Great router upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this router as my previous stock netgear router from Comcast dropped connection every now and then. I live in an apartment with nearly 30 wifi networks in the vicinity that show in range. My older router was a single band router and therefore struggled (My assumption). Strangely, ComCast told me that the connection drop is due to the fact that the router is kept within 5 feet of the modem. Ever since I got this router, my internet drop frequency has gone down from 4 times in a day to once in a month or two even though the router is in fact within 5 feet of my docsis 3.0 modem. I have configured both bands and a guest network. It works great with three laptops + two smart phones + my internet HD streaming DVD player streaming netflix + another STB to stream Indian channels all working at the same time. Note: The performance is also dependent upon the internet connection speed you have. I tested this on a ComCast Blast internet with speeds of 25 MBPS. Dinged the performance rating by a notch as it did have to be re-started twice since I bought it 3 months ago. Pros: 1) Easy set up using the configuration interface (though an old one) 2) Very fast. No connection drops. 3) No external antenna. I never liked the small antenna that was so prone to breakage. 4) USB port. I hooked up my external HDD, This doubles up as a network storage for all my devices. It is great. 5) Good range. Did not have any problems connecting from any of my rooms. 6) could use VOIP without a lot of connection problems. Cons: 1) No Wall mount 2) Big round blue light nearly 1.5 inches in diameter in the center of the router that keeps flickering all the time. (I would have liked something more discreet) 3) Archaic Web based configuration User Interface. I don't understand why Netgear still persists with it. I had a similar UI on my first Netgear router way back in 2007. C'mon Netgear - 5 years with the same UI. Not a deal breaker though because once you have configured it, you probably won't revisit for months. 4) No wall mount option. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Of course there is a lot more that I would want the router to do, but at this price, it works for me and I believe would work for most who want to upgrade.

Not much better than the 6 year old linksys.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The long and short of this is that I think I should have kept the one I had. No better and the signal is weaker than my old one.

Great buy if you want a slow connection
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to upgrade from a Linksys router so I decided to purchase this one after I read some reviews from users and CNET. I was extremely surprised at the connection speed. The data transfers were extremely slow and the range was much shorter than compared to my three year old router. I ended up returning it for a refund.

I love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.from south dakotaon 03/01/2012Value for Price 5.0 Ease of Use 5.0 Performance 5.0 Ease of Installation 5.0 I baught this so i can extend my network. I am having this connect to another router wirelessly because my desktop is too far away from the main router to run a cable. I also have my xbox plugged into it because im using the 5 Ghtz frequency because that is faster than the 2.5 ghtz & my xbox is can only connect using the 2.5 ghtz if i wanted to connect via wireless. so far no problems

Good router for home networking and gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start off, this is the first router I have personally installed in my home. Prior to this it was all hard wired. I had my reservations initially about the ease, functionality, and overall performance of this product, however I have been pleasantly surprised. Setup: As other reviewers have mentioned you do not need the resource CD for installation. Setup via the router login site is simple and straight forward. Just remember when unplugging ethernet cables you will most likely need to reset, unplug, or reboot your cable modem for everything to work properly. I have a telephony cable modem and had to remove the battery and unplug all cables (LAN, coax, phone) to properly reset. Product Info: This router is dual band therefore it transmits wireless via 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. 2.4 is for b/g/n networks while 5 is primarily n only. Not a lot of descriptive manuals included with the product but honestly there is no need. The back of the unit consists of the power adapter, power on/off switch, 4 ethernet connections, modem to router connection, wireless on/off switch, reset button, and USB port for data/file sharing. The front of the unit has led lights for power, 2.4GHz, 5GHz, signal, and ethernet ports. Yes, there is a large plastic bubble on the top (or side depending if you use the stands) with blue led lights. Just press down and the lights turn off. My Experience: Setup consists of Telephony cable modem, WNDR3400 router, custom built PC wired to router, laptop, customer built PC 2, and PlayStation 3 via wireless. As mentioned previously, you will need to reset or reboot your modem for everything to work properly. Once initial setup was complete (about 30 minutes) I was surfing the internet, and playing Need For Seep Hot Pursuit online. I am getting download speeds of 9.7Mb/s on both the laptop and PC using wireless at ranges of 30 to 45 feet away.. Please note PlayStation utilizes b/g network therefore will only recognize the 2.4 GHz SSID. Pros: Easy setup (depending on the complexity of your overall network), good to excellent signal strength, latest security, good for gaming, dual band. Cons: No gigabit ethernet (pertains to wired applications only), the unit is covered in a very shiny plastic sheath, fingerprints remain for life.

N600 router - highly recommend
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had never hooked up a router and wasn't looking forward to it. I just followed the instructions (not super clear but was able to figure it out). We have a two story home with basement. Router sits on the main first floor. Clear reception throughout the house and basement. Setting up was pretty easy on base computer. My laptop picked it up right away. However, we had trouble with connecting it to my daughters computer. We called netgear support and they answered within 5-10 seconds and we were hooked up within 10-15 minutes. It was a piece of cake the way they walked us through it. It is very easy to use and sometimes I think it is quicker than being hooked up via cable (I know it can't be; however, it is pretty fast).

Returned the next day.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After I purchased the item and started to set it up, I realize that it was an open box item that have been returned which was not indicated at all on the box or during the sale. When I went to set up the network settings I could not get access because someone else is already set up passwords for it.

Works great with excellent range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this wireless router to enable my husband to access the internet wirelessly from his office, which is in a converted barn about 50-75 yards from the house, and to enable my kids and their friends to access the internet simultaneously and wirelessly from the family room downstairs in the "basement". My husband was actually able to connect from the barn with no problem at all with this router, but we still can't return his cable modem in order to save $45 a month on our cable bill because we found out that the modem is required for the digital phone service he's using for a separate business phone line he has. So I returned the great little USB network adapter that I bought for him (just to save the expense) and he went back to connecting his desktop PC to the internet through his modem, but at least he can use his laptop in the livingroom or bedroom (or even the bathroom) now. My kids and their friends have all been able to get on the internet at the same time whenever they've been in our basement for weeks now with no connectivity problems reported. This router is quiet, fairly attractive, and takes up very little space when you stand it on end. My husband finds the extremely bright, pulsating lights annoying but they don't bother me at all.

Wireless without a Hassle
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router to replace a Wireless G router, and I have only one complaint...It takes some reading, research, and trial and error to get to know all it can do and how to set things through the Web-Based settings adjuster...Other than this, the router has worked flawlessly, giving me lightning Wireless connections across multiple platforms (LINUX, MAC, PC, Wii, PS3, XBOX360)...I have only had to reset it once, and that was my own error...I would highly recommend this router to others...Also, the range is outstanding with my furthest machine being about 40 feet away and one floor below the router...Most routers fail to perform at the 5GHz level, but not the Netgear WNDR3400...
