WE WERE SEEKING A ROUTER THAT WOULD SERVE US IN MORE THAN ONE ONE FUNCTION WHEN THE NEED WILL ARISE. IT HAS SERVED US WELL IN MORE THAN ONE FUNCTION.

    SAVE YOUR MONEY

I purchased this router to replace my old router which I have been using for the past 4 years. Netgear claims that this router is perfect for online gaming and HD streaming. In reality, the router struggled to even load a busy web page. Even my 4 year old router did a better job than this $80 router. I went with a Linksys N300 and it streams HD with no problem at all. SAVE YOUR MONEY and go with the less expensive router.

    Lasted 6 months

Quit after 6 months. Called netgear for support and was told I needed to purchase extended support for them to fix the issue. No chance I would spend any more money with them when their product only lasted 6 months. Replacement router will be any brand but netgear.

The directions are poor, The tech support is great. When you get it working you realize that this is a great improvment to your wireless network.

    Died Young

Funny, I received an advert in my email today for accessories to go with this unit and today was the day it quit working. I had to reconnect my old router to get my main comp back online. The setup was easy and the speed well worth the less than hundred dollar price as I had my backup HDD connected via network. All my wireless is Netgear but not ever again even if I get a replacement I will try another brand anyway. Time consumers stopped settling for unreliable technology. We have gotten too used to things not working correctly and the companies are exploiting it.

Support is terrible for installation issues

It seems like a good router but if you have any installation issues requiring Netgear's technical support, then you are out of luck. I purchased this for the parental controls. The other features are also nice but this was my primary reason for the purchase. Parental controls would not install on my Windows 7 machine, so I called support. The first support rep may have had some reading disability: she was very hard to understand as she did not follow words from her script in the order they were written. After 30 minutes she told me to install the parental software from another source. I hung up and tried it, but it did not work. The second support call (45 minutes) resulted in the engineer telling me (aggressively) that I needed to call my computer manufacturer because my computer was "unable to process the file extension." I asked her which extension, as I could only see a .zip file and an .exe file. She did not know what she was talking about so was unable to answer me. I asked for someone with next level of expertise. She put me on hold and 20 minutes later I was disconnected. She did not record the fact that my case had been escalated to the next level of support, so my third call required me to go through the entire first level support script again. This engineer told me that this was a known issue with the router and that the next level of support would contact me that day. This call never came. At this point the router started rapidly sending "identifying" and "connected" messages to my PC, though it appeared to not affect my ability to reach the internet. The next two calls to support followed the pattern of waiting 10-15 minutes to speak to someone, having them transfer me to the next level of support, waiting on hold for 20-25 minutes, and getting disconnected. I only specify these details so that you will know what I mean when I say Netgear support is dysfunctional. I returned the router and will stick with Linksys/Cisco, who have support departments that are operating at a much higher level than that.

    Wish I'd bought something else

I've owned this product since July 2011 and initially thought it was great. Lots of nice features for setting up a home network. But the signal strength was not consistently good. Sometimes it was fine, but other times I could not see it at all, even from close by. Once an upgrade seemed to solve the problem, but then it got to where I needed it replaced. Online support kept trying to tell me to reconfigure it, do this, do that, but the problem was poor signal. Then I found out I had to *pay* to get them to send a replacement unit first, under warranty! That should not be, but I paid the money. The replacement unit is worse than the one I sent back. Now I need to reboot it every other day or it wigs out and drops my wireless devices constantly. I'm getting something else and it won't be a Netgear.

I purchased this router to replace an older Belkin N150 router...The speed improvement on this router was less than desired. It's definitely quicker, but didn't show the kind of improvement I expected. Would probably not buy again if given the opportunity. It's had no problems connecting to my PC, but it has had problems staying connected to my iPad and iPhone, where the old router never had a problem.
