This Netgear Router replaced a 5 year old D-link router. This has great range.

Like many other reviewers, I have had issues with the router losing both WAN and WiFi connections with the only fix to be a reset. On the WAN side, this router seems to have issues with Comcast's new DNS servers. I would lose internet access and have to reset the router. Four to six hours later I would have to repeat the process. I've changed to Google's DNS server and that seems to have solved the internet issue, however I would feel more secure if I were able to use my ISP. WiFi connection drops intermittently to my devices (2 iPhones, iPad, 2 laptops, and a Blueray). Devices are able to see the router, but not connect. It does not drop all the devices, usually only one is affected at a time, mostly the windows machines. However, the only way to get the connection reestablished is to reset the router, so it is not a device issue. It's less than a year old, and these problems started within the last month or so. I will likely end up buying a Linksys.

    A Lose Lose Situation...............

Well...I did my homework and realized that buying a router is kind of a turkey shoot to begin with. So....I drove an hour to buy the NETGEAR - RangeMax Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with 4 Ethernet Ports - Black, at the Best Buy only to talk to a salesman in the computer department that could have cared less, and when I couldnt find it, to find the router to have had a name change and is now called the N600 Wireless in the store. Bought the router and added a $10 dollar two year warranty and drove back home. The next day I tried to install the device. Just spent all day trying to get the darned thing to work. It would not connect to my PC...Which is an expensive one. I did every check, balance, and test in the book short of swinging the router over my head and screaming like a chicken. It would not connect. After much searching I finally located the number to NEATGEAR for phone help. Spent hours playing "Do This Now Do That".....At the end of the day...I hear.."OH..You have a defective model". JOY JOY..Well aint that just great! Now I get to spend another hour driving back to Best Buy to exchange it for another model...Gee..Maybe that will be defective too so I can waste another day talking to people that do not seem to know what to do. Oh...... and that hour drive and $30.00 dollars in gas is now added to the c ost. Such a deal. A $75 dollar router now cost me$175 and I aint even got it working yet. Cant wait to see what the future holds for me and my router. Just shoot me now.

We bought this product and had it for two weeks before it stopped working completely. Apparently it was faulty from the manufacturer. Needless to say we took it back to Best Buy and they replaced it with another one. We've had the new for about 2 weeks now and I'm hoping this one works for awhile.

Upgraded to this router from a wireless G and was really pleased with every aspect of this router. Came home one day and the 5ghz light was the only light on the router. After trying all the usual trouble shooting procedures I tried to do a complete reset (held the reset button in for 20 seconds) and this did not work. Again this router is priced right and is perfect for a online gaming and hd video streaming house but not sure how quality the internal components are.

Zero for the Netgear Support - Wirless drop to 25

    Posted .

Zero for Netgear Support. I purchased the equip in Dec, 2015. I finally decided to change router to Netgear few days ago. My wired speed is ~100mbp. However, when using wireless, the speed is dropped to ~25mbp. Spoke to cable company Comcast, they said it's router issue. When I called Netgear Support, they said this could be fixed by change some setting. However, because my support period have expired (it starts on the date purchased) - despite of this is very FIRST TIME I opened the box and using it. He cannot help me unless I reactivate the support service, which means, additional $$$. Immediately right after, the support person changed his tone and trying to sell me the $50 one time support fee, or $90 for 6 months, $180/a year. Did I just called the support or the sales department?! This is very frustrating experience. The reason I purchased this device is to increase the speed. After install the Netgear, it is even slower than my previous LinkedIn router. If it is the setting issue, why doesn't Netgear makes it clear on the set up instructions or default it to the correct settings? I wasted my time speak to their Support. All they want is your money, not the customer service. If this product is as good as it advertised, I will never know. And, I wasted my money purchase a piece equip that gives me 25mbp wireless, Very disappointed with their support service.

Too slow, Not enough bandwidth for downloads

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When I bought this the salesman warned me that if I watch videos and movies online I would not have enough bandwidth. I don't watch videos, so it seemed OK. While I was moving it great to have a portable internet device. At first I was fine, but then I found I could not use it for online backup. Since it was now past the cancellation period, I had to give up online backup. Even so, I still have insufficient bandwidth for a single large software download. At times, response time slows to a crawl and my web page times out. I would recommend this only to a very light weight user - maybe just a few emails without photos. Me, I am stuck because of the 2 year contract.. Brighthouse doesn't tie you to a 2 year contract. Unfortunately, Verizon is inadequate so I am going to spend 2 years paying for both!

    Xbox does not like it

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this to replace an older Netgear I had that just didn't seem to be giving a signal like it used to. Setup was easy, had laptop and ipods connected in no time. Xbox would connect to live but always had Strict NAT setting. Setting the NAT open still didn't help. Customer Support said the modem was setting the NAT also. Why can I connect straight to modem and no problems, or to old Netgear router? Taking it back and going to try a Cisco this time. For laptops, ipods, etc it worked great but for gaming, not to good. After several hours of trying to get it to work I was finished. If your not gaming, it would probably be a great router.
