Great Bandwidth and Range, not a Extender Wifi

My home is 2436 sqf, the modem (Motorola) and main router (Dlink) are located upstairs, I don't have the best of the Internet service, my BW is 15MB, so for my TV downstairs, which is the main one, to watch Netflix movies, and at the same time surfing the internet with other devices, was impossible. But once I replaced my old router with the netgear 3000 and its satellite, everything changed. First, it is very easy to set up, once you link both of them, I put the Satellite downstairs, and so far I havent had any disruption while I am streaming movies and at the same time my daughter is surfing with her IPAD, and I dont need to have different wifi configurations in my devices, because this unit is not an extender, with the satellite, it is a network optimizer, and there is an announcement that states you can add more sattelites, so I am planning to buy a second one to setup one in my backyard.

    Excellent product and EZ Setup

I seldom write a review but am very pleased both with Best Buy and the product. On Saturday I received an email from Best Buy about improving network connections and eliminating dead spots. My home is a T with three bedrooms at the top of the T. A TV room at the bottom and my office in the center. My problem was a dead spot in guest bedrooms at the end of each T.. (they happen to be in the bathrooms which may tell you something about where people use their mobile devices) I have tried several routers, most recently an Asus AC66 which is an excellent router but would not reach those bathrooms. When I opened the web site and begin looking this Orbi product had great reviews but was expensive. However the Best Buy site also offered a 15% discount if I traded in an old router which I had several. This was enough to convince me and I went into the store and bought the product. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Gave me the discount and asked me to tell them if it worked the way I wanted. I waited until Sunday morning to set it up because I am 75 and these things never set up as advertised but amazingly this one did. I was both shocked and pleased. I placed the main unit in my office and the single satellite in the middle bedroom. I have run speed tests at every location in my home (including the bathrooms) Speeds vary but all were the same as the office and in one case greater. In summary this is an excellent product and because of Best Buy's trade in program very competitively priced. I am exceptionally pleased and hopefully will receive no more guest complaints.

Had this for a long time. But started getting internet disconnects. So replaced with eero. Amazed by how much better this was. And oh so much easier to set up. I hesitated to make the switch but now so happy I did.

Orbi modem does a great job by itself. Satellite on the other hand doesnt do so hot. It is very spotty when connecting to devices in its vicinity. there are times I get full range, but most of the time, at best i get 2-3 mbps download. My internet is 200mbps.

Terrible - Doesn't work with Nest

The best thing I ever did with this system is sell it on eBay. Netgear barely supports this - It doesn't work with Nest - I have 6 Nest cams and it cannot figure out how to move the Nest cams to the satellites, which caused a ton of dropouts on my camera feeds. I tried to live with this for 3-months too many. Netgear never once responded to my support calls/emails, but the eero CEO wrote to me directly on Twitter and answered all of my questions. WHAT! So, that's what I bought, and eero Pro system, and I LOVE IT! Stay way from this junk!

At first glance, you might be afraid of it's retail sticker price. However, let me tell you that you will be glad that you got this Tri-Band Wifi system with its own satellite extender. Ease of use: For starters, I rarely see a product that is as easy to have up and running as this Netgear Orbi was. Out of the box, things may look complicated because of the various components to it. However, there is a trifold pamphlet with easy to follow instructions. It was set up within 7 minutes of unboxing. After all items were connected (one Wifi Router and One Satellite receiver, or extender), the instructions ask you to go to a website. I used my mobile phone, which was a plus for me because I didn't need to go for my computer. My mobile phone was enough to finish setup, which took an additional 3 minutes. Does it work as advertised? The product works as advertised. I had previously attempted to use a Linksys WiFi extender, which didn't work out so well for my needs. I have a two story home and my WiFi router is installed upstairs, where I game. I needed an extension to my kitchen area, downstairs, in what used to be a garage. There are plenty of think walls for signal to get to my kitchen. However, I installed the second satellite (serves as an extender) next to my kitchen area and it worked like a charm. The signal strength picked up with full WiFi bars and I was able to stream Netflix and all other video streaming services that I subscribe too. Overall, I am extremely happy to have received this product and I don't think I can ever go back to not having something like this around.

    Orbi is absolutely awesome!

I had an older Apple AirPort Extreme that was actually pretty great. It still works today and never had an issue. But it was n only and I wanted to upgrade. We had an office on the other side of the house on the second floor that has an iMac and even with just the apple router it did have a connection but it wasn't that great and it was slow. So I figured let's try to get something powerful enough to make that office have better signal and faster speeds. I tried the Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 and it's a very nice router. It's very fast and has tons of options I'll never even use. I figure if the apple got the whole house the Nighthawk should easily accomplish what I was looking for. I upgraded the modem to a CM600 and the along with the Nighthawk I got fast speeds across the whole house. Everything went up but the office was still slower although it went up from 15-20 to 50-60mbps. But like before the downstairs near the router was fast and it was up to 150-180. So I went out and bought the orbi and figured if it's just as good or worse I'll keep the Nighthawk but at least I can try it. I got it on sale and recycled my modem to get another 15% off and I had some rewards. Well the orbi was easy to set up just plug the router and satellite in and download the app to set up. Insanely easy, almost apple like and that's probably what initially impressed me. But I didn't buy the newer apple airport because I wanted something even better so this test was about speed. And the orbi is absolutely blazing fast. I get 200+ in the office and everywhere else in the house. No matter what corner of the second floor or basement it's always 200. No disconnects, no changing between networks it's seamless. There's also only one network name and the orbi does everything else automatically. I didn't really like how the Nighthawk had 3 separate wifi names but if it was better I would have kept it. But I returned it and I am keeping the orbi. It works perfectly. I haven't tried the velop but I installed the google wifi at my parents and that is also easy to set up and works really great. But the orbi is just way more powerful and much faster. And it's only 2 units vs the google wifi 3 units. I'm super happy and can't believe how excited I am over a router, but it covers the entire house and even the outside patio with blazing speeds. The app is a little weak on options but the important ones are there like settings, speed test and guest network. You can also use the netgear genie app for more advanced settings and options or the web interface for everything you could need. If your on the fence about a mesh type wifi system they are definitely the future and the Orbi is probably one of the best if not the best. If you have weak spots or dead spots this will fix them. You can add an additional satellite too if you have a bigger house. Either way the product is 5 stars and I can't recommend it enough.

I bought this to help with access to my very lousy ATT Internet. I could not get it installed either because it's not a good product or ATT wouldn't connect. The reason for the low review is I called customer support and after working unsuccessfully with me for about a half hour the techie I was talking with hung up on my. At that point I reboxed the product and took it back to Best Buy Iwho, by the way, have a very strict return policy. Don't wait to return stuff or you will lose).

Neither my AppleTVs nor my iPhones would work with these things. It's pretty well documented on their support site. They were waiting for a firmware update to fix. Sorry for $400 I'm not waiting on anything. My AirPort Extreme was better than these.

These regularly cut out. Our signal is strong coming into our home, but these randomly stop transmitting well (or at all at times). Incredibly frustrating. When they work, the work really well. Just not consistent.

The Orbi is terrible. It drops signals and doesn't extend our bandwidth enough to be useful when multiple people are working from home and doing school online. The worst part, though, is that the signal is dropped in the middle of working or doing school online and I have to unplug it and wait for it to fully reset. In the meantime, we need to drop to our regular network so what was the point of having the Orbi in the first place? I would return it if I could but we are beyond the return date. I spend countless hours online with Netgear support when I first purchased it and have to do that again to see if we can get some consistency.

Setup it up with no problems worked great for a couple of days until my PC was no longer able to download files or game off the internet. Apparently this has been a ongoing problem for almost a year, but Netgear has not been able to fix it. Needless to say I took the product back.
