    Functional but signal range limited

I purchased this unit to replace a Belkin g router (had dual antennas) and the signal range appeared to be significantly smaller. I have an app on my smart phone (Wifi analyzer) that graphically shows signal strength. I could no longer connect in areas of the house that I could connect previously. I tried multiple orientations thinking that perhaps the antenna was somewhat directional with no significant improvement. Returned this unit to the store for a Cisco N router and while still not quite as wide coverage, it was a suitable replacement with the technology upgrade from g to n.

    MISERABLE EXPERIENCE!!!

This was the worst router setup I have ever done. First the set up disc just plain did not work at all, forget it. Then I went online to do set up that way with a rep, after finally getting through this it worked for 10 minutes then not working at all again. No internet. Had to call ISP and have that reset. Then another rep could not help. Finally the last rep screwed things up so bad that my computer was no longer even capable of connecting to any wireless network. Did not call me back in the 60 seconds as promised. After spending 6 hours on this mess I had my computer diagnose the issue and installed the wireless adapter again and fixed it myself. Now it is working but the last rep had me put in my phone number as password. How dumb. So I don't dare mess more with this and as for long term use? Don't know. I will be taking this back as best buy rep told me this has features it doesnt. Could there be a worse experience?

    Dog Meat After 13 Months

This would be a great product if it didn’t go South after 13 months. I have it powered by a UPS and it has adequate ventilation and it is an acceptable environment. About two weeks ago the power light turned yellow. I rebooted the router and it went back on line. A week later the yellow power light appeared again. I disconnected all the Ethernet cables and plugged the router into another outlet, the yellow power light remained on. I reset the router and unplugged it; Still the same problem. I then updated the firmware and reentered all the parameters and reset it. It worked for a few days and the yellow power light reappeared. I recommend this router conditionally; when it works, it's very good.

I bought this router for my store because we were installing IP security Cameras. This router looks great and i really wished it worked for me. but we tried installing it and following the directions exactly and it would not connect to the internet. we even had the Security company come and try and he couldnt. We got anothe router and it connected fast. I still have not returned this router because i am hoping to find out what went wrong. it looks soo sweet.

This router lowers wired speed by over 60%

Netgear N600 (WNDR3400-100NAS) I have an internet speed of 230mbps on a wired connection (modem wired straight to PC tower). When this router is in that wiring it cuts the speed to between 75mbps and 90mbps... Be very clear that I'm NOT talking about a wireless speed being lower to a different device, laptop or something (I know and expect the speed to reduce through wifi)... I'm saying that once this router is in the wiring to my main desktop, it cuts the mbps by more than 60%. I've now researched and found out that this router has a 100mbps limit and that the 300mbps advertised has to do with some kind of manipulated thing. i will return for a different router, so I can have the full internet speed that I pay my provider for.

Does not perform well, very disappointed

I bought this router because the sales person recommended it. I frequently have to reboot to get either my laptop or printer to work. This is the same problem I was having with my old router. Maybe Best Buy will exchange it for a better router?

    Too Many Problems

I have been disappointed with this router. During setup it had an error when installing the latest software updates. It kicked me out of the setup and I had to start the process over. The second time it started up fine and did not attempt to install any updates. When the computer and router have been powered down, I have to wait for the router when powering up the computer. The first attempt to connect to the internet always gets an error because the router has not yet connected. I'm hard wired so it is not a wireless issue. Another problem is that it kicks me off the internet with a comflicting ip address issue on the hard wired connection when the wireless laptop connects in.

    Bricked!

Bought the router and first thing it wants to do is upgrade the firmware. Seems simple and straight forth. However, my wonderful internet connection drops during the middle of the upgrade. The product is unusable. I contacted support. They were completely useless. They treated me like a child. Ultimately the rep wants to take control of my computer. Not a chance in the world of that happening. The instructions seemed simple and easy to use. But due to the offshore customer service experience, I can't recommend buying it.

    Beware Netgear

    Posted .

I have had two Netgear routers within the last 14 months. This current one the N600 was ok until my internet started to become very slow on my desktop that is hard wired to the router and I have high speed internet. Just a few days ago speeds reduced and I would find myself unplugging the modem and router for a few minutes and plug back in to refresh my internet connection. My netflix would disconnect etc.... I was told my router was dying. I had an older Linksys G router up until a year and a half ago and had that router for about 4 years and it worked great. Went back to Linksys and it works great. I am using a dual band N gigabit router and so far so good.

    Internet works, but that's it

I have an older Netgear router so I bought this one for an upgrade. I could get on the Internet OK with the hard wired computer, but would loose wireless connection with the laptop. I have 2 systems in the house, home control and security cameras that need to port forward theirs address so they can be seen remotely by smart phone or another computer. This router will not you to remotely do anything. Talked to tech support for over an hour with no help. They did not seem what to do. They finally said take it back. So I will and keep using the older router. My download speeds also seemed to be 1/2 of the other router.

    Great features, lousy reliability

I bought this router a couple years ago for the features and the price point. Love the features, if I could ever use them more than a week after rebooting. Access to personal data from the internet doesn't work when you're not home to reboot the router after it locks up and won't service requests. I've done every firmware update available and it never improved. I'm about to make use of it for target practice. Normally, I'd hand it down to a friend but I wouldn't do that to a friend. It would also mean an endless stream of support calls from that friend, "why can't my printer stay connected to my network?", "why can't my [TiVo, DSLite, BluRay, Computer, etc] stay connected?", "why do I have to reboot it every week?" Just bought a Cisco router. Hopefully that will be better.
