I never these issues with them.

Router would not connect to the internet. Spent hours on the phone with Netgear, and they told me there was nothing they could do, just return it. Waste of time and money.
