I purchased this and had it set up for all of a few hours. As soon as I got it connected I immediately noticed that my WiFi 6 clients were slower than my WiFI 5 clients. Coverage was good, but the units just couldn’t deliver the speed. I have 1GIG internet and 5 feet from the main unit my iPhone 11 Pro was only getting 300 down.

What a waste of time and money. I got the Orbi and connected all my devices and none had a full 3/3 bars connect, my tv and fire stick are literally next to it. Then I called up Netgear, got put on hold for an hour for the Netgear rep to tell me to turn off the AX setting (which isn’t essentially the waif 6). It didn’t work, then I was told I would get a return call/email and they never did. They had awe full customer service, I mean it is a 700$ router. The app isn’t customizable. For me it was between this and the Velop Linksys 6, I returned this one and replaced with Linksys and I’m very happy now.

These range extenders are quite expensive. When they were first installed they worked well for a while. One day the system stopped working. Doing a hard reset is way more time consuming and difficult than it needs be. The "help" line was not useful, as they just read the manual slowly. Probably if I take the time reset the system in the proper order they'll work again, but I don't have that much time to devote to them. Poor reliability for a premium price. Not recommended.

Another Winner from Netgear with Orbi WiFi 6

I’ve had a lot of different networking products over the years from DLink, Linksys, some SMB Cisco product as well as Netgear. I would say that my networking requirements and home setup is on the complicated side with 28 active devices on my network right now (and that doesn’t include everything that is not currently powered on) that includes the usual plethora of laptops, gaming PCs (a Corsair One!), consoles, tablets, smart home devices, network storage, wireless security cameras, and multiple audio Chomecasts . My house is not particularly large - it’s a single story ranch style, roughly 1500 sqft but the lot is a good size around 8000 sq ft which presented some challenges with all of my previous networking wireless routers. Prior to the Orbi Wifi 6, I had three areas were problematic in terms of coverage; a random dead spot near the center of my living room, the backyard and in the driveway. While the dead spot was annoying, the latter two issues were problems because I tend to wander into the yard a lot when I’m on the phone and a lot of times as I’m leaving the house, I’m trying to get traffic updates via Google Maps before I commute in the morning. I was looking for a solution that would have better range yet be able to continue being able to provide a steady connection for everything inside the home also. The Orbi WiFi 6 package is pretty straightforward. From a hardware perspective, there is the base router, the satellite, 2 power adapters and an ethernet cable. I’m pretty well versed with router setups but decided to follow the instructions and download the Orbi app as recommended with the install package. The app requires the user to have a registered account with Netgear before one can proceed to the actual setup. For me personally, I had an existing Arlo account so it was not a big deal on my side. The setup process is very straight forward - the app prompts the user to scan the QR code on the product so it can jump to the correct setup process. The setup is then a guided series of steps between power cycling the modem, then hooking up the base router, followed by the satellite before prompting the user to finishing up and testing the setup by joining the default wifi network which has the network ID and password printed onto a removable band on the router. Once everything is up and going, the Orbi found a firmware update which then self updated. Final step was to choose to change the wireless network name and password so that made the transition between routers seamless for all the devices I had previously setup. I don’t think this is unique to the Orbi but I like the fact that both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands are under a single SSID so I don’t have to manually separate out my slower vs faster devices Though I didn’t test for straight throughput - I game and Steam downloads were as quick as a wired connection and ping times for online gaming weren’t a problem. All of the coverage issues that I had highlighted before were addressed. Multiple simultaneous streams around the house between Netflix and HDHomerun MPEG2 (ie very high bandwidth) was flawless. I talk tech with a lot of my friends and the consensus is that mesh wireless setups have tended to be more robust but prices have kept climbing and this is true of the Orbi WiFi 6 and this leads to the only caveat; the price. One pays for performance and that’s definitely true in this case where bleeding edge performance also has a bleeding edge price point. Would I recommend though? Yes. This is undoubtedly the best wireless router that I have owned so those looking for zero compromises, this is a good a place as any to start. After just 5 months of use I can say that this product is unreliable. After reaching 60 devices on my house now the network constantly reboots at random occasions. Stay away from this item.

Continue to have issues with signal strength from 30-40 ft from unit coupled with loose of signal during SKYPE meetings, intermittent dropped signals/loose of internet. This when charter modem shows 400-500-700-900mbps UL/20-30 UL.

Not ready for market yet. Even when the satellite is 10ft away and unobstructed, it looses connection. Download speeds via its wifi has been hitting 900mbps, but then 5 minutes later it says no connection. Streaming a video on my laptop while my iPhone 11 pro and my TV says there is no internet on the same network. Upon googling for help (since Netgear's team has ZERO training on how to troubleshoot the device), it seems that everyone is having the same issues. Restarted them 50+ times and no better performance

Love these, but customer support sucks. Gives you a short tech support time and then can’t find info on when trouble starts. I like them, but not as strong as my apple router was.

Purchased this router a year and a half ago. After a year of use it started dropping random devices from our home frequently. I reached out to Netgear support and -- after hours spent with support -- was informed that their one year warranty wouldn't cover any replacements for a defective product. To add onto that, Best Buy told me I would have to come into a store and pay for it to be fixed. In other words, neither Netgear nor Best Buy are willing to back one of the most expensive residential routers on the market. We wound up reverting back to our old Google wifi mesh system, which technically has slower speeds but is at least reliable. Don't be fooled by this trashy product. It will fail you conveniently just after the manufacturer warranty expires.
