We had another brand and movies were slow to load and stopped to reload all the time. We got the 600 without gigabytes and it helped, but not enough. We got this model with the gigabytes and it increased our reception 20% - 40% depending on the location giving us 100% in some locations. Really great when you download computer programs. Would say it great and spend a little extra and get what you really want in speed

Good router, especially for the money

This one worked really well after a failed attempt at making a Belkin product work. It still does not work, or hold the connection, as well as my 5 year old G router that quit on me. It must be true that they don't quite make them the way they used to..... Can't get it to recognize my Brother MFC at all, so a total bust there.....

This router is great for streaming and gaming. Keep in mind though, you may need to change the default "channel" that it sets itself up on. Because of the strength of the router, it's area usually surpasses your neighbors and you'll probably get knocked offline. If that happens, change the channel anything that it's not currently on (i changed mine to 6) and it hasn't dropped me once! Great hassle-free purchase!

So far, so good. We replaced our 6 year old router with this one and were assured it would handle all of our laptops plus a wireless printer. The router is downstairs in the office, and everything else is scattered throughout the house but mostly upstairs. We have had no problems, and the speed with which we are able to access the internet now is amazing. Setup was quick and painless, which is always a plus.

Worked well but failed after 2 years.

Had a good experience since some previous router experience with linksys product was not good. Agree with most of the 4-star reviews. Loaded down and locked up when several users were using it simultaneously. Has good coverage unless used at one end of a large house, requiring me to add a network extender. For large homes I recommend a premium product, such as the ASUS RT-66R or equivalent.

I love it. I thought I was going to lose internet speed or be dropped a lot, but it's great! And it is pretty, not at all taking away from my decor. My last router was ugly and always falling over. This one is perfect!!

House is over 2100 sq ft - 2 story. Currently have computer, 3 smart phones, 2 blue ray dvd players, and a notebook connected. Signal is strong in all rooms of house, and no slow down when multiple devices are active.

I purchased this router to replace my linksys which always gave me problems connecting certain products like laptops and gaming devices! As soon as this netgear was connected everything was a breeze! It preforms well and looks good! Great value for the money!!

This product works better than I thought. I am a full time online student and my roommate is a gamer who stays online 24/7. The connection works extremely well while taking online exams while my roommate plays games online. Would recommend to any college students.

    Poor Access Control

Had a Belkin G router, but needed more range for my home, so upgraded to this. Range of signal has greatly improved; easy to setup; wife says it's pretty too. BUT, if you want to have good control over when users (i.e. kids) can access the router, then NetGear (all their routers I found out) is NOT a good choice. The Parental Control S/W they advertise only applies to computers, and also only applies to what websites they can visit. It is easy to get around (for teenagers), and doesn't block them from using their Androids, IPods, etc. You can use MAC addresses to control user access to the network, setting a "schedule" for each MAC address- and this is exactly what I want to do- HOWEVER, the schedule doesn't work as needed. This is because each MAC address can have only ONE blockout time per day. Thus if you blockout Missy's laptop from Midnight to 6am, you cannot also block out her MAC address from 10pm to midnight of the same day. This is a very poor design in the router's software. To solve my problem, I just shutdown the wireless service from 2200-0600, since my PC is wire-connected.

I've used 3 NETGEAR routers over the past 12 years. All have met my needs. The NETGEAR RangeMax Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with 4 Ethernet Ports was super easy to install. I'm sure anyone can do it. It took me less than 10 minutes and its functioning has more than met my needs. I have a desktop, 2 wireless laptops, an iPAD, a wireless printer/fax/scanner. In a small home, 1600 sq ft.

    Great router and night light

The router is perfect unless you are not afraid of the dark. The router has a big blue ball of light that remains on the whole time the router is plugged in. I swear my kids have night liights in their rooms that are not this bright. But seriously router is great and the light should not deter you from buying it.

I baught this so i can extend my network. I am having this connect to another router wirelessly because my desktop is too far away from the main router to run a cable. I also have my xbox plugged into it because im using the 5 Ghtz frequency because that is faster than the 2.5 ghtz & my xbox is can only connect using the 2.5 ghtz if i wanted to connect via wireless. so far no problems.

    Great Router

The last router I had by linksys was complicated to setup and customer support was inadequate at best. When it died I had no problem in trying out another brand. Thankfully Netgear made this ease to use and simple to configure router. Never needed to think about calling CS for any type of support. The Dual band is awesome. I now have a total of four independently usable wifi connections.

I recently switched from DSL to cable because it is much faster. I needed to get a router compatible with cable. Netgear worked great when I turned it on. I was having a problem with my wireless drivers on my laptop. Netgear found the problem and downloaded the needed drivers and I had my wireless problem solved, Netgear notifies you of upgrades automatically which is very convienent
