Spent $300 on this thing hoping that it would provide me with improved internet access and I’m still having the same issues. I tried to register the item on the netgear website and the item can’t be found, so I have no idea how to use the functions.

Have had so much trouble with internet speed, have to unplug it and plug it back in several times a day. Called netgear several tines to trouble shoot and they said it was defective and had to pay for them to ship me a new one. Set up the new one and still have issues. Xfinity told me to wait 24hrs and then see if it fixes itself. Why does this have to be so difficult and why does this expensive device not work properly?

I don’t know how the product is because it won’t work with my internet provider even though the salesman assured me that it would. My son tried to set it up when He came home after Christmas. He had trouble so he called my cable provider and they said it is not compatible. I tried to exchange it for one that would work and it was 5 days past exchange date. So I have a $300 router I can’t use thanks to your salesman. Because of that I will never shop at Best Buy again. I will make sure that everyone on Facebook and all social media knows how Best Buy treats their customers!!! So sad because I would spend a lot of money there every year.

Netgear sold me a unit with no valid MAC number

I purchased this product in order to avoid having to pay Comcast a monthly fee of $11. I then had to return it because after being on the phone with Comcast and with Netgear they would not find in a Mac number that would work with the device nor could they help me in any way shape or form. When I reached out their tech department and they were supposed to send me an email to review of my case and let me know how things were going, they simply let me know that the case was resolved and everything should be great and they want to know how wonderful their service was. Their service is horrible and their product is inferior please never sell this product again to any human being thank you!

Easy to set up other than having to call comcast to activate. Purchased this item and internet worked initially for about 2 months that started cutting out every few minutes needing to to reboot. Tried working with Comcast and Netgear with no results. Purchased a second modem since it had been more than 90 days and no longer eligible for tech support from Netgear to find the second did not work as well. Older model modem by Arris worked well both times when NEtgear did not work. Only reason decided to switch was not internet phone capable.

At exactly 8 months, this gateway failed. Over the next 2 days, I spent $50 for the privilege of spending 8+ hrs on the phone with tech support. I also spent $30 to have a replacement router overnighted, which was reconditioned (not new) and still wouldn't work properly. It's been a week, and customer service has still not returned my call regarding replacing the second defective gateway with a new one. I will never again buy a Netgear product and wouldn't advise anyone else to do so either. Poor product, poor customer service.

Netgear 90 day warranty & service contract ripoff

This product worked for about 6 months. After that time, one of the two channels ceased operating. Netgear would only offer service if I bought a service contract. They did run a diagnostic to inform me the issue is repairable. Upon reading the warranty page on the website, I learned they have "confidence" for only 90 days.

After initial hook up the Internet would drop at least once a week. I work with tech-support for three months. It finally stop dropping off the Internet. The phone pretty much never work and the tech didn't know why. So after working with Comcast for 2 months we finally replace the modem with Comcast modem everything is fine. Netgear not so fine after 90 days you have to buy more tech-support and basically has no warranty.

The first thing I did was set up the wireless networks to match the current SSIDs that I am running-- 2.4 & 5 ghz bands. After I configured the device I had to call comcast to register it. That took about 15 minutes as all they needed was the CMAC address of the device which is printed on the bottom of the unit. Once the Comcast rep could identify the unit I was told it would take between 5 & 15 minutes for the setup to complete. I think it took longer because Comcast distributed a firm update to the device as well-- The firmware is distributed automatically to the unit by Comcast, so you cannot update it via Netgear's website. Afterward I learned to NOT navigate into the control panel UNTIL IT HAS FULLY NEGOTIATED THE CONNECTION-- In other words, don't log in to the unit until after all lights have illuminated-- Solid Power, Solid DS/US, Solid Internet, flashing 2.4 & 5, and Solid Phone 1 (I only have one phone with Comcast). This took me several restarts to learn this fact. I have a total of ten devices connected to the 2.4 ghz channel as follows-- 6 security cameras, 2 Vizio TVs, 1 Chromecast unit, & 1 Yamaha Amp. (The cameras stream constantly 24/7 @ 720p & 30fps) I also have nine devices connected to the 5ghz channel as follows-- 3 laptops, 1 iPad, 4 iPhones, & 1 Galaxy. Additionally, I have 1 computer and printer connected via ethernet. The performance has been superior. The connection to the security cameras on the network has been rock solid, which is a tremendous improvement over the Netgear N900 that this unit replaces. Being able to see the channels used by other wifi units nearby helps me select a channel that is not used and thus increases the connection performance for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz. My home is a 4,000 sqft 4 story condo. The unit is located on the second floor and the coverage is superior. I am very pleased. I will note that the Netgear N900 this replaces also had excellent coverage, but the signal strength of this unit is much stronger based on the fact that the cameras are not losing their signals as they previously did with the N900. Overall, I am very pleased and happy with this unit. I researched and compared the specs of this unit with the Comcast Gateway 3, and I chose this one because of the 24x8 Channel Bonding and Wireless broadcasting features. I also believe that the Netgear GUI is superior and easy to navigate vs the Cisco made Comcast Gateway 3. The unit is pricey, but I'm telling you that I think it it's worth it. It also has 24x8 Channel bonding that should be able to grow with Comcast in the future... so the device should last more than the three years it's gonna take me to balance the cost vs renting. I am getting my full bandwidth and then some from this unit via ethernet & wifi (5ghz).

If you are looking for a plug & play unit, this is not for you. I own the netgear r8000 & r7500 which work great, thought this unit would be as easy to use as those were. After hours working with Netgear support & Xfinity they were able to get to work somewhat. The downloads speeds are very unstable, great 1 minute, horrible the next. There is no real benefit in using this item as it stands right now, if they are able to stabilize the signal then i would reconsider, but for now it's going back into the box & back to the store.

Whenever the power goes out the unit does not reset. It will lock up all lights on and does not respond to resets. I have had it happen 5 times since August. I have to plug in and out for hours and pray that it eventually resets. I wait an hour between each try. For 300$ this is garbage the firmware is on Comcast so they update it. I am just going to go back to renting a Comcast Modem. Steer clear it sounds good to save 10$ a month but sadly it fails to deliver.

Nowhere on your description or specs does it list this as a 5G modem and it should. This is unacceptable by omission. When I called Best Buy their CSR literally hung up on me. Additionally, the set-up never worked and Netgear customer service is horrible. I just gave up. I want a refund
