    Fails shortly after warranty expires

I purchased my own cable modem since I did not want my own router to be behind a cable company's modem/router combination. I use a mesh network at home, and wanted a separate modem, which at the time was not available. Unfortunately, Netgear's warranty is only one year, and my Geek Squad warranty was only for 2 years. My Internet became sporadic, and I blamed the cable company; then the connection dropped, and troubleshooting isolated the problem to the modem. I had no options but to get a replacement from the cable company; now supplying separate modems and routers at no charge. I won't be purchasing my own cable modem in the future.

    Very Disappointing Product

I got this Modem at a closeout price, incredible.....Used it successfully from Aug 2022 until Late November 2022. After Black Friday 2022 this Modem started acting up, and caused all kinds of problems and heartache. It would take 10- 30 minutes to connect to internet, and lost signal very easily. My cable provider sent out a supervisor, who claimed that this Modem was damaged by a firmware update. It was past the store return window. I reached out to Netgear, because it still was in warranty. They WOULD NOT accept my return because they insisted I prove that it was defective, and went back and forth with emails for three weeks. So basically they insisted that I do their work for them. I concluded the correspondence by telling them, I am done with Netgear, and you have lost a lifetime customer. I would recommend almost any other brand but this. They weren't discourteous, but they were dismissive. I decided the Netgear had already stolen enough of my time. But Seriously NEVER will I purchase a Netgear product ever again.

Excellent modem for “future-proofing” if gigabit internet is not yet available in your area, but you know you want it when it arrives.

After 5 Days, sync issues started

For the first 5 days the CM1000 was great. Installation was completely done on line with no call to Xfinity needed. Have Comcast/Xfinity 200 and was getting 237 down with ping ranging from 10 to 13 with this modem. On the 6th day modem lost connection, do to sync issues with Comcast. The only way to reconnect was to power down and restart the CM1000 modem. This has happened once a day for the past 3 days. Returned unit to Best Buy, before the15 day return limit expired and bought the SB6190. I will wait for a year or so for the 3.1 problems to be worked out.

Works well, but NO INCLUDED COAX CABLE

Why would you not include the coax cable that you need to make this work? Makes no sense.

    Speeds were great, but returned

    Posted .

I returned the modem because of constant T3 & T4 errors in the log. I had Comcast checking my signals which were perfect, but we could never identify the problem. Basically, at least twice a day my connection would drop from Comcast in Tennessee and it wouldn't come back up until the Modem was manually power cycled. I returned after a few days and bought the SB6190 and haven't had a single issue on the same coax and splitter. I would say this modem is overly sensitive to interference. Perhaps that can be resolved with firmware, but currently as of 1/18/17 I would NOT purchase this modem.

Failed within a year - hope it was a fluke

I work from home, and bought the CM1000 in June 2017 expecting a top-of-the-line, worry-free, dependable product, for a top of the line price. It's now Feb 2018 and the modem has apparently failed. I say apparently, because I cannot get NetGear tech support because I'm outside my 90-day window, and not going to spend another $50 for their premium support. I probably should have bought the BestBuy replacement plan at time of purchase, but didn't. Win some, lose some. So while my support experience may be self-inflicted, NetGear really should be producing products that reliably function for more than a year. I hope my product experience was a fluke.

    Disappointed

Upgrading to a 3.1 modem to get 500 speed and thought I would give Netgear a try this time. My previous modem is an Arris and I've never had issues. Well, I contacted Medicom today to activate and after many attempts, they couldn't get the modem to be online on their end. I was told that it could be a defective modem and that I should replace it and they could try again. I'm going to replace it, but going back to an Arris 3.1 instead.

I have had this modem for a year ,a few months back there was a huge firmware update for the cm1000 and a nighthawk router I own . As soon as I updated both, vudu started acting up . I kept getting errors on vudu I could no longer stream a movie with out trying multiple times . I went out and got a new router I still could not stream vudu with the router setup right . I then went out and got the new arries modem for 3.1 and wow my problem was solved. I can stream vudu now I wish I would of waited for the arries to be in stores.

    Deceptive Packaging

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I read the reviews of the Netgear CM1000 on the Best Buy website and looked carefully at the product packaging at my local Best Buy which clearly indicated that this modem was compatible with Xfinity. As soon as I got home and hooked it up, the modem couldn't see the Internet; I called Netgear and was told I had to call Comcast to give them the MAC number (which a number of people indicated they didn't have to do and the instructions suggested wouldn't have to be done, as it was self-authenticating). I was then told by the Comcast representative that Comcast didn't support DOCSIS 3.1. So, I'm sure this is a fine modem, but I'll never find out as I have to return it to Best Buy for a refund and get an older, slower modem. It would be nice if Best Buy and Netgear would have verified that this model works with Comcast nationwide or bother advertising one in an area that doesn't support it.

    DOES NOT WORK WITH COMCAST

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product does not work with Comcast even though it is "Comcast certified" by Netgear and recommended by Best Buy. The modem will pull the incorrect Comcast Deployed firmware version even after a factory reset with proper firmware sent from Comcast. I have spent loads of time and money buying additional support sessions with Netgear in order to try and get a solution. Troubleshooting this with Comcast and Netgear has taken months and months of frustration and dealing with inconsistent performance. In trying to save money by using my own modem with Comcast I have spent loads more.

    Broken hardware, Netgear support terrible

The modem suddenly stopped working in under 60 days. I spent hours on the phone trying to explain to them that it was just constantly rebooting and was not functional, but they weren't having it. They tried to make me pay to ship it to them, and said they would send one to me within 10 days. Garbage, I replaced it with a motorola and will never buy another piece of hardware from Netgear again
