Comcast can "brick" your modem

SB6141 worked fine, using it now. This device allows firmware updates from your ISP. I went to bed at 11pm with the internet. Woke up at 6am without the internet, all lights flashing on the modem, even when all cables disconnected except the power. I'm back on the SB6141 while I wait for RMA. I'm torn on this and settled on 3-stars. I had no noticeable improvement in throughput, but there this firmware flash vulnerability I now have. The older modem did not allow this. My complaint is really with Comcast, but should the modem allow itself to be "bricked"? How about creating a copy of the previous firmware and reverting to it when the modem can't boot? But what do I know?
