This was a replacement for an old wireless repeater. I plugged it in, set up with data similar to the old repeater, and have been using it successfully ever since. It has no better range than the old unit. The bright lights on it are an annoying distraction, but setting them against the wall solved most of the problem.

I'm not a techno geek, just wanted a router that worked well for my son and his gaming and streaming of videos. Salesman recommended it based on our needs and I love it better than past brand I had purchased. Live in a 2 story townhome and our laptops are upstairs and the router and connection to the internet are downstairs, haven't had a problem with connection or speed, love my router!!

I have had this router for 2 months now with no issues. Speed and range are great. I am not a computer "techie", but I had no issues with the set up of this device. I really like that you can have multiple access points. I also like the parental contols that this device offers. It makes me feel more confident that all the devices(ipods, PS3, Wii, ipad, etc) in my home have controlled access.

This Netgear router has been great, enabling me to use my Amazon Kindle Fire at home. And as a bonus, my blu-ray player can now receive updates and enables me to connect w/ BD-Live & other features. So, for those looking to get more out of their computers and home entertainment, this product is a great way to go.

    Problems with Windows XP

Most of my machines are still XP. I started the installation with an XP laptop and after several hours of changing settings, reading FAQs, etc. I gave up and called Netgear support. After 4 calls and a couple of hours I got through. The support person reviewed my setup and when we were about to hit enter, she mentioned if my call were dropped that there would be no need to call again, she would call me. I was suspicious since she had done nothing in the setup that I had not done without success. She told me to hit enter, then the phone line went dead .... Obviously nobody ever called back. Just goes to show there is more than one way to fix a software bug :-) After more time I just plugged it into my old wireless router and transmitted to my XP machines on the old one, and the Vista machines on the new router. By the way installation was flawless with Vista machines and the signal is strong.

I bought this router to replace my old Linksys WRT54G because I'd just purchased a new home and I was looking for more coverage. Well, three months later I'm back to using the ole Linksys. Admittedly, the coverage area was better with the Netgear and it was faster. Although I have to say it wasn't by much. For instance, with the Linksys I can play XBox Live, stream Netflix all day with no problem. The difference with the Netgear is that I might get an "HD" quality signal with Netflix although I can't really see the difference in picture quality. Unfortunately that additional power isn't much use if the router keeps dropping the signal. After a month or two of trouble-free operation I suddenly found myself having to reconnect (enter router password) and reboot this thing constantly. This is the reason for the "fair" performance rating. Very frustrating. Power means nothing if I can't use it. I've since gone back to my old Linksys and I'm not sure if I'll even bother with another new router. I'll take old/reliable over new/sporatic any day. I will miss the blue light(s) though. It made for a cool night light. :\

I am not proficient in installing equipment for home computer use, but I was able to accomplish this installation and set-up pretty easily. After that, I was really surprised at the excellent performance. The response time is much better than the commercial carrier's router and my streaming videos play without a hitch...much better than the exasperating delays I was previously experiencing.

Returned this device as it didn't work with Verizon Fios actiontec router. Fio Actiontec router has a coaxil cable that comes to the wall into box. I called Netgear to find out how you use both & their technical support said it's not compatible with what I have & none of their products are compatible! What a big dissappointment. I learned after from the Verizon people that I could bridge the router but unless I was a technical geek it wouldn't be easy. Of course, since we've had FIOS for a number of years they would charge me to come out to the home. So needless to say I returned the router for a full refund & went with the apple exteme router which was very user friendly & works great!

This product is great because you can physically turn off the wireless capabilities on the machine. Also, and no ill will against Best Buy, but this product is a little difficult to deal with concerning passwords and usernames. Once they are set, you can't change them, so wirte them down and secure them. I have tried everything short of reinstalling the device, which will be my next step.
