Did not work with my existing Netgear
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this extender to compliment my existing Netgear that I purchased two years ago. After 4 hours of trying to hooki it up, and contacting tech support I was informed that my existing unit was outdated for the extender and no longer compatible. I returned it and purchased an ASUS and am very happy with it.

Would only work for one computer at a time.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We set it up, which was not easy, because the software was not as straightforward as it could have been. I could get one computer to work with it, but when I set up a second computer to work with it, then the first one would not work with it. We got a different extender and it works fine.

Works well with most devices...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an Apple Airport Extreme router that broadcasts to my whole house perfectly fine, the lowest signal strength is about 50% in the far corner of my basement. My house is a two story foursquare house built in the early 1900s, so its not small at all. However, it only barely reaches to the neighbor's house, who wanted to pay me to use my wireless. It doesn't extend much past his wall that faces my house, and is "very low" in signal quality. With this extender placed along my wall facing his house, he gets three out of five bars on the opposite side of his house! Pros: Good range, EXTREMELY easy to setup. I don't usually like Netgear products, but this one (so far) is fantastic. Cons: There are two; one, its a little expensive. Two, it does not seem to like the neighbor's Linksys adapter, hence the 4 out of 5 rating. My wife's MacBook Pro connects great, my Intel chipped Windows 7 laptop does as well. I am still playing with the security settings to see if thats where the incompatibility lies, since my neighbor's adapter and PC are a little older.

did not extend my range at all
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Avoid this product. I tried it at multiple locations in my home on 3 different levels. There was absolutely no improvement in my wifi range. I gained nothing. It could not even extend the range 10 feet from my bedroom into the open adjoining bathroom. Worthless.

Not easy to access
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device did not deliver a wireless extension for my home. Don't have time to sit thru another tech assistance call. Product will just end up being another failed technology piece of equipment in our home.

This did not engage the way it was suppose to
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a modem and router and have them on the main level of the home. I used the "boost" to get better reception and I had to reset this device frequently, therefore I unplugged and wasted the money.

hard to install
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it took three (3) trips to the store to install. I still don't know if is working. I don't notice a difference. I think it is a useless trinket sitting atop my PC and will toss it the next e-waste drive. $70 for nothing. live and learn.

Returned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Either customer "service" or the product or both failed. They were unable to help to get it to work and blamed my router's password corruption. Router password was and is fine and product was returned as defective.

It works for my situation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I need to get a better connection to my new smart HDTV. I have heard extenders are poor and will cut your service speed in half and also negatively affect the entire network speed. Since I can return this for full price if it doesn't work (great policy Best Buy) why not try it. My wireless router is on main floor about 30-40 feet away, through 2 brick walls or two roof lines, depending on how the signal gets to the 2nd floor media room. My laptop works fine in my media room depending where one sits. However the wireless adapter the TV uses is evidently weaker and barely connects to the network. I have a 15Mbs cable service and the TV was only pulling 0.5Mbs. Remember dial-up? Depending on where I located the extender in this room I either got good reception or poor reception from the router. I started as suggested in the installation guide which put the extender in the same room with clear line of site to the TV, but about 20tf from the TV, closer to the router. TV signal strength improved from no bars to 2 bars out of 5. This TV's wireless adapter is really weak as it should have had full strength. I then moved the router closer to the TV ending up on top of my entertainment cabinet adjacent to the TV and near the outer wall on the router side. The extender is getting a good signal there and the TV has 5 bars. The TV now pulls 13Mbs down. Since the extender is so close to the TV now and all my other devices, I decided to try the Ethernet connection to the TV. Better, the TV has 15Mbs down now. Problem solved! Now for the pain of set up. Netgear tries to make the setup simple (Netgear Genie) for everyone's skill level and in the process makes it harder for those that prefer the manual setup; really hard for those that may not have much skill if things don't work. On initial setup, one cannot just enter the setup by IP address without going through the genie menu first. My WIFI SSID is hidden and before I always connect new devices I unhide it to make it more simple for first initial connection. First, the WPS function did not work with my Linksys router's WPS. Second, the extender will not connect to a hidden SSID, even though all required data via the "Genie" was correctly entered for the existing wireless network. Other devices can have this issue too, but all my other devices once connected and the SSID hidden again will reconnect if powered off and back on. The Netgear extender will not reconnect, period. If the connection is lost then the network's SSID has to be visible for the extender to reconnect. These issues are all annoyances, but do not affect the performance which I am pleased with. Only 4 stars because of the poor instructions, can't bypass the genie, and no way to connect to a hidden network. The other alternative would have been the Netgear Powerline XWNB5201. This would have been required if the extender could not get a good wireless signal from my router. The extender is the cheaper solution at almost halt the cost. I have had this extender in service for several days now, never lost a connection and continues to provide my networks max speed. YouTube, Netflix, and the web work great.

Bought this today and no complaints
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this today to add some hard plugs to an area separated from my router. I have a TV, Satellite Receiver and Old Computer that doubles as a Home Media Center that are not wi-fi compatible and the router is in another room, so I need something that can pick up the Wi-fi network but also has Ethernet ports I can plug into. I use an Apple Airport Extreme Base (my whole set up is Mac-based) as my router but didn't want to pay close to $100 for an Airport Express that only has one Ethernet port. I was concerned that the Netgear Extender might not work seamlessly with the Apple Airport, but figured it was worth a shot if it saved me $50. When I the Extender home and plugged ion, I was amazed at how easy everything was. The Extender has a WPS button (which I assume makes pairing even easier) but my router doesn't, so I went to the "more complicated" set up with the website. I followed the directions (there were only 3 steps or so) and BOOM, it was up and running. I even decided to make a couple modifications to the set up and it worked with no issue at all. One thing i do want to make everyone aware of is that when you put the extender on your network, the default for it is to create a second network, taking whatever you call your network and adding "2.4Ghz" to the end of the name. I kind of didn't want to have a second network so I just named the "new" network the same as the old network, and it worked with no issue. Furthermore, when I had the 2 networks, I ran a few speed tests and it seemed to divide my bandwidth between the 2 networks, but when I just had one, it was testing twice as fast. I am no expert or anything, but everything just seems faster and better with 1 network as opposed to 2. If I am right, and that really is the case, you just need to know to make that modification in the set up process.
