problematic from the outset
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this bundle (2 WIFI units) to provide better coverage in the house and an overall better experience since I have 6 or 8 connected devices to my wifi network. Overall, when it works, it works well, but I experience frequent drops of internet connectivity throughout the day. In calling support, I don't feel I received adequate support. Might take it back and try the google WIFI solution. I could go on, but my advice would be pick something else.

Orbi Review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I made the recent switch from an older linksys router which promised better range but unfortunately didn't deliver. I tried the range extenders as well but did not get much luck with that either. I finally came across the Orbi and wanted to give it a try. The setup was very straight forward and simple especially with the setup of the satellite which was basically plug and play once you have the main router setup. So far I am very happy with the signal strength and speed that this router delivers, the main push to really look into a solid router with range was my recent switch to a gigabit service and being told from the ISP that it was my old router that was causing the loss or diminished speed performance. I did notice a big bump up in speed after switching and also starting getting solid signal strengths in areas of the house where I was getting no signal at all before. The only down side for me was going through the firmware update, I did have to do a little google searching to figure it out but it is something I am use to and once I had the proper steps was fairly easy. However I could see this being an issue for anyone not very comfortable with tech or looking for a pure plug and play solution. Overall I am very satisfied with the Orbi and am fairly sure the firmware issue will get resolved with some future updates. I would recommend this product for anyone like me who has been trying to resolve speed and range issues with boosters, repeaters, and any other devices. The Orbi router and satellite solve the problem and work very well together, I really like the fact that I am not having to select the 2.4 or 5ghz ssid's when moving around the house.

No better than my existing router
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hoping for better speed and coverage, but it was actually slower than my existing Nighthawk and my Comcast modem/router.

Fast but, unreliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the speeds I was getting with this new setup but, I had to constantly reboot the system multiple times a day.

Not for use with FIOS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Netgear Orbi router and satellites had a difficult time staying conected with the FIOS system at my home.I tried to set it up via the instructions in the box, the instructions in the app I downloaded and on you tube. Nothing worked. The satellite was the issue. Once it connected there was some sort of a conflict with the FIOS modem. and after 10 to 30 minutes the connection would drop. The Geek squad couldn't get it to work either. So we changed brands and had no problems since.

Great connection, but bricked after a year.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this system and it worked great around the house. After 1 year of use, it auto updated the firmware and had a failure. It's now a brick, and when I reached out to NETGEAR for customer service, they require a warranty extension before any support will be given. This product line is expensive, but the customer service does not reflect.

6 months of garbage
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been the literal most infuriating WiFi router setup I’ve ever had. I’ve had TP-Link, Eero, Linksys, and more. From consumer to corporate environments, nothing has managed to be as inconsistent and unreliable as this mesh system. It is inferior in speeds both at the router and satellites. The satellite is LUCKY to have a consistent uptime of 3 days before having a random drop in connection. The router requires a reboot after random drops of its own 3-4 times a week. Even attempting to navigate to and get help with its 1 year warranty is impossible, they want you as stuck with this product as you can possibly be, regardless of your issues UNLESS you pay additional for their “fancy” support. Stick to another brand if you want to not have issues.

Unreliable
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.94 days after purchase the base station (router) died. and when I say dies I mean it would not connect to Ethernet and no longer had a wifi signal of any kind. Netgear customer support eventually offered an exchange but only after 67 minutes on hold and then no joke 41 minutes of "testing" which consisted of rebooting the router, holding the reset button and swapping cables and then repeating. This was an expensive mesh system and just isn't reliable. Pick a different brand.

I please do not buy this system
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is soul crushing like a Brett Favre interception in the playoffs (yes I’m going way back). It works for a little while just to get your hopes up then they do an untested update and it starts randomly blocking devices. I’ve been a netgear customer for 20+ years. This is the last Netgear device I buy. Don’t buy it. Buy two cans and some string first. You’ll have better luck. This is what I get for listening to a gu on the sales floor.

Not worth it...
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from googles wifi(1st Gen) it's a little bit better but not recommended or worth it. Connections are weak and I only get a good connection within 20ft. I'm literally 12 feet away and have three bars only. That's really bad. It's too bad I can't exchange for something else because I'm past the exchange or return period. Best Buys is awesome, but this products gets two thumbs down.

DO NOT BUY! NOT WORTH THE MONEY!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in IT and this is one of the worst routers I have used. Still no Guest Access available. Wi-Fi to all my devices keeps dropping, the satellite is 3 feet away and with line to line sight. Router slows down a lot, with just a few devices on it. What Netgear doesn't tell you is your devices don't automatically jump from on router to the next in their "mesh" setup is because our devices are not smart enough to switch. You have to turn the Wi-Fi off and on for the device to connect to the closest router/satellite. Not worth the money at all; I will admit it was an easy setup, most Netgear stuff is.

Great when it works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Orbi works great when it works. I have to reset the unit at least once a week. I have ATT Uverse DSL so it may have something do with my ISP.

Missing guest network - otherwise, very good
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: Once you get the firmware updated, the Orbi works as advertised, providing excellent WIFi speed and coverage. As WiFi has gone from a "nice to have" to a necessity, WiFi performance has become more and more critical. Fortunately, newer WiFi standards have proven to be faster, more robust, and more secure, untethering us all from our desks. A big headache for those with larger houses, or multi-level houses, has been WiFi coverage. Even with the latest 802.11ac routers, it's tough to provide clean, fast WiFi to three floors, or cover a large home or business. Range extenders have been one of the solutions to this problem in the past, but the extender itself consumes the base station's bandwidth, resulting in degraded performance for devices accessing the extender. (Basically, if you have a 100mbps router, the range extender will only be able to provide 50mbps to any clients that are connected to it, because it has to use half of its own connection speed to talk to the base station. The reality is actually even worse than that, since the range extension process isn't 100% efficient.) Enter the Netgear Orbi. Netgear adds a third radio to its base station and extender, allowing the creation of a full-bandwidth connection between them. So in the previous example, your 100mbps base station now has a separate 100mbps connection to the range extender that nothing else uses, allowing the extender to provide a 100mbps connection to the devices associated with it. Despite my doubts (I would have preferred a wired connection, at least as an option) this actually works very well. I have the 50/5mbps Time Warner Roadrunner option, the fastest speed available in my area. (I actually get about 62mbps down and 6mbps up.) With the Orbi setup, I was able to get the full speed of my internet connection everywhere in my house, period. The Orbi consists of two units - a base station and an extender. During initial setup, the extender establishes a connection with the base station; in my case, with the firmware that came with the devices, this didn't seem to go smoothly. Strangely, the Orbi basestation could tell that the extender was there, and send a firmware update to it, but the extender didn't show up as being "connected" to the base. Fortunately, the firmware update that was available when I set up my Orbi resolved that problem. The Orbi comes with a default SSID and password on a sticker on the base station. Setup is pretty automatic from there; when you first log into the base station from a web browser, it will have you set a new password for the web interface, and allow you to change the SSID and WiFI password. Note that the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios will always use the same SSID/password combination. Another nice feature of the Orbi is that it supports both "router" and "access point" configurations, so if you have an existing router that you want to continue using for whatever reason (I use an old desktop running pfsense, for example) the Orbi will seamlessly integrate with your existing wired network. Complaints are few and minor. It would be nice if it supported a wired option for the connection between the base station and the extender, as that would allow greater spacing between the two units (they use 5GHz for the extender-to-base connection, which is known to have range issues in some houses). It would also be nice to support a guest network with a separate SSID, so you don't have to give your super-secure super-secret password to your kids' friends when they want to get their iPod Touches online. (Netgear has said that a guest network feature will be coming in a future revision of the Orbi product.) Finally, I noticed that when you move from one floor to another, you may have to re-pair your device with the WiFi network to switch from the base station to the extender (or vice-versa) to get the best signal strength. While this is mostly an artifact of how WiFi devices handle associations, there are things that Netgear could do (like automatically de-pairing clients whose signals drop below a threshold) to improve the handoff between base and extender.

Works sometimes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this so I could extend the WiFi coverage to the garage to hook up my additional Nest iQ camera. Now my WiFi cuts off periodically on all our devices where as that never happened before. I do have the extended coverage that I was looking for to the outside camera but lt takes a long time to load up. I guess something is better than nothing because I need camera coverage in that area. Thats the only reason I have not returned it.
