Orbi RBK 50 is great for two story homes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hooked this up my self. Took me about 20 minutes to get this set up. I have the router upstairs and the satellite down stairs. My house is 2800 sqf....The router upstairs covers everything upstairs and the satellite covers everything down stairs with a strong signal. I have 14 devices hooked up to the Orbi. I have wireless security cameras, Firesticks, Laptops, printer, smart tv's and cell phones. This Orbi don't skip a beat.

Awesome coverage and speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before Orbi I tried a wifi over coax adapter as well as a nighthawk r7000 to get a solid wifi connection over my 2500 square foot house. The wifi over coax adapter gave me decent speed (100mbs close to the adapter and router), but devices didn't seamlessly handoff between the router and adapter. The nighthawk didn't give good speed at the opposite end of the house as my router (35mps). Enter Orbi. I get 200mbs (my actual ISP limit) everywhere in my house now, with two units. Very satisfied. Pricey for sure but it works.

Short on features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Orbi is far less capable than my older less expensive NetGear routers. I expected to be able to setup MAC filtering, logon hour restrictions for my kids and I really want to see a DNS filtering added to these things as a standard feature. They wanted to sell me some kind of Disney add-on to be able to block web domains which is kind of offensive. I was disappointed in this product - feature for price is not what I expected

Junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 2 nighthawk's and an extender in a 2 story 2900sqft home. The second nighthawk was hard wired and even with all of those top notch routers and exnteder, my wifi coverage was poor not to mention an absurd amount of SSID's. I wanted a mesh network since they began showing up at residential price ranges a couple years ago and finally pulled the trigger. This is not a true mesh network but with all of the positive reviews online and testing I figued it was a safe bet, I should of known better. Regardless of tech, I went from 3 wifi points to 2 and my coverage actually got worse, also some of my devices refused to connect no matter what I tried. I had to leave a nighthawk running for those devices! I returned this and bought Google Wifi and WOW what a difference. I picked up an extra puck to make a total of 4 and I get AT LEAST 100down 100up across my entire house. Two upstairs, two downstairs, one hardwired to ethernet for backhaul (it didn't need it but it did improve speeds from about 170Mbps, 5ft from the puck to about 230Mbps which is what the primary point gives at 5ft).

Long time NETGEAR fan disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always recommend and use Netgear for myself and customers. As at IT Pro I have found the ease of setup and performance to be well. I recently replaced my Orbi RBK50 (kit) with the new V2 kit due to upgrading my internet to Gigablast. The V1 kit served me well but after upgrading I could only get 450Mbs through the Orbi even on the wire. After replacing it I had a similar experience of getting lest than half. Additionally continued to get drops and the satellites would not stay connected and would switch to magenta. I had to reboot the main Orbi several times a day. When I first setup the orbi and satellite I had trouble getting the satellite to connect. What worked was plugging it in via wire first to get them to sync. It wasn't synced out of box like I have been used to in the past. Things I tried Downgraded Firmware - No Change Reset all units to Factory - No Change Moved Units closer - No Change I will have a hard time recommending the Orbi system from this point on.

Not so easy to set up Ethernet Backhaul
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a lot of difficulties setting up the Ethernet Backhaul (Connecting the satellite with ethernet cable rather than wireless). If you want a backhaul don't rely on the app for latest firmware confirmation. You have to go to the website and manually download and install V2.1.1.16; first to the satellite and then to the router. It was a lot of work to figure this out, but now that it is up and running, it's working great. Much better than my previous WiFi set up.

Terrible router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was going to originally buy the Google WiFi system, but after reading the reviews for both decided to go for this. Got home, got it installed (process was quick), upgraded the firmware, and was up and running. The speed of the satellite unit was great. I had an WD Network drive plugged into it and was able to move 10 GB of data rather quickly. However that is as far as my enjoyment went. From that moment on and for the next 24 hours I kept having issues with the connection being dropped on both the base unit and the satellite. The satellite unit keep also getting disconnected. I reset the units, installed again and had the same issue. Did some research and turns out this is a common issue that Netgear has yet to solve. I returned the next day and purchased the Linksys Velop system. So far I love it

East Set-up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was very easy for a non technical person like myself. I wish the Orbi app contained all of detailed set-up options like going through the Orbi login site. The need to use the Orbi app, Netgear genie app and the Orbi login to configure and monitor it cumbersome. Overall great product and improved our home connection tremendously vs our combo modem/wireless router.

3 - RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX< could care less if 5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right out of the box, not even configured and I WILL NOT give this any higher than a THREE!!! It they work PERFECTLY, it stays at 3, if not it goes down. I DO NOT want to configure with a cell phone, I'm a pro IT guy, I work on a real computer, not a toy. I DO NOT want to be FORCED to register with netgear to configure MY ROUTER. And I need to configure this BEFORE plugging it in, ie, wirelessly - and - YOU CANNOT COMPLETE CONFIGURATION IF IT IS NOT ONLINE WITH YOUR MODEM!! HOW DUMB!! What if this is INTRANET and not internet and NO MODEM, NO NOTHING but wireless with a wired "something" to configure later. Just like everyone else - it's all about MARKETING and gathering email addresses and contact info - and NOT about technical expertise!!!

Excellent coverage / Speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking at google wifi and never in stock so read reviews on this and sounded good. Tried and works great. Excellent coverage over house (2500sqft). Speeds hardly drop at all. Have 65MB wired to router and downstairs still have 60MB. Awesome. Now if only charter would up there speeds :)

Satellite Non-Functional
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent over 3 hours trying various settings suggested by Netgear & it's online forum and could never get the satellite to operate as intended. As soon as the satellite links up to the main base, the wifi in the satellite area would drop to almost zero (and I have 1gig service). Unplug the satellite and the main base would function rather well--almost well enough that I contemplated using just it. But come on . . . I spent good money to have two, so back to Best Buy it goes. What's more disturbing is that this has been an issue for quite some time within the product line yet no one has an answer. Is it the wireless network from Bose interfering???

Excellent boost!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded from a NetGear. Had to have more wifi power with an addition and a new TV system. Works well. Adds more power. Works just as well as the NetGear with just more strength.
