Ok for the convenience if you don't want to or if you can't run Ethernet, but speeds from the basement to the first floor are less than a slow WiFi connection would be. Super easy to set-up and use; literally plug-and-play.

Very impressed with these. I basically plugged them into two outlets randomly, they connected and I was able to move data. I got these to connect a switch in my office where I test devices to my router downstairs where the CAT6 for the Internet comes in. These have been stable, and show an improvement over a wireless connection. They do block both outlets on a duplx outlet, but the outlet on the device makes up for that.

Another Option vs Wifi Ext or Running Ethernet

These use the existing wiring of your home as opposed to a Wi-Fi signal. Bought them based on a recommendation by an Amazon Smart Home Rep who setup my house = "other than running Ethernet cables directly to your devices from the router these are the best option for online gaming". My kids are gaming online simultaneously (all the time it seems) with ~0 to ~10 ping rate since we installed these powerline adapters - so they seem to be performing as expected.
