Works great for AC... awaiting AX adapters
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does what it should as an AC router. Mine doesn't have the fan noise issues other have described. The fan only comes on high when the router first boots and then not again. It is heavily utilized and still not any loud fan. This router is much more stable than the cable company provided router/modem which would frequently drop all WiFi connections when using multiple devices to stream media. Devices are all connecting at higher WiFi speeds than with the cable company router which was SUPPOSED to connect at higher speeds than I could ever get it to do (short of being 6ft from it).

Great on paper.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has great specs and range but the delay and connection drops it causes make it useless. Web pages time out and have to be refreshed and games lose connection both wired and wi-fi. The last router I had was AC2000 and I wanted to get the AX6000 but it is getting returned.

Beware: Very Poor Engineering and Quality Control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a Netgear Router and equipment user for a long time. We have started steaming our video and Live TV getting away from Cable so I decided to purchase this Netgear Nighthawk AX8 8-Stream AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 Router. Within 24 hours it failed. What happened is it lost the 5 ghz radio signal and it disappeared completely. Went through the process of power down, reboot, power up including Cable modem to put them in synch. Nothing. I brought it back to the store and replaced it with a second unit. Within 24 hours again, we lost the 5 ghz signal. This time through power down, reboot, power up with the cable modem, the 5 ghz was restored. Lasted 2 hours and disappeared. After visiting the router, I noticed excessive heat in the bottom of the unit. Very, very hot. I returned the unit again. Picked up my third router. Within 2 hours, I lost the 5 ghz radio signal. After investigating the unit which I raise up to allow more ventilation beneath the bottom, there still was excessive heat. At this point, I had enough. i can speculate the cause as well as anyone, but I am no engineer. I finally replaced this router with a Netgear A10. I have not lost service for a week and half. Very consistent and reliable. One positive thing to say: Best buy has been absolutely fantastic about this. They have replaced the exitsting routers every time without any hesitation and provided credit to purchase the A10. Excellent company and more excellent people. That is why I like to shop there. They also will price match. They price match my purchase of the A10 from the Amazon website. But if you give me a choice any day, I would rather purchase from Best Buy than Amazon any day. I think it is best to wait for these routers to be out there for a while to get the bugs out before they shove them on the public. Bad move Netgear. Your QC process needs to improve.

The best keep getting better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my X10 R9000 router with this bad boy and never looked back. The fun design made it a conversation piece for all my gaming friends and the antenna were still able to give me the coverage i needed. It worked great from the pool to the front patio. Set up was straight forward and using the app to set parental controls was a plus. I also used this as my Plex Server. It worked great and saved me a ton on running a dedicated system. I tried my original server connected to the dual nics but i did not see any performance increases from doing this while streaming 4k content. I wanted to test the plex server and wireless capabilities so i fired up Plex on all of the tablets and phones in the house (4 and 3) and was able to play content without any buffering. I cant wait to find its limit. I just wish there was the capability to capture SNMP information from this device so i could monitor it better. I am a bit of a metric nut and tracking throughput on the device would have been a plus I recieved this Router from Netgear as part of their First Look Review Program.

It is fast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Noticeable performance improvement over me old Nighthawk and it has the features I need mostly Readycloud. Had some trouble connecting all of my devices. OEM and windows did not update my machines with the correct drivers, I found them on Intel's driver updates. So far it is worth the money.

Powerful Wireless AX/Wi-Fi 6 Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.**I received a beta version of your NETGEAR AX8 to test** This router was a welcomed update to my R8000. I love the simple build and quick speed of this router. The fan can be noisy at some times, but I have the router placed somewhere that mitigates the noise!

Frequent Ethernet disconnects
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My hard wired gaming computer would get disconnected at least 1-2 times a day and typically at the worst time while playing an online game. I know it was not my internet because even just pinging the router (192.168.1.1) would result in dropped packets. If it was my internet connection I would not be dropping packets from PC->Router. That indicated it was a problem between the computer and router. At first I thought maybe it was a bad ethernet cable since I was using a new one. It was not that. I verified my NIC drivers were up to date, made sure any and all power saving features were disabled, updated router firmware, tried other ports on the router and the issue persisted. I decided to run an experiment. Ran the same ethernet cable going from the router->pc and used it connected from modem->pc. Not a single DC in 3 days. Nothing in the event viewer either about a disconnect. Swapped for a different router from Asus and 0 issues. Sadly I can no longer return this junk and its money down the drain. Thanks Netgear! Furthermore the web portal for management is outdated garbage.

VERY poor performance with the USB slots.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately the Nighthawk AX8 has extremely poor functionality for media servers or hard drives that connect to the USB ports. Hopefully Netgear will fix this via firmware in the future. I've used the functionality on several other brands of routers with no problems (until the routers eventually failed over time) and this is by far the worst I've seen. I tried two different AX8 routers and two different hard drives (one HDD and one SSD) to no avail. They appear to work properly at first, then while watching mp4 files via connected TVs the router loses the signal frequently, and every time I tried to watch something on the media server (or if I tried to upload a file via PC) the router would lose it's internet signal and would have to be reset. I even emailed the company with details about the errors and never heard back from them. The router also demands that you create a Netgear account and register the USB device before operating it, which I've never seen before in any router. I now own a tri-band TP-LINK AC4000 and it works flawlessly with the same media server with no registration steps and it's $150 less. If connecting a USB device to the router is important to you, I'm afraid you'll be VERY disappointed with the AX8, at least for the time being.

Wifi is inconsistent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In house Wifi performance fluctuates. Sitting 15 ft from the router, bandwidth jumps between 866Mbps down to 130Mbps. Our adapter fluctuates between 1300Mbps down to 70Mbps. nstructions / help was not easy (not for the novice). Eventually, changing channels helped, but fluctuations / inconsistency are still issues. Distance covered is better than our old router, but not up to the hype. Most of the house runs on the slower 2.4Ghz frequency. Range up to 75 ft, then coverage drops. The "wing" design is connected to the base via 2 fragile hinges. One hinge popped with no duress during set up - i.e. while moving the wing to the upright position. The old antennas feel sturdy compared to this design. The Nighthawk app is a nice start, but could use a couple more features. Also, the app confusingly miscategorizes devices - showing devices as connecting on 2.4Ghz as 5Ghz and vice versa. Overall, this seems like a first gen product. Performance and design are over hyped. Fundamentals like the router and switch work - but you could get that with an older gen product, with more stability and a better price.

Intermittent Disconnects
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased over two years ago to replace a Nighthawk R7000. This router has impressive range and download speeds compared to my previous router. While gaming on a PS4, I would get random intermittent "LAN Cable Disconnected" messages followed by disconnections from gaming sessions. I later found that these random disconnects affected both wired and wireless devices, resulting in dropped phone calls. I submitted several trouble calls, which was frustrating because the issue does not appear shortly after reset - which was part of each troubleshooting session. I purchased the extended warranty and have had current ticket open for over six months. I was eventually provided with a "beta" firmware that has resolved the random disconnects but has dropped my speeds by two-thirds. I have over 25 devices connected with good range. Unfortunately, I have to choose between random disconnects or reduced speeds.

Great Router for all kinds of client devices
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nighthawk AX6000 is an excellent product for my requirements which supports over 8 devices in my home. At any given time, it has a connection with 2 iPhones, 1 iPad, 1 Laptop, 1 Desktop, 1 Smart TV, 1 AppleTV, 1 Smart Speaker from different rooms. The router supports all these devices with a Usual use case being watching an HD video content and simultaneously working on laptop or iPad and browsing Instagram on phone. I have excellent WiFi experience with Nighthawk AX6000.

2 faulty routers + horrendous support = RUN AWAY!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Run, don't walk, away from this router! Beware - hundreds of consistent 1-star reviews on amazon and other sites. The RAX80 has been a nightmare from the first week, and after countless hours with on support calls with netgear I will never buy another one of their products. And for context - I'm 32 and work in software, so I'm generally sufficiently tech savvy. The router began dying a few days after I set it up. Both my 2.4 and 5ghz networks show as available, but all my devices would say "no internet connection", and if I swapped between networks they would tell me the password is incorrect. Turning the router off and on would fix it for a few days, then the internet would go out again and I'd have to repeat the process. Then this started happening every day, then several times per day... It took ~3-4 hours on the phone with tech support to over multiple phone calls going through various factory resets, diagnostics, changing the channels etc. before they finally agreed to replace my router entirely.... The brand new router showed up, I got it up and running, and a week later it died. The exact same process repeated itself - dying once a week, then every few days, and ultimately several times/day. 2 faulty routers. Netgear service - the people I've spoken with have been nice and reasonably competent, but the process every time has been a nightmare. It takes a minimum of an hour to go through the reset process with them, which they make you do several times before they'll agree to send a new router, and that's only if you're lucky enough to get ahold of anyone. I've submitted ~4-5 support requests before getting a single call back (though every request generates the automated "please rate your experience" email). When you request chat support it will tell you're position inline only for you to watch as you apparently get pushed further and further back. Netgear says the hardware warranty only covers replacements of defective units, so I guess repeating this process over and over again is my life now. Then support has the gall to try to sell me extended phone support... If I need continued phone support, it's because this is a piece of garbage. I'll never buy a product from netgear again.

Great Router for any home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this as a beta tester and was very satisfied with its use. I was using a NetGear C7000v2 and I noticed a significant improvement overall in a comparison between the two. Wireless / wired was definitely better. As for noise from other reviewers, I had none. Excellent router.

Great looking but very buggy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router looks amazing, its plastic is cheap looking upon closer inspection. I really liked it when I saw it at Best Buy and had to pair it with my WiFi 6 iPhone 11 Pro. But im having alot if intermittent issues with ALL my WiFi devices. I constantly have to be rebooting it and it constantly loses connection or speeds are slower than my previous router. My 4 year old Linksy router is still faster than this one. Looks amazing but not worth it or the high price. Something that cost this much should work not be buggy. You can look online and a large majority are also having the same issue, mines on the current Firmware. Bad product, Don't Buy!!

***MUCH IMPROVED WIRELESS SPEED FOR GIGABIT***
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Much improved wireless speeds over our previous R7500V2 with 18 devices connected using Verizon's Gigabit connection. We'll see what happens when AX becomes more prevalent but for now we're very satisfied.
