Only good if you have a tiny house
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The range just isn’t there. I live in a 1900 sq ft house and this router was a joke. It was hard to set up and I lost internet frequently

Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was good for the first couple of weeks. Now I cannot get into the app that runs the orbi. Even though I am connected to my Wi-Fi, it says I am not. Some things that use Wi-Fi work and some do not. I cannot fix anything because the app will not work. Now I am stuck with a pricey router that does not work.

Failed almost exactly after 1 year.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product worked great for one year, then satellite stopped functioning completely. Would not power on at all. Called NetGear support and they absolutely offered no help with a faulty hardware product that was 9 days out of warranty. Terrible way to back your products.

Customer support is nonexistent product fails
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To be blunt, move on to other options. Netgear has made some great routers, this is not one of them. The support is all offshore with a challenging understanding of basic English. The product was not ready for release and they have used their install base as testers. Don't spend your money here, get plume or google or eeros. You'll have a true mesh system and it will work.

It works effortlessly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had experience with other brands of routers and had nothing work so effortlessly and exactly as advertised. I live in a long, narrow house, the main unit is on the first floor in the back of the house and the satellite is on the second floor in the front of the house which gives me perfect signal strength anywhere in my house and tons of coverage around my house. With all that ... I'm completely blown away by the speed. I can have a device plugged in directly to the modem, on wifi or ethernet connection to the satellite and they all have the same speed. I highly recommend Orbi to anyone!

Simplified my home Wi-fi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: One network SSID for everything, works well. Dedicated 4x4 Backhaul MU-MIMO from Satellite(s) to Router. This feature has good range and penetration. Best feature so far. If you cannot wire cat6 around the house or able to use Powerline AV2 to its full potential, this is the next best thing I have tried. MU-MIMO to MU-MIMO clients that seems to work when multiple of them are accessing the network for data intensive needs. Cons: As of launch and very first firmware upgrade, no use for the USB2.0 ports on Router or Satellite. USB 2.0 ports, why oh why not USB 3.0? Not sold that MU-MIMO has matured enough to be a game changer yet. Thoughts: I think it compares favorably with throughput to my about 2 year old R8000 Nighthawk and recent Linksys EA9500, even without the third "outward facing" 5 Ghz band. Connected to Orbi and its satellite right now are 5 smartphones, 3 laptops, 1 desktop, 5 game consoles, home automation hub, 3 TV devices (Chromecast, android TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, TV Antenna recording/distribution device, and 4 tablets. I didn't try to stream video on all of them at once, but did do Netflix on three devices, a recorded TV show on a fourth device, and YouTube on a laptop for a stress test. MU-MIMO might be helping, as we have at least 4 devices that can use it, and I did see some benefit to the Linksys EA9500 that could do MU-MIMO that the Orbi just replaced. I am testing a Orbi I received to review from Best Buy and color me impressed. My house is big, two levels, but 1960 construction, wiring is older in most places (no ground wiring), powerline adapters only work well to/from a few select outlets. Walls, Floors and a 3 Chimney-wide brick wall directly in the middle of the house from basement through the roof do a decent job of killing Wi-Fi. I went from a Nighthawk R8000 with 2 higher end extenders that did okay but with signal loss/unreliability in some areas/in general to a Linksys EA9500 recently with its buddy range extender so you could do seamless roaming, that really had about the same level of effectiveness. I added a few powerline adapters where I could to make things better, but had to put APs on them because their location to get a good powerline signal was not ideal for the devices I was trying to connect with them. The things that I think really hurt the older setups was one, just the Wi-Fi killing environment, and two, way too many wireless signals flying around with multiple extenders and access points off of powerline adapters. The Orbi definitely helps with number two. Like always, time will tell. Router has 3 Ethernet ports available for clients, Satellite has 4. My Orbi Router and Satellite placement is kind of typical of Netgear's best use for this product, Router attached to Modem on one edge of the house, top level, Satellite located in the middle of the house, top level, near edge of Wi-Fi killing Chimney.

Repackaged used product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looked fine in the box and all sealed, but 40 days later when I had an issue, I realized the router password had been reset, and when I went to get support, Netgear says it has already been registered....so I can't get support. BestBuy response is to give me an 800 number for Netgear in the hopes I can work something out with them. Probably my last BestBuy purchase.

Horrible I have to keep resetting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item was sold to me by the associate who stated it was the best thing for reliable wifi service. I've had it a month and have had to reset it five times. There was no manual with it and I still have no idea how to trouble shoot it. Would not recommend it for anyone who is not a computer tech

Netgear router hidden in a nice piece of artwork
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was an ease, fairly easy to do. Looks like a vase, I like the use of the lights around the ring to be able to see connections/disconnections. The satellite is a bit of a puzzle to me though. The satellite has 4 Ethernet connections, but unless you need an extender that is going to be near something that needs ehternet connections. Most of the newer routers have an 8 port ethernet connection on the the main router, but its a nice piece of artwork at lease. The range is great though. I have a 3000 sq ft home and with both connected I can go to the end of my driveway with no problem. Overall it's a nice system that will fit in with nice range and connections in separate area's.

Network Drops - Returned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to have a Mesh system for my house to deal with a long and narrow old house where coverage from my existing router was not good enough. Cool looking routers. The promise of not splitting your bandwidth like a lot of extenders. Fairly simple setup. Network connections dropped. And dropped. And dropped. Returned.

Sittin’ pretty!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is garbage along with garbage support. Not even compatible with their own Nighthawk modems. Looks like an air freshener that pulses pretty lights if you need a $200 night light. I’m done with Orbi

Easy to set up, and works great!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for something that is very easy to set up, and will cover your home with fast Wi-Fi...definitely take a good look at the Netgear Orbi! Before we got this, we had another very expensive router from a different manufacturer, as well as one of those little wi-fi extender boxes. It extended the wi-fi better than without it, but it was still not as fast as it should be. We decided to give these a try, and could not be happier! They were VERY simple to set up. You really just plug in the router to your modem with the supplied ethernet cable. Then plug in the satellite box in a different area of your house and they talk to each other and get themselves set up. Then you go to a website and do a few more basic setup steps and you are good to go! If you want to dig into the more advanced settings you can, but if you dont know how or dont want to...there is no need. It will work great right out of the box! We have Charter high speed internet and get roughly 65 Mbps. When using our old system, we were getting about 40-45 Mbps when we werent close to the router. With the Orbi system, pretty much anywhere you go in the house you can now get between 55-65 Mbps without any problem. Even out on our back deck we can still get really fast speeds that we weren't able to get before. Even when the house is full of kids on their phones and tablets and we are streaming Netflix movies at the same time..the speed is still there and keeps everything going. Another thing I love about this system, is that there are ethernet ports on the satellite box as well. So you can send the wi-fi to the satellite box and then plug in an older laptop or something that doesn't have wi-fi to the ethernet connections on the back. I couldn't be happier with this system! ...it is a little bit on the pricy side, but if simplicity and speed is what you want, this is definitely worth every penny!!

Very Easy Setup and Great Signal
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used many wi-fi base system/repeaters over the years. All have come a long way in being easy to setup and use but the Netgear Orbi has taken this to the next level. These stations were built to work together out of the box and do a great job of providing excellent coverage over a wide area. The dedicated signal for the two transmitter connection provides the best configuration to the devices you want to connect. I experienced excellent speeds across a variety of devices (laptops, tablets, phones). If you want an easy to use and manage system with excellent results, this is a great option.

Do NOT BUY this router!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unless you have time to spend min 1 hour every other month with tech support don't purchase. When the router works it is nice, but it stops working quite frequently. At least 5 tech support calls in as many months. Been on the phone now for 2 hours and they cant get it working, now hopefully a replacement will come and start all over again.

Beautiful to look at but a work in progress.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing you will notice when you unpack the unit(s) is that this may be one of the most attractive APs on the market. Bucking the current trend of arachnid-like, alien-looking boxes sprouting multiple antenna like appendages, the ORBI is sleek and unassuming in appearance. It took a firmware update and a couple of reboots to get the units up and running but after that the thing is pretty simple to administer. Echoing other's comments here I was surprised at the lack of a Public Network out of the box. Also, if you try to test connectivity with the base and satellite units sitting too close together you may discover that your client is continuously bouncing from unit to unit with brief but discernible drops in connectivity. We work with enterprise grade wireless APs that do seamless roaming but these cost MUCH more that the ORBI. In summary - the ORBI delivers on its promise to easily extend the reach of your WiFi in a much more elegant manner than other vendor's offerings and does it while looking GOOD!
