Amazing Wi-Fi Speeds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very tech savvy and have gone through countless wireless routers over the past few years, including Wi-Fi Extenders. None of them have been able to provide reliable, high-speed internet throughout my entire house, until now. I initially had 100mbps fiber, and Orbi was able to provide 95mbps+ throughout my entire 4 story town home (~2800 sq feet). I upgraded to gigabit fiber, and now I consistently get 300mbps Wi-Fi. I would recommend this product to anyone. It's a little pricey, but it's worth it. I've gone through a number of routers/extenders in the past, only to be repeatedly disappointed.

Great when it works, terrible reliability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router hoping it would solve my slow internet speeds. I found the range and speed of the product excellent when it worked. I was getting download speeds over 100 mbps (I pay for 100 mbps). The problem with this router is it consistently drops internet connection. I have had to perform daily power cycles on my router and modem to get the internet connection back. Sometimes the internet does not come back with a power cycle. If I bypass the router and plug the modem directly into my computer I do not have any problems. If i plug the modem into my old router the internet still works (but my old router was slow which is why I wanted to get rid of it). It has to be a problem with the router at this point. I have been on the phone with netgear support multiple days (have even exchanged the first unit for another orbi unit). Now the product is 2 weeks after the 2 week return period and I am stuck with a $400 router that works occasionally. Like I said when it works, I love this router, but the problem is it drops internet all of the time. Netgear support is not very helpful and best buy will no longer let me return the item. I have had the product for less than a month and am stuck with it. You would think when you spend $400 on a router it would be reliable. Instead I get to call netgear support and spend an hour on the phone with them daily for no solution. Now they want me to try a beta software to see if that fixes the issues I am having. I hope it can resolve the issues but it is not exactly ideal to pay $400 for a router and have to try out a beta firmware. If I could do it again, I would pick a different product.

Great Product, great speeds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the Orbi's are big, don't expect them to be hidden anywhere. Performance wise they are great. My only suggestion is that when you set them up do it from a desktop PC. This will make the setup easy and quick. Do definately upgrade the firmware before you start using the Orbi fulltime. It seems to make the Orbi just snappier and overall more stable. I don't knock Netgear for this, firmware upgrades are a neccessity. My setup is the Orbi Router is in my basement anmd the Orbi satelite is on our 2nd floor in opposite corner of house. The signal is strong throughout the house.

Speed and simplicity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great with my Ring wireless cameras, I have a huge house and my system was able to connect right away when I turn these things on. One thing I don't like is having to pay antivirus and malware protection. That should be free! Cost $100 a year which is pretty pricey. Asus routers give you a lifetime protection at no extra cost.

Best home wifi router on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never write reviews, but this product (while expensive) did exactly as advertised. Fast WIFI everywhere in the house at the speed I pay for from Comcast and a fairly easy setup. I upgraded the firmware manually after the initial setup (Satellite must be done first) with the instructions from the website. Satellite upgraded easily, router a little clunky as it disconnected me from WIFI and I thought it failed, but it did come back online fairly quickly. I believe the regular update is now working through the setup tool. Best new product I have seen in years...

Very Happy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just used this to replace a Netgear router and extender. Placed them in the same location that the old ones were. Used the app to configure. WiFi had always been the weak link on our broadband, maxing out at 20mbps. But no more! With the Orbi, we are getting the full 200+ from our ISP throughout our 3 story house and back patio. I'm dispointed the USB port doesn't (and apparently won't ever) support a hard drive, but can't ding it too bad given how well it is doing its primary job and how easy the setup was.

Setup not easy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The installation initially progressed well and was nearly complete within 10 minutes, which is outstanding. However, once I changed the name from the default SSID to my preferred name (which matched the name I used prior to purchasing the Orbi), I lost connection and the Orbi mobile app that was guiding me through the setup hung on my IOS device. While I was dialing Netgear customer support, I tried setting up using my wife's Android Galaxy S9 in parallel and was able to update the firmware for the router through via the settings on her phone. Once those updates completed, the connection was fully restored to all devices and the Orbi app progressed through the setup completely. The tech support rep was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable and confirmed my setup was working properly, and my call was late on a Friday night....very good support from Netgear under these circumstances. However, the tech support phone number is buried on the netgear site...I found it via Google. I am extremely disappointed in the Orbi setup process -- it did not match what I have seen in reviews. It is difficult to determine what was causing my problem, but the setup should work on an IOS device (I have a 6s...not the latest and greatest but certainly not old) and even though it worked on the S9, why would the average person have enough knowledge to go into the router settings on the device to update the firmware? Not to mention, the user has to think of this troubleshooting step on his/her own -- the Orbi app should have more effective troubleshooting steps to guide the user through instead of what it did to me, which was continuously tell me the router wasn't found (even though it was found and working during prior steps) and looped me back to instructions to unplug the router and ethernet cables over and over. And even if troubleshooting fails, the app should advise me to try using a different device or connect me with support. Also, I was unable to find anywhere where it says that the Blue light on the satellite unit goes off after a few minutes, even if the connection is strong with the router. This can be very confusing during setup! Thankfully, the support rep informed me this is to be expected. NETGEAR TEAM: please help future customers by reading my experience!

Couldn't get it to work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First let me say this is an awesome product, just didn't work for me. I think my cable provider is the reason I couldn't get it to work for me. My provider uses a modem and a router in order for my services to work. This system allows you to connect through your modem and use the included the router and than the satellite in another part of your home to be able to extend wifi. I love the concept unfortunately I could not dis connect my system to use it. I am considering switching providers so I can ultize this more efficiently. My wifi in some areas of my home isn't as strong I believe this will help with that. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because I wasn't able to use it how it needs to be used, once I do I will submit another review.

Exactly as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product to replace an older wifi system that was damaged in a recent move. This system went in easily and I was up and running within 15 minutes. I pay for 450mbit internet service, so the first thing I did once the network was up was test the speed and from my cell phone, across the wifi. I was able to consistently hit 460+ mbit using several different sites as my testing showing that the speed was only being limted by my internet connection and not the wifi. Later, after I brought my SAN up, I tossed 12gb across the network, and while I did not time it, it flew faster than any wifi I have used previously. My home is a ranch with a finished basement. I have one Orbi in the basement, and one on the first floor and despite the concrete walls and plaster ceilings, there are no dead or even weak spots anywhere inside the house. I got the unit on sale, but even on sale, it is expensive but I guess it is a case of "you get what you pay for." When I bought this I was comparing it against Linksys' product and ultimately decided on this one because of the 4 LAN ports on each Orbi and the greater ability to customize the network settings. I have not tried any of its parental controls yet. Those are essentially just Disney's service so everything you may have read about Disney's Circle product will apply here.

Not as good as everyone says ....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a netgear nighthawk x6 router but was having trouble with the signal reaching the far points in my three story apartment. So, after hearing the hype about mesh routers, I decided to purchase the Netgear Orbi. The first thing that seemed odd was that this $400 ultra fast top of the line router came with the same CAT 5e cable shipped with all netgear products. And from there it went downhill. pros: 1. Nice design that it is more of an art object than a tech instrument - so I was able to place it on my fireplace mantle. 2. The setup was pretty simple but then again, so is the device itself. 3. The Orbi web interface was good - nothing special but slightly improved from what I was used to. Same with the app. Cons: 1. Let me list the CAT 5e patch cable here too. I mean cummon .. really? Netgear couldn't throw in a CAT 7 cable for $400? 2. The USB ports (on on each node) were onlyUSB 2.0 and were for all intent and purposes - useless. Nothing that I plugged into them would work. 3. Fortunately I already had a plethora of switches so I wasn't bothered too much by the fact that it had just a few ethernet ports on each node. 4. I was able to log onto the satellite node and did so regularly. Why? Well I wanted to see what was connected to it and how it was helping to improve the wifi signal. Much to my surprise nothing but what I had hard wired to it ever connected regularly. And there is no way to configure devices to choose either of the nodes. 5. Last night we were watching a movie and for the first time in many years my TV buffered almost continuously. And my TV was hard-wired into the router node. 6. Similarly, my WD Cloud NAS was constantly dropping its connection even though it too was hard wired into the router node. 7. I did some random testing and while the functionality of devices in the far reaches of my apartment improved slightly, I frequently saw that my Ring Video Doorbell (the farthest device) was at 35% signal 8. The iOS app for Orbi was horrible. So I used the regular genie app when accessing the system on my iPhone. Otherwise I used the web interface. 9.. Overall I saw only random slight improvements in my wifi network signal and operation. So why do I need a $400 router for that? I don't. I boxed it back up and took it back to Best Buy and got a $459 refund back on my Visa card. I thought about getting the Linksys Velop or Eero but decided that maybe the technology needed a little more time to get better developed so that when I make another expensive leap into the latest router, that it really has a lot to offer me.and this one was more grief than anything.

Nice idea, but problematic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like this new Orbi router. The components are nice looking, and I liked the idea that it has a satellite router that has the same password as the primary router, because we live in a 2-story house with a back porch and want to use our Wi-Fi devices all over. However, there have been “bugs” in this system from day one. Initially, it seemed that everything was okay. I was able to install the primary and satellite router in a few minutes and begin using the Wi-Fi for my iMac desktop and my iPad and iPhone. However, when I went to use our Dell desktop, it could not connect to the Orbi. Further, the Orbi signal kept dropping out, and I repeatedly have had to go through the process of selecting the Orbi router (instead of my next door neighbor’s guest Wi-Fi, which my devices have no problem detecting). In the week since obtaining the Orbi, I have exchanged several emails and phone calls with NETGEAR’s support department (the folks there have been pleasant and responsive). Sadly, the problems remain no matter how many times and ways we reconfigure the channels and other settings. Our Dell desktop is now able to get the Orbi signal, but every time I am off all my devices long enough for them to “go to sleep,” when I return to any of them I again have to select the Orbi router instead of my next door neighbor’s guest Wi-Fi, which my devices still have no problem detecting. I will give the Orbi a few more days of effort, then I will have to go back to my (other brand) router so that I can get my work done.

GAME CHANGER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seriously STOP READING THESE REVIEWS AND BUY ONE BEFORE THEY SELL OUT!! DO NOT WAIT FOR THE GOOGLE WIFI AND BUY THIS AS IT IS WAAAAY BETTER. The Orbi gives you 4 Ethernet ports for hard wire capability as opposed to 1 for Google Wifi. I pay for 250MB internet service and for the first time I get about 240+MB everywhere I am at home. OH AND DID I SAY NO BUFFERING EVER?! BUY THIS NOW!!

Review after seasoning
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this now for almost two years. Works perfectly. Had some issues with Arlo doorbell that were difficulties with the Arlo device but the Netgear support people helped me through it even though it wasn't their equipment's issue. Very happy.
