I decided to upgrade my wifi since I am working from home and needed a stronger signal to reach my home office. I thought I researched my options well. I didn't want to give up my Apple Airport because I really hadn't had any issues since purchasing it almost 5 years ago. However with more devices and the need for a stronger signal I decided to purchase Netgear's Orbi System. It was a bit of a challenge to get it set up that first day. Eventually though it was successfully set up and running. The signal strength was great and I could easily run multiple devices without a problem. Leading up to my first 30 days and after I received an ongoing barrage of emails to sign up & pay for their security plan to keep my wifi safe. I never needed that before and didn't feel the need for that now. I didn't buy it. Then coming up on my 90 days there were more emails to purchase an ongoing support plan. Again, after 5 years problem free, I didn't see the point. However after my 90th day passed I got a notice to complete an update via their app. Shortly after installing that update, the Orbi system crashed. I tried the normal fixes and looked online to find a fix but nothing worked. I finally had to call in because the system would not restart. I was told since my 90 days just ended (we were talking days) that my hardware (which is covered for a year) was fine. My problem was that I needed a simple configuration done and he would be happy to transfer me to a tech agent to complete. He assured me that they'd have me up and running again in no time IF I PAY UP. I found the timing of all this very interesting and refused to pay up. He tried to offer me a $50 a 3 month plan and then I could get it fixed quickly and be good to go. I wasn't impressed! I asked what would happen at the end of that time frame? Would I get another convenient update sent again. He then offered me the annual plan or two year plan for over $200. I asked to speak with a customer support or customer relations representative and was told they don't have anyone. If I wanted to talk to someone, I needed to PAY UP! I thought Netgear was supposed to be a "quality" product, not an ongoing racket that was going to require me to continue to pay out in order to use the system I’d already paid for. I was wrong. Buyers BEWARE!! If you purchase a Netgear product, it doesn't just require the expensive upfront cost of equipment. It seems if you want to continue to use that equipment, hassle free, be prepared to PAY UP month after month and year after year!

Not as powerful as advertised, at least in my house. About 3000 square feet total & it doesn't reach the basement. Occasionally disconnects. When it works right its very good, especially for video to the TV

My system purchased in November 2016 came with an early version of firmware. No parental controls etc. Once I was prompted (twice) to perform firmware updates, I'm now at Router Firmware Version V1.4.0.18 the system is stable and I love it. My old extender WiFi had a separate log in and it prevented easy connection to other systems in the house that were on the other WiFi. With having just one WiFi connection throughout the house your portable device can access other systems throughout the house with no problems. If a later firmware version was already on the system I would have given it 5 stars for my needs

I was finding my old router had very limited range. This was definitely an upgrade and perfect for a large house with 2 stories. I keep one unit upstairs and one down.
