    Not Quite 1 Gig Wifi

I bought the AX6000 to replace the AC3000 Orbi routers I already had set up when I switched from a 600mbps plan to a 1gig plan in hopes I would be able to get closer to 1gig over wifi. I was getting around 600mpbs on the AC3000 and when I set up the AX6000 I was getting ~650mbps, not close to the 800+mbps I was hoping to get. The coverage is outstanding with the AX6000, I was getting slightly faster speeds than the AC3000 the further I got away from the router (I took several before/after tests and charted them from different rooms). I am returning the AX6000 not because it is not a great mesh router, it absolutely is, but mainly because it is still not able to get me the 800mbps I wanted over wifi and I don't have any wifi 6 devices at this time. It is tough for me to stomach a $700 purchase for only a marginal increase in wifi speeds. I hope this is helpful because I had a tough time finding reviews that compared the real life wifi speeds of the AC3000 and the AX6000. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who has an older/slower router as it will be future proof and has great coverage but for me, the AC3000 is still performing almost as strong as the AX6000 so I will hold off.

I have been using this system for about a year now and can honestly say that this is the best purchase I've made when it comes to wireless routers. prior to owning this I heard nothing but complaints about our service. since installing this system, I haven't heard one complaint. Cost a small fortune, but it's worth its weight in gold.

Orbi provides an amazing mesh network and is by far the fastest I've tried. On a 1Gb network was getting almost no loss off the satellites. Super fast and easy to set up. Con: user interface doesn't provide the needed support. For parental controls requires additional purchase and subscription. Cant set up family network or control screen time without additonal purchase and subscription.

Best decision we made so far when it comes to our internet. We both work from home, have a ton of wireless or smart devices and so having the coverage all over the house is great! No lost connection, fast internet, etc. It works great with a DOCSIS 3.1 32x8 modem with either 100Mbps internet or 1Gbps fiber.

My old Orbi stopped working after having them for five years. So I needed news one to replace my old set. With myhome being three floors and 4,500 square feet. I was surprised to see these Orbi’s cover my entirr home with blazing fast speed with two untis. My old set had three. Worth the money, even though they are a little pricey.

It took me 3 routers of upgrading before I settled on this one. Worry-free lightning speed wifi around my house without drops or disconnections. I purchased the Eero and the Eero pro before this and had so many drops with connection with those. This is definitely what I wanted with my 1gbps speeds.

Easily doubled the speed of the Linksys AC2400 mesh Wi-Fi I replaced. Slow-ish but easy setup and much nicer app than the Linksys Velop one. It’s only 2 days so far but everything seems to be better than my previous setup. Satellite maxed out at over 500Mbps on speed tests but I think it’s the limit of the test tool instead of the available bandwidth.

    Good router with some caveats

TLDR: A nice router, but ultimately didn’t like how big it was. It seemed to do a poor job of performing handoffs from router to satellite and vice versa. Dropped WiFi calls a few times. App isn't great. Purchased Eero Pro instead. Full Review: I purchased the Netgear Orbi to replace a five-year-old ASUS router. The problem with the ASUS was that I was not able to receive a signal while sitting on the back patio of our 1500 sqft home. I tried to do as much research as possible before purchasing the Orbi, and I hope this review helps others as I was not able to find a direct comparison between the Orbi AX6000 and the Eero Pro, which is what I ultimately purchased after deciding to return this product. The Eero Pro, while not WiFi 6, seems to seamlessly transition devices from pro to pro. The app is also much nicer and feels more like a finished product than an afterthought. The Pros are also much smaller, and don't stand out nearly as much as the Orbi. Prior to buying this, I was considering purchasing an Eero Pro ($500), and also an Amplifi Alien ($700+) mesh system, but ultimately decided on the Orbi because it has WiFi 6 (although we only currently have only one WiFi 6 device) and also because it has a dedicated backhaul for communicating with the satellite. Another reason was because we are currently in the process of building a 2,100 sqft house and I wanted to ensure there was coverage over the entire house. People mentioned in their reviews coverage of their 5,000 sqft homes so I figured I would be all set when our house is finished this fall. Out of the box, the Orbi was much larger than I had expected. I would say both the router and satellite are nearly a foot tall. Setup was as quick as stated. Within 10-15 minutes I had our network up and running. I used the same SSID and password as our old router, so all of our devices connected immediately. I should mention, that I tested the signal strength with a WiFi analyzer app on my phone with both the ASUS and the Orbi, and the signal was now significantly better in the 3 locations that I tested (office, living room couch, back patio). The Orbi seems to do a fairly good job of choosing channels that are the least congested on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. We pay for 100/10 Mbps, and I was getting roughly 117 Mbps in every location. So, it did well from a coverage and speed perspective. The app feels like it’s lacking. It has a signal tester, which was kind of neat, but I will say I was surprised to see that it showed my signal as only “good” when sitting about 10 feet away from the main router. Aside from seeing what device is connected to the satellite or the router, the app is pretty worthless. You can run speed tests from the app, but I would rather do that from my phone or laptop. You can turn off the trial version of Netgear armor (which seemed ok I guess) in the app as well. You can’t really adjust any settings; not even custom DNS, without signing into the router through a web browser. So again, the app was lacking to me and felt like more of an afterthought. One thing I found very strange while checking the network map in the app, was that the majority of our devices were connecting to the satellite instead of the main router, despite the router being about half the distance away. Granted, the satellite has a direct line of sight to where I sit on the couch and a laptop in the office (on the opposite side of the house), but the main router is directly behind me while on the couch. I called customer support out of curiosity to see what they would say about it. I asked myself, “Does it really matter? It’s a mesh system, and the speeds are still maxed out.” Well, it was just bugging me, especially because the app was showing the devices as having less than full signal. Customer support essentially told me “that’s just how it works, it’s a mesh system” without any real explanation. I felt as though they were being a little condescending. I know technically the satellite may just have had a better signal, but it just felt strange to me that the devices were connecting to the satellite that was further away. Seeing two of three bars for signal strength on everything just got under my skin. Maybe you won’t care as long as you’re getting the speeds you’re paying for. As I stated above, the Orbi did drop some connections. It seemed like every time I walked out the front door (~30ft from router) that the connection would drop and reconnect. It dropped a couple of WiFi calls as well, seemingly while transitioning from node to node. That was pretty disappointing for a $700 system. I was planning on doing a wired backhaul in our new home, perhaps that would have helped, but it’s a mesh system and a pricey one at that. Conclusion: If you pay for gig speeds, perhaps this product is worth it although I’ve read reviews of people who have gig with an Eero, and they say they get great speeds too. I would definitely recommend the Eero pro ($200 cheaper). Also, remember….that if you need to purchase another Orbi satellite for any reason, they are another $379.

I've been trying to find a solid WiFi 6 Mesh router, and have returned them all, as none would work effectively or were difficult to configure. My boss recommended the Orbi AX6000, so I decided to give it a shot. OMG! Super simple setup via their App, everything auto configured, and the speeds I'm getting are ridiculous (850-950Mbps). Highly recommended!

I recently upgraded from the Orbi RBR50 with 2 satellites. I had it since they came out over 4 years ago. With all of the additional smart home devices and streaming fighting for bandwidth in my home it was time for an upgrade. I also had trouble connecting to my outdoor Ring cameras due to many competing WiFi signals outside. This new AX6000 RBR852 solved all of my issues. Everything works smoothly and faster, Hue lights and switches, streaming devices, cameras, phones, Ecobee thermostat, Echos, Sonos speakers and computers. YES, it's expensive, but if you have a lot of devices and/or a new construction home with all of the energy efficiency built in, this system will get it done. I have seen some reviews talking about only basic settings with the Orbi app. Don't buy into those reviews. You can still access all of the settings from your computer by navigating to the router from your browser. The full suite of settings will be available to you. One thing to keep in mind, if you are upgrading from an older Orbi system like I did, the old satellites are not wireless compatible at this time. You can use the satellites, but only through a wired connection. Netgear has promised a software upgrade to add compatibility. This also applies to the outdoor satellite.
