Purchased the NETGEAR - 32 X 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem as a prelude to cutting the cord. This modem exceeds the requirements needed for the 300 Mb plan available in my area from Cox, while providing the capacity for upgrade should additional service be offered in the future. Speed tests are consistently pulling 360-390 Mbps download with 27-31 Mbps upload on the 300 Mb plan Cox offers. Streaming and gaming presents no issues with multiple devices utilizing the internet at the same time. For us, this is a definite improvement over the modem Cox provided. Testing before the swap showed similar speed tests, but displayed multiple instances of buffering and FPS drops while gaming if multiple devices were operating at the same time. Setup was a breeze with easy to follow instructions. Activation through Cox did require duplication of the Power On functions for the Modem and Router. I would suggest calling them for activation once you have gathered the necessary information from the Modem (Part Number, Serial Number, etc.) and have made the appropriate connections. Required information is well documented in the instructions. We are 3 months in with this purchase and are happy we made it.

Received this modem on a Friday and got up early on a Saturday to install it. I should have just slept in because it LITERALLY took me 5 minutes to connect!!!! I unplugged the Comcast modem/router, plugged in this monster, turned on the computer, followed the instructions, restarted the computer once and I was connected! The directions are so easy to follow that I didn't even need to call Comcast. I did a speed test and found that my PING had dropped CONSIDERABLY!!!! I am VERY pleased with this product and I'm totally ready for DOCSIS 3.1 as well!!!!

Had a Motorola 2 in one modem/router for 2 years. It kept on connecting and disconnecting since day one. It got so bad, that I couldn't do anything online anymore. I threw it in the trash where it belonged, and got this separate modem and wifi router by Netgear. It does wonders and never disconnects. My 14 year old son loves it for gaming. With the Motorola, he couldn't game anymore. I would like to thank Netgear for making good reliable products.

If I could give this Modem 10 Stars I would. This Modem is at the Top of the Scale. It is very fast and efficient, I have no problems with streaming many items at the same time. Its well worth the money that I paid for it. A VERY GOOD PRODUCT.

Excellent choice to leave cable behind

We decided to leave cable TV behind, and convert to full streaming. Wanted to get leading edge for a modem bandwidth. After the easy installation and connection with 2 wireless routers, we're totally satisfied with performance, handling 3 TVs with Fire sticks, WiFi to several laptops, smart phones and tablets. We've seen few glitches watching TV, and the internet speed is faster than we had before.

We bought this one to replace an ariss that supposedly went bad. Sadly i dont think that was the case. But oh well. For this one tho, its nice to have multiple Ethernet ports if you can get them set up. Only the 1st port works for me. If i try to set up the other ports, nothing happens and i have to reset the modem. I called my isp, they couldnt help me. The web based UI is simply old once you figure out how to get signed into it. (The web address is on a label under the modem). And leaves you wondering what you paid for. Oh thats right. Speed. If you can get 1Gig down and your isp isnt the worst. Then you’ll definitely get your speed. So far, the first week we were still experiencing the same issue we had with our old modem. Then last week everything went fine again. Idk if it was me complaining to my isp or what. But im consistently getting 960 down 80 up with some good overall ping. Its fast and hopefully itll be reliable. time will tell if that holds true.

Buy Your Own instead of Renting

I made the wise decision to buy my own modem and router because the speed and the router coverage I got from my rented Xfinity X1 box was horrible. I have one TV on wifi about 30 feet away and I had terrible connection, terrible speeds, and just a bad experience overall. I turned in my X1 box, plugged in this modem, hooked up an Asus Gigabit router and never looked back. My network speeds jumped, I never have connection issues, and it worked seamlessly with Xfinity and when I changed ISPs to RCN. I also upgraded my speed to a gigabit connection and I get upwards of 700mhz regularly. It's a larger one time expense but will save you money in the long run and lower your cable bill. Stop giving ISPs and Cable providers free money BUY YOUR OWN. Lastly, the setup is super easy and the first time you connect you get step by step instructions. It's basically plug and play but you can tweak things if you're a little more experienced.

I had purchased this to replace an S33v2 Arris Surf Board that stopped working after just barely over a year of use. This is by far a superior modem brining in speeds that are even better than the Arris when that was working. The set up was easy (I use Xfinity) and it connected quickly with my service after it was registered. Highly recommended!!

This was my first time getting a cable modem. Thought it might be useful to go with DOCSIS 3.1 rather than 3.0. Didn't need wifi since I have a wifi router. I am using it with Comcast 200 Blast. Speeds are 237.4 (down) 12.7 (up). It was easy to set up -- used a laptop to connect directly during installation.

My old modem was throttling my internet since Comcast had upgrade my internet to 250 mbps. Purchased this modem in hopes to increase my hardline internet speed and increase my wifi speed. What an improvement this device gave me on my internet speed. Install was super easy and the product has been working great for past 3 months.

With basic understanding of modems and routers (looking at some reviews and making a choice for which to buy) this was easy to set up and connect a router too. Everything was up and running in less than a half hour and that is including calling the isp and turning it on. I have only had it for around a week but have experienced no outage and blazing speeds. I have pretty high hopes but if anything changes I will edit this. I do not see that happening though.

To begin: I have not been a NetGear fan for a long time [I am an IT Tech for 34+ years. Yes; I started with DOS 2.0] I cut the cable TV 'cord' and upped my net speed from 25 Mbps to 300 Mbps ~1.5 months ago. My old [Arris] Motorola SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 was stuck at 25 Mbps [w/ a GB network throughout the house]. The cable provider tech support tried many times to push the latest firmware to no avail. I went through every connection point from the street through the house. I had the cable from the street box replaced. I was then ready to replace my ASUS RT-AC68R router. That is, until a net search found a long running conflict with Motorola's SB6141 firmware & cable providers system/tech support. I bought this modem as a last resort to obtain the 300 Mbps speed I was paying for... Magnificent!! This modem is easy to configure - Rapid, flawless registration & update to firmware by the cable provider. I never had to call tech support. Every step was on-line. There was an immediate improvement in download/upload speeds. An initial speed test with a single isolated PC received 50% above the 300 Mbps download speed. Upload went from 5.91 Mbps on the SB6141 to 30+ Mbps --- Living the life streaming on everything. Good Job, NetGear!

This modem solved my Xfinity performance problems. I had a Docsis 3.0 unit and didd't know if 3.1 would make that much difference, but my speeds went from 50 MB/s to 150 MB/s which is the performance I pay for. The only tricky part is you have to connect by ethernet to the unit to get it set up. I tried letting it start itself up, but that didn't work. My Mac laptop doesn't even have a network port, so I had to buy an adapter. Once my Mac was hardwire connected, everything worked per the instructions. Also unlike my previous combined modem/wifi unit, I have not had to restart this one ever, in the months I've had it.

The Only 1 Gig Modem That Worked On Optimum

Besides the fact that Optimum's customer service has gone down the toilet because of outsourcing, this has been the only 1 Gig over coax Modem I could get working without a problem, and get good speed. I have tried an Arris modem listed on Optimum's outdated site for customer-owned modems, bought directly from Arris, with 4 ports on the back. I tried the small, white Arris SB8200 (which works for a lot of people) that had 2 ports on the back, but it was this Netgear that finally worked. It also only has 1 output port on the back. The one on Optimum's site has a known issue to have a faulty Intel chip inside. It's known as the Puma chip. So avoid modems with that chip. This Netgear and the Arris SB8200 don't have that chip. I believe it's a Broadcom. There's a website that lists what modems have the faulty Puma chip and there's a LOT. When I tried the SB8200, I got the speed, but the internet kept dropping out randomly and became more frequent as days went by. With people working from home, I couldn't have that. Running a speed test I get over 900 Mbps WIRELESSLY from my router, which is an Asus Wifi 6 gaming router ( RT-AX86U). Gaming routers tend to give better speeds, better coverage, and lower latency. This Netgear CM1000 and the Arris 8200 were among the first 1 Gig modems made available. So they're not new models, but I think the single output port may have something to do with it working. I think the multiple output ports were getting confused over which should have access, to put it simply. Again, customer service is terrible, especially when it's your own equipment. I also have voice service, but use a second, older Arris modem (TM822R) just for the phone service, with no internet enabled on it, and the Netgear is the internet modem. Yes, that's possible but your splitters must be configured correctly so both modems have decent signal. When the line comes in from outside it goes to a 2-way splitter first. One leg goes to the 2nd 2-way for the modems, the other leg goes to another splitter for cable boxes. As a former Optimum field technician of 10 years, I can tell you that this Netgear modem, plus my Asus router, give much better speed and coverage than their terrible Ubee gateway (modem and router combined). It's only been a few days so far, but no internet drop outs with this modem at all. Other Optimum customers in different locations may have luck with the Arris 8200, or I had a defect. I'm part of Optimum's Long Island, NY customer base and this is the modem that finally worked for me.

I purchased this router on 2 basis, one it had to be future proof to the new upcoming internet standard with regards to DOCSIS 3.1 and 2 it had to have plenty of channels to handle the amount of traffic my family uses. I was using the Surfboard by Motorola previously and it worked great but with only 3 channels it was choking the speed. After doing the research and reviews I chose the Netgear model, great praise, and reliability along with plenty of channels to handle all the streaming and work my family does. I have been using this now for several weeks and have not experienced any freezes, slowness or issues. I can stream 4k through my Roku stick while the kids game online and the girlfriend surfs the web without any hiccups. If you're looking for a great future proof router that is plug and play ready you can't go wrong.

I purchased this modem to take advantage of the extra channels which are available on the DOCSIS 3.0 band as well as attempting to take advantage of a DOCSIS 3.1 channel if Xfinity would allow it. My problem was that interference would at times slow me down (my previous modem had only 8 channels). As it turns out, Xfinity did allow me to use a DOCSIS 3.1 channel with my service tier! That was a nice surprise. The main advantage here is that my traffic is spread out among more channels. More channels = less possibility for interference from poor line conditions and other people using the line. So far the modem has been running much cooler than my old modem (which needed a fan to avoid overheating) and has given me pretty consistent speeds. I'd recommend this modem if your use case is similar to mine. If you're trying to max out your gigabit speeds, I'd suggest going with the modem that suggest link aggregation.
