Too much CPU usage by the driver

I like NETGEAR equipment and will continue to buy their products. I have several switches and APs by NETGEAR, BUT! This USB WiFi device uses too much computer CPU. I think their driver software needs some improvement. Buy the Cisco/LinkSys dual band device instead; I did.

Installed this product 25 feet away from my netgear wireless route. It never receved more than 2 bars of signal on the 5ghz range but recieved all 5 bars on the 2ghz range. While I would not expect the same reception for the two, I would expect it to pickup more of a signal than that considering how close to the it was located. It worked fine for about 8 months but then the data to this machine slowed down to .19 mbs download and .07mbs upload. An ipad at the same location would pickup 6mbs download and 2.3mbs upload. Running a cable to the router increased the spead to 31mbs download and 11mbs upload. I uninstalled their driver, restarted the machine and reinstalled their driver just in case an update had occured and caused the issue. Same results. This decrease in speed makes the computer all but useless for anything requirng the internet or local network. A call into netgear support (India) resulted in nothing but frustration. They want to sell you a support agreement for $200 a year and will not help with the product. I was told it was obviously a software issue and that support expired after 90 days. How do they know? they have no diagnostic tools for you to use and will not dicuss the problem. The language barrier was unbelievable as well. I literally corrected them on my name no less than 25 times and would get the "okay, okay 'insert wrong name here'." When I asked for my call to be escalated to a supervisor, after being placed back on hold for about 5 seconds, I was told no supervisor on the floor. Why buy a product that the company will not support?

I've had this adapter for about two months. For the first month, it worked great. Then, it started intermittently dropping my connection. After a few weeks the connection drops got more frequent. Since the return period is only 15 days, called Netgear technical support. They had me reinstall the software which did nothing to solve my problem. They were sympathetic and offered an RMA. So far so good, right? Well, their RMA fees are almost $20 unless you're willing to send it in and wait for two weeks for a replacement. And, if the RMA doesn't work, you have to cough up another $20. I called back and after 30 minutes on hold was told that there's nothing they could do. Asked for a supervisor and he repeated the same line. Company policy, no exceptions. Abysmal customer service. So, roll the dice if you don't mind spending $20 every couple months. But, a company that doesn't stand behind their products does not deserve my (or your) money.

I am a somewhat experienced cmputer software engineer and harware repairman, plug-and-play for windows 7 should have installed the updated and proper driver no problem, but to be safe I installed the CD software. First, it ouwldnt be detected then after an hour on the phone with some indian NETGEAR guy he said install a different software version number so i did, then windows disabled it wouldnt enable it and the software wouldnt open, now im stuck prolly gonna get a different card. biggest waste of time and money

The wi-fi adaptor would not connect to my laptop. I am not sure if it was a problem with the adaptor, the laptop, or the operator. Would recommend for a more Wi-fi savvy person.

Bought this to replace my old internal wireless card that was bottlenecking my system. However, for some reason the adapter keeps losing connection shortly after starting up my computer. I tested it on my laptop with the same results. Usually reseating the adapter works to "reset" it, however I've also had to reinstall the drivers a total of 4 times as suddenly neither computer could recognize the device. Going back to the store tomorrow to return this. Hopefully this one was just a defective unit.

    Waste of Money!

I have an HP computer that runs Vista 64-bit. There are very few adapters out there that will actually work with this version of Vista. I decided to go wireless about 2 years ago and was told Netgear was the best out there besides D-Link. I originally purchased the N300 version of this adapter and have had nothing but problems with it. It would overheat, drop the connection and then connect to WiFi Default Network even though I had ours listed as the priority. I finally fixed the WiFi issue but it still dropped the connection and said there were one or more problems with network adapters located on the computer. I finally had enough and purchased this new one (I really wanted a Lynksis N+ since my husbands works perfect). I will detect evey network around me but ours. It says our router is not broadcasting a single. My husband and my laptop are connected! I moved the computer within a foot of the router and still no signal. Then magically it will find a singal and we try to connect. It goes through the process of trying to identify the network but then says it's unidentified....I run the diagnosis and it says there is one or more problems with the adapter on the computer. If I can't find a suitable adapter (at Best Buy) I will probably go back to hardwire and shop somewhere else. The sales lady didn't even look like she knew what she was talking about. I'm taking it back after 2 hours. She says there isn't a restocking fee if returned within 30 days....we'll see.

Overall the range of the 5G adapter is very poor. I get 1 bar strength with the 5G adapter, when I would get 5 bars with the standard N connection. The higher speeds aren't helpful when the coverage is poor. Also very expensive. An adapter shouldn't cost as much as the router it is supporting.

    Bad WiFi Adapter

This adapter leaves much to be desired. I bought it to attach to one of my LED TVs that does not have WiFi built in and it would not work. Tried on my Mac laptop and it would not work. Worked only on my son's Dell laptop and the performance was terrible! Don't recommend to anyone!
