Serious lag loading web pages. Sometimes takes up to 30 seconds to load, if they load at all. Netgear support page is full of people with similar problems. Should have done my homework before buying. Have reverted back to my old router, hoping Netgear comes up with a solution.

Orbi was very easy to setup. I updated to the latest firmware right away since it is a new product which usually means the kinks are still getting worked out. I set it up to run in Access Point (AP) mode since I already have an established wired router in my network. Admin / setup is fairly easy to use but some options can be a little hard to find. The instructions tout simple setup from smartphone or tablet but don't expect to find an app for that it just uses the same web interface that you would use with a laptop or desktop. I have a small house (less than 2,000 sq. ft.) and WiFi signal is strong throughout the entire house. Previous wifi device did not have full strength in all areas whereas the Orbi does. Had no problems placing the satellite or having it connect to the router base. The one issue that I have encountered is more of a nuisance than a problem. The Orbi units have an LED color ring around the top to indicate different status information. I have a strange condition with the router (main unit) pulsing a magenta color. There are no problems and everything is working great though. I have a support ticket open with Netgear who acknowledges that condition is abnormal, however, they have not been able to solve it yet.

    Netgear Orbi rocks

Orbi wifi system is awesome! Mesh network in my home allows me to get the best signal and speeds possible as I move around the house. It's especially useful for homes with gigabit internet service, as it really delivers top speeds. The signal is also incredibly strong everywhere I go, both inside and outside the house. Have great coverage of my 8000 sqft backyard. I highly recommend upgrading your home wifi network to Orbi! Latest technology that takes care of my previous issues of speed, coverage, blindspots and interference by microwave and dryer(don't ask me how, Orbi just WORKS!!) Easy to set up (10 min start to finish including new passwords, SSID and placement of satellite for Guest network). The Orbi app is also intuitve and i was able to reboot if needed (but haven't had the need yet) and also see if everything is connected. I have strong signal in my garage as well. Added 3 outdoor nest cams streaming 1080p video 24/7 over wifi, and it all works flawlessly. Have gotten speedtest results over wifi of over 600 mpbs. Incredible. And it's super nice having a combined network name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Very impressed with this system. Rock on Netgear!!!

WiFi constantly drops randomly and I work from home so this is a worst night mare. Spent week back and forth with net gear support trying all kinds of technical resolution to no avail. I passed the 14 day return window so I’m stuck with this unless net gear stops having me try new things and just send me a new one.

Has to be rebooted once a day or it looses Internet communication. The only available solution on the support page is to go through all the settings with a fine-comb and try different settings combination and hope you find what's causing the problem. Not something a regular user should have to do!

I bought this because all the reviews said it was the best mesh system. But after having it for a couple weeks and my WiFi constantly dropping or extremely slow, I had to return it and bought a Linksys Velop system instead. Even called tech support 2 times asking for help and still no luck. And good luck getting someone from tech support that speaks good English. The Linksys system works much better.

This is the worst wifi equipment I have ever purchased. Constantly drops signals and buffers all day long. My prior netgear nighthawk is much better. I only switched thinking that newer technology would just be better after 3-4 years with my old router which doesn't come with a satalite.

Two years ago I purchased this product. Yesterday I ended up replacing it. The replacement product has worked perfectly. The Netgear product never did work well. I strongly encourage buyers who want a good home network to consider a product other than the Orbi.

A great network solution to cover large homes20352

I have a very large home, the problem is the layout is very awkward. While the house is 3,000 sq ft, the total land area it covers is about 7,000 sq ft. The cable drop is in one corner of the house. If i put a router there, it does not reach the far corners. I set up another router as an access point in the center of the house. Even with that, the corners did not have decent Wi-Fi connection. Note that the ISP provided me with a cable modem/router. In order for me to connect anything to it, it must be configured as an access point, not a router. Otherwise i will get a double NAT or interfering networks. My two routers were Netgear R7000 AC1900 units, both highly regarded units. When i plugged the R7000 to the cable modem/router, it correctly identified it and configured the router as an access point. I decided to buy the three piece Orbi system as the floor layout was large and i knew that using two routers was not effective. Note that while the Orbi is advertised as a mesh system, it is really a Router with wireless extenders (A true mesh system utilizes all identical satellites that can communicate with each other). The Orbi primary unit is a router. The two satellites must connect to the primary unit, they cannot communicate between themselves. The big advantage about the Orbi is that it uses a dedicated four stream 5.0 GHz radio to communicate to the base unit. It also has another four band 5.0 GHz and 2.4 GHz band to broadcast the network. Normally, a Wi-Fi extender loses 50% of the data stream communicating to the base router. With its dedicated radio, the Orbi does not suffer from this problem. The Orbi was very easy to setup. I plugged the primary unit to the cable modem/router. After a couple of minutes the Orbi glowed white showing it is configured (incorrectly, more on this later). I then placed the satellites in their appropriate locations and powered them on. The satellites would glow red if it cannot communicate with the router, amber if it is in sub-optimal range and blue when connected with good signal. Once configured, all three units will use the same SSID and password. You connect to that network and you can roam around the house without issues. I now had full coverage throughout the house with 90-100% signal strength in all corners. I can stream music and videos to all my devices with no stuttering or buffering like I had earlier. Regarding the configuration. The Orbi configured itself as a router even though my earlier R7000 knew otherwise. You can tell if you have an issue when the Orbi has an IP address with 10.0.0.n... When configured correctly, it should be something like 192.168.1.n. i had to manually change the Orbi from a router to a access point which resolved the issue. i can strongly the Orbi for people who needs coverage in large homes. One slight issue with the Orbi. When you are between two nodes, it appears the Orbi sometimes cannot determine which satellite to connect you to. Another issue: The Orbi setup configured the router as a router even though it recognized that the Orbi was connected to a router. As mentioned earlier, this is generally considered to be a no-no. When I configured the Orbi as an access point, I could no longer log in to the Orbi router using the default URL. Knowing that the Orbi was in the same network as the internet router, I was able to guess the IP address of the Orbi and access it that way. Interestingly, while the recommended URL ORBIlogin.com did not work, the default Netgear URL of routerlogin.net did work okay. Pros: * Easy to setup * Excellent range and signal strength * Has three LAN ports (other mesh units don't have any or only one) * Can be expanded up to three satellites Cons: * Setup can be complicated if you have a ISP issued router. * No QoS features * Expensive * Only has three LAN ports on the router and four on the satellites... Very likely you need to buy a switch for more ports * Non-functional USB port (for future use whatever that means) * The satellites must be within range of the router which limits its placement. * Limited to a maximum of three connected satellites

The Net Gear Orbi is a first of its kind WiFi router for home use. Not only it provides blazing fast speeds but also provides those speeds reliably throughout the home. I live in a two story house and I had no trouble or signal issue anywhere in the house. The speeds are consistent and reliable. I play DOTA 2 a lot and was playing it over the wifi and had no issues, and my ping was constantly less than 25ms. Its super easy to setup and there are no glitches or long procedure to set it up. Also the router is extremely beautiful and you don’t have to hide it anywhere. It doesn’t have ugly antennas coming out of it and can be placed anywhere in the house. The set we received has one 'master' router and one 'satellite' unit. There's not much else in the box other than the power adapters, a flat Ethernet wire and a very brief 'Quick Start Guide' pamphlet. There are light rings at the top of both the devices which tell you optimal parings and the quick start guide tells you what color of light they should be. Overall a very solid product and I definitely would recommend it to everyone, for casual home users to hardcore gamers.

Almost 2 years to the day this thing has decided to go kaput. Initially, the base station was reading no internet while the computer hardwired to the base station still had access. Also, the internet was still accessible by hardwired and wifi connected devices to the satellite. After all else failed I attempted to initialize everything from scratch to no avail and now NOTHING works since I still can't access the base station for new device setup. For a $370-ish router, this is completely unacceptable.
