Had to be re-booted at least once a day

Eventually I took this back to Best Buy and upgraded to the Linksys EA4500. This router on 2.4G needed to be rebooted at least once a day. Once connection to wifi was lost it had to be re-booted to get connection back. The range was also limited and did not give strong signal strength even being placed in an optimal location. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. IT IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Did not work with fiber optic network

This router did not connect to Internet with the fiber optic network. Returned and replaced with another. Same story. Finally got a Cisco wireless router and had no problem installing and connecting. Netgear tech support was no help and insisted it was the network provider's problem.

    way too many drops

This Netgear dual-band router has way too many drops for this price point. I am experienced and know what I'm doing. Actually this install was excellent and very fast. But we lose signal constantly. Range was no better in our mid-size house than with our old G router. And our PS3 is literally 15 feet away from the router and we can't even play a Netflix movie without constant buffering and drops. I don't know how this has a 4.2 rating but notice there are many 1 star ratings....way too many. Hope your experience is better than ours has been. I am taking mine back tomorrow and getting something different.

Probably good- that's what the salesperson said.

First of all, I'm old and technically challenged most of the time. I tried to set this up and could not get it to work. I went on line to the maker and saw that for a substantial fee they would talk with me. I hooked my old router back up and took the new one back.

After having the router for aroundbout 6 months, it fried hard. After much debate with CS that i should not have to pay the service fee to have it fixed, (which was more then i paid anyway) i began looking at every negitive review.. THEY ONLY LAST 6-9 MONTHS. NETGEAR PLEASE STOP TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CUSTOMER BASE. I will never buy another netgearproduct ...EVER

Too dang hard to set up -- customer service awful

I have been using and setting up routers for years. The Netgear router was tedious to make work and frankly still does not connect with every device on my network. Calling Netgear service is ridiculous. It is hard to understand them and when they could not immediately help me set up my printers they told me that printers on the network were my problem not theirs. They had told me they would send me a customer satisfaction survey but when I told them their service stunk she said " I will make sure you do not get a survey to complain about me". NETGEAR = NEVER AGAIN

    Not compatiable with Vista PCs

this router not working with Vista PCs and not working with wireless printers. The better routers are D-Link brands and they are cheaper and work for all OS PCs' wireless cards and WLAN printers.

    Would not recommend this router

I installed it and had to continually reset it to make it work. Brought it back to the store and bought an Apple Air Extreme and it is wonderful. Haven't had to do a thing except plug everything in. Quite a different experience from the Netgear.

Can't add devices with XP operating system easily.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The router installed pretty easily but adding devices to the WIFI network was not possible using the instructions and "wizards" provided. After several hours of trying various approaches to adding devices, I called the customer service line and the customer service representative was able to get my computers added to the WIFI network by using procedures that were not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. The process he walked me thru was very convoluted and, because the support only lasts 90 days, I will likely not be able to add devices after that time without paying for support. I refuse to buy anything that is a $ trap further down the road. I will be returning this device.

    does not support print server

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this product so that I could hook up my USB printer, and have wireless printing from several different computers. After 2 or 3 phone calls to NetGear tech support (to someone who doesn't speak very good English) I was told after almost an hour that my printer (or any printer for that matter) is not a supported device. The USB port on this device is for file sharing ONLY and does not support other devices. If you're looking for a quick router with a difficult set up process that allows for file sharing, then this one is for you. If you're looking for something that allows you to print from several different computers, then this isn't the correct product for you!

    Terrible Connection

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Connects to PS3 perfectly, but cannot steadily connect to iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or laptop in out small house. The first one I bought couldn't connect at all; after months of contacting Netgear, they replaced it and gave me another WNDR3400. This time, it connected to the other systems for about 3 days until the wifi connectivity started to waver and die out. Now the Blackberry rarely runs on wifi and the iPhone has become laggy due to the constant switching between wifi and carrier networks. Netgear lost big time.

Could not set up or get help doing so

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The salesperson said that setup was nearly automatic, but when i put in the settings copied from my old router, it didn't work. Geek Squad did not help. First they said I could pay them to come set it up. I refused on that one so they suggested I call NetGear. I reached a person on the other side of the planet in a half hour or so. He informed me that my problem was not covered by their 90 day free support and I had to pay him before he would talk to me. I just paid $80 for a product that didn't work as advertised. Now Best Buy and NetGear both want more money to see if they can make it work. Back to the store it goes. I will exchange for a Belkin or Cisco.

Easy to install, but not the best range.

Works great and like that you can put controls on it, but our last WIFI had better range. We aren't even very far from from this WIFI when it seems to click on and off (one room away). Very irritating to those that use it (mostly my kids).

If you need a little help or instruction to help you figure out what all this product can do. This product won't help you. This product needs a specialist to teach you what it can do. Give your customers a product guide for Dumbies!

    Horrible.

I got this together better range. Not only was the range not better than my $30 old one but it would stop transmitting frequently. I'd have to reset all the time. I called the 800 # 3 times and they couldn't fix it. They told me I'd need to get a new router. Saw several reviews after I bought that others had the same problem.

Poor performance - worse customer service

Could not get router to establish a wireless connection to my HP printer (working fine with my old Linksys router). When I tried to get tech support from Netgear, they said I would have to pay for this - not included in free 90 day support. Wireless connection to my Bluray player was so poor music played on Pandora would constantly pause and buffer. Router and bluray player are only 50' apart in a one story house.

I was under the impression that this product was a newer version of the old router I had, and would speed up my downloading for streaming videos. I have not seen any increase in speed and it might even be slower.

    Buyer beware

I had the product for a little over a year and when adding a new laptop to my network, I would get a local only connection. Netgear refused any type of support other than outrageously priced phone support, or email support. Unfortunately email support is very inefficient for troubleshooting issues like this. They never resolved the issue. Netgear does not stand behind their product so I can not either!!

It started our working fine, and has progressively slowed down, especially wireless. I use a Roku for TV service, or at least i used to. Now I'm unable to watch anything internet related due to this router.
