Lots of Problems - Do NOT Buy

The Netgear WNDR3400V2 N600 Wireless Dual Band Router just will not stay connected to the internet. It will go along fine for a day or two and then every 2 minutes it drops the internet connection and something called the Netgear Genie pops up and you have to wait for five minutes or so for it to reestablish an internet connectiion and by then you have forgotten why you wanted to use the internet. You are constantly fighting an uphill battle with this router. When you contact support they send you an email that you can't reply to and want you to do all this stuff that you would need a computer engineer's assistance with. I am very dissappointed with this router. I wish I could have found a Linksys router when I went to the Best Buy store and I surely would have bought it. I am now stuck with a door stop until I bite the bullet and pay for another router. If you want my advice for what it's worth STEAR CLEAR of the WNDR3400V2 version of the Netgear Router. You will be glad you didn't buy it. Good luck.

    Junk

I own the WNDR3300 and LOVE it! I decided I wanted to add an external hard drive to my router for my Macbook's TIme Machine backups so the WNDR3400 seemed like a good choice. I was absolutely wrong! I tried for 3 hours to get this router setup by using the router website (www.routerlogin.com). It locked up every time I clicked "apply" to save my changes. I had to reset the router at least 5 times to get it to work again. It's going back to BB tomorrow. I highly recommend you stay away from this router. I'm going to give the WNDR3700 a try. If that doesn't work, then I'm moving to Linksys.

    too many faults

There was such high hopes for this device but those crashed just like my internet connection. Off my defailt router from cable company my internet would run just slower. The netgear router would lose connection frequently and the customer service was horrible. I had a linksys router that would for years just needed something faster and it was when it worked.

Bricked before 2 months of use.

This router performs well, as long as it doesn't destroy itself. Last night, I pushed the button on the back to turn off the wifi, and it completely corrupted the device's firmware beyond repair. I have attempted the instructions on restoring the firmware with no luck. Those instructions require you to use the command prompt, and while that's fine for me personally, I think that's ridiculously non-user-friendly. I have only owned this router for 6 weeks, and now it's completely dead for no reason. Just outside of the return period, so I now have to deal with foreign customer support as they ask me to do things I EXPLICITLY explained I have already tried. I have never had issues with any router in the past beyond "you get what you pay for". I can't recommend Netgear products to anyone now.

Worked for week then dropped connection

I have several (about 10) wireless devices and wired devices scattered throughout the house. I replaced a Belkin with this and was working until I added a device to the network. Then the router just dropped out. Support could not get it to work after wasting two hours of my time! The hunt continues for a router that works well with lots of devices . . .

    Randomly drops connection

I have had this wireless modem for about 2 years. It is connected to a Time Warner Touchtone Telephony modem. When I initially purchased it, it worked great but over the last 6 months, the connects drop randomly. I have reset the modem back to factory settings and continue to have the same issues. We have several computers, iphones, ipads, blueray, directv, etc service all connecting through the same point. The dropping occurs on all systems. If you do a google search you will fine a large number of complaints about this wireless modem.

    Netgear needs some help

I had this item for one month and it stopped working on the 2.5ghz side. The 5ghz still worked. My wireless printer and HP laptops lost internet because of this, but the iMac still worked. I reset the router and it all stopped working. I was on the phone with support for over two hours resetting this thing numerous times with nothing happening. This is the second router from them that has quit on me. I no longer support this company. I have gone to another brand of router.

I have had the WNDR3400 for a few months. The range of signal is very weak on both bands. After a couple of months it started losing connectivity to the internet. Netgear support said to update the firmware. After update it quit working. NOW THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL. Product comes with Lifetime hardware warranty. The support is for software and is not under warranty. They will not replace because it is a software issue. This is the worst customer service I have ever had. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS!

Like all Netgear...You cant install them easily

What a dissapointment! This is the second time I was sucked in by NetGears Tech or lack of, telling me I needed to upgrade to get a new computer working. I purchased this dual band at their suggestion. As I have had with the last two Netgear routers it wouldn't work following the directions. Three hours with India....Still wouldn't work....I called Netgear headquarters while on the phone with India....HDQTRS had me up and running in 15 minutes. FYI my new computer nor any of my other equipment works on the second band that NETGEAR told me I needed. It also did not extend my coverage inside the house like it promised. Waste of a hundred bucks! I WOULD HAVE GIVEN 0'S IF THEY HAD THE OPTION

We have a small 1500 sq ft house and none of the upstairs needs are meet. The laptops & gaming systems can't find our wireless connection upstairs, yet work fine downstairs. I didn't buy this to connect 15 feet away. Guess I'll go spend the money for a more powerful router. Not at Best Buy though. This was their recommendation. They already got some of my hard earned money. I'll be over at Frye's.

    Not Secure...Got Hacked!

My router got hacked into from three different sources, one from China, one from Pennsylvania and one from California..My son was checking the log ins and noticed that someone had gotten into our router even though we had it password protected and we have security protection on our comps. The main hacker was the one in China. My son found out all the hacker's info through using some program he knows. The hacker was flooding our comp.We kept knocking the hacker off and he kept vigorously trying to get back into our router and he did! so,we had to disconnect everything fast.We called Netgear and they are the worst in customer service. They did not know anything and they would not help us at all.I had to get rid of this router and buy one from a different company with security installed into it for about the same price this one is.

    reduced range and signal

This router was touted as my solution to poor internet signal in the house and I had the Geek Squad install it. Result. I actually lost internet connectivity in part of my house. After requesting help, the Geek Squad recommended an Apple product. I installed it myself and it worked great. My recommendation for poor internet connectivity is an apple airport extreme with airport express expanders. do it yourself, it's simple.

Please read the negative reviews before buying

Like many have stated, this thing encounters problems after a few months of use (after the 90 day warranty expires). For me, the router constantly disconnects for both wired and wireless on my cable internet. It is getting ridiculous these days with the router disconnecting every few minutes. It's gotten to a point now where it cannot open a web page saying there is no internet connection and I have to refresh it half a dozen times before it finally connects. It worked fine when I bought it but it is completely unusable now. Avoid at all costs.

This was the third net gear I had bought I won't make this mistake again! For the first 4 months it was great after that I had nothing but problems with it dropping signal called net gear and they said it was out of warranty and wanted a hundred dollars to help me figure out what was wrong with it ( I think it was defective) I will never buy net gear AGAIN ! I have purchased a apple airport extreme and it is awesome

Let me say first, I've installed several routers successfully and I have successfully located missing drivers to other devices. I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life trying to install this thing. The driver is supposedly imbedded. It didn't install. I searched the internet and downloaded the only driver I could find from the Net Gear site. No luck. I called customer support and after 45 minutes and speaking to two people who were very soft spoken and hard to understand I was asked if they could call me back! I returned the thing and bought a Medialink Wireless-N Broadband Router from someone else. It installed painlessly.

I replaced another router with the net gear thinking it may be a little better in perhformance. I was wrong, where I used to have wireless receptionist in my home I no longer have reception and I do not have a large home. It looks as though I will be going back to my linksis wireless router.

Think long and hard before you buy a Netgear product! After 90 days they want to charge you $100/year for offshore phone support. Cisco gives a full year of support. My router is having a problem after five months and I am really wishing I had gone with Cisco!! I promise publicly and to the world I will never buy a Netgear Product again!!!

    The worst router ever.

Worked okay until right after my one-year warranty wore out. I did have to power cycle it quite often, which is less than ideal. When it completely stopped working (only 13 months after buying it), I was strung along for over 30 minutes by some IT guy that had such a thick accent I couldn't understand him... only to be directed to another person with a horribly thick accent. After almost an hour on the phone I found out they were only willing to give me tech supoort over the phone if I paid them $39.99, which is ridiculous. They also had no regard for my situation and were somewhat rude. A complete waste of time and money.
