    Will Not Connect

Horrible setup process that results in zero connectivity. After an hour trying to establish WiFi connection we contacted IT support. After 20 minutes all they can say is that our internet provider is at fault and to reach out to them. Literally plugged in our old router and connection works 100%. Tried explaining this to the Rep but she insisted it’s a provider error and to contact them. Our old router works fine, just wanted more range to reach downstairs. Just exchanged it for Google WiFi and worked instantly.

    Great!, AT FIRST...

I guess I should start by saying I should have gotten the Geek Squad protection.. They didn't offer and I didn't ask. Anyway, At first this router worked beautifully. The setup was nice and easy and all my devices instantly connected. Now, after 4 weeks my router just disconnects, even my console that is hardwired. After a few minutes everything will reconnect. This will happen every 15 - 20 minutes. I called Netgear, and of course they tried their best to help but they cannot find resolution. I'll keep trying to fix this, but buyers beware... The longevity of (MY ITEM) has not lasted and I hope that you have better luck than me. (Or you have gotten the Geek Squad protection)... I would look into other companies such as Google.

Not for houses with plaster walls

I am so disappointed in this system. Our house is 21000 sq feet and was built in 1939 with plaster walls. I replaced our Apple router which had one booster with this system. After over a month of trying to rebalance the towers, I 'm convinced that it's hopeless. I just measured 6 down with 3 up with a tower literally 2 feet from the door, and 48 down with 12 up when I move the unit to the door. I've had Geek Squad come out to troubleshoot, and they couldn't do any better. And, of course, it's too late to return the whole thing. This is hugely disappointing.

OMG - I hate this thing

I thought that the ORBI system was working fine for a couple of months until a month ago when I noticed only 1 router on the netGeni. So I began to try and make the satellite work and have been able to accomplish nothing. The Router itself works fine, but the satellite plan is worthless. Save your money and purchase a good router. Note, the literature indicates that you should sync the satellite in opposite corners of the house - forget it; initial sync must have both in the same room and then the satellite may work when you relocate it more than 6 feet from the router. One other thing - never locate either unit in a bedroom unless you need a blinking night light.

    Didn't work

I had multiple problems setting this up and getting connected. After the first attempt, I was unable to log into the configuration page - it kept telling me that I needed to be connected via wifi (even though it was). The entire experience was beyond frustration.. Now I can proudly say that I USED to own one. Returned to Best Buy and will continue to look for a whole-house wifi solution - one that works.

    A waste of money

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It only worked for 7 months and not that great before. I have a 3000 sq foot house and it did not provide good coverage even with 2 satellites. Today, my speed test was 48 with wifi and 438 with the modem connected to my computer. Customer service has to be paid for outside of 90 days so I'm not wasting any more money with Netgear and have to search for a new system that will work. Orbi is garbage.

    Ineffective and misrepresented product

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product is a fraud. This might work as a router but with "satellites" - it is NOT a mesh network. Be warned - There is little to any viable support - go online to user support groups and be warned before you waste your money. Firmware updates can brick your satellites - then you have to reinstall old software and update in a certain order to get functionality.

    Really ?? These are a PIA !

I am returning these after 5 days of torture . I am going to run point to point 80' from my Netgear router to my Smart TVs instead and save about $275 and a boat load of head aches. They are erratic at best , TV's constantly are not connected to wifi signal, signal drops, units drop communications amongst themselves,,,absolute and utter garbage !

    Unreliable, regularly loses connections

Purchased as a replacement/upgrade for an Apple Airport Extreme. It regularly freezes up and drops connections with devices (e.g. printer), requiring a reset. Avoid if possible

Worked well for 12 months, then not so much

Seemed to work fine for 12 months, then started dropping out intermittently. Happened for several days, Tried everything to fix, no dice. And it’s out of warrently. Found many reviews with similar issues. Bought another mesh router and it works great so far. Given that I at least know it was the Orbi that was the problem.

Satellite OOC <2 months. Won't honor warranty

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After wasting 7 days with tech support, satellite was deemed broke, which I knew on day one when, and why, I contacted them. To add further insult to injury, if not purchased from "authorized" reseller, they will not cover under warranty. Even if brand new, unopened, unregistered. Without the satellite, signal isn't enough for my home. Forced to find another mesh system. No more Netgear for me.

Single worst router I've ever purchased

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'd caution anyone considering purchasing this to go to the Netgear online Orbi forum and take a look a tthe view count on the topics. I think you'll find that those having "disconnect" in the subject get thousands and thousand of views. It is an expensive router with a short support window. I've had mine for a year, Netgear support replaced it due to issues, and my family has and nothing but problems with its random disconnects. Netgear continues to try to make it work but so far unsuccessful.

trying to do a firmware update, two months past year of support, we have run the update about 8 times and it never works, not able to chat or ask questions without paying more money... can't update with computer because it doesn't support Mac only Windows trying to update through app is horrible, so far wasted about 45 minutes trying to run the same update.... DO NOT BUY... WASTES YOUR TIME

    Drops internet connection

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have AT&T internet and this unit has issues with internet dropping. Even worse. I set it up in AP mode and my gaming system connects directly to the AT&T router. When this device starts having issues, it even disrupts communication on my gaming system that isn't even connected to the device. It is sending so much garbage up the line it causes the AT&T router to drop it's connection to the internet. This is a POJ!

    Dropped Connections Constantly

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Similar to other users I constantly lose my connection on a laptop that is less that 20ft away from the unit. I see that this is a common issue, Netgear user forums are full of this and no real resolution. About 7% of BestBuy's user reviews are negative for this issue. Obviously there is a bug and Netgear just keeps selling this piece of junk.

    Poor Design. Do Not Buy

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

DO NOT BUY. You will spend more time working on this than browsing the internet. This unit disconnects devices on a daily basis. Whether hard wired or wireless my devices have difficulty keeping a connection. Usually a router reboot will solve the issue, but one shouldn't have to reboot daily.

Absolutely a waste of money. My son and I took hours trying to get Orbi to work. We finally got it to work. About a month later it stopped working and we again spent hours trying to get it to work. It never did. I already threw the box away so I couldn’t take it back. It’s definitely not easy to use!

Don't waste your time or money on this junk. Spent $400 on this and if you like internet for 5 minutes then it disappears you'll love this product. Spent all day and night resetting it and talking to support for over an hour just to be told you need to tsk this product back. What a joke. Don't waste your time or money. Trust me you'll thank me..
