    NETGEAR WiFi Range Extender

This item is by far the best extender I have used so far. I had this extender for a little over a month and so far pretty good. My router was not reaching to my room very well and was very un-happy until I got this extender and now I have perfect WiFi that can reach my room. I don't have a big house but my walls are pretty thick but this helps extend that WiFi connection. Set up is very easy and very quick, only took me a few minutes. Now, the only down side sometimes and its only sometimes...connection does take a moment and goes in and out but only for a split second. Right now I have my phone connected fully on the extender and never really had any problems and ipad. Its not a fully built tough devise but it is a nice small compact devise you can hide away.

    Great range extender

The extender was a little difficult to set-up even going step-by-step in the guide. Luckily I can figure things out pretty easily. Once I got it up and running, it works as advertised. I have my PS3 wired to it.I noticed a big difference when my PS3 updates software. It is definately faster now than when my PS3 is running wirelessly. After about a month, I have only had to reset the extender once due to it losing connection. Overall, I am pleased with the extender. It meets my expectation on what I bought it for. So far, so good!

Vast improvement over weak Comcast signal

Comcast's signal seemed to be on again, off again. This went on for months. PC is about 30 ft from router. Laptop close to router had variable Mbps, up to 20. Imac about 15 ft from router usually had about 17Mbps. The PC would be fine for weeks and then almost no signal for a week or so. The Netgear range extender was pretty easy to install despite the instructions not being very good - not sure what I did right but it worked right away. It has lost the signal once or twice but rebooting it gets it right back. Oddly, since I got it, the Comcast signal has been extremely strong. It's easy to switch back and forth between the extender and the router so I can test the speed of each within seconds. When the router is working well, it is usually a bit faster. The extender is usually a consistent but slower signal while the router is more variable. All in all, it was well worth the money. At least I can always get a signal. Maybe Comcast was right - that I have an intermittent dead zone. Funny how problems are always intermittent.

    Perfect for my old desktop

My old desktop is nowhere near my wireless router, and I'd had bad luck with wireless adapters before. This allowed me to get it on my wireless network, and to provide a stronger signal to devices in other parts of my home. A note to make your life easier: Everyone else is right -- the instructions for getting started are worse than worthless. Do yourself a favor and hook up your computer to the booster with an Ethernet cable (if you're doing this on a laptop, turn off the wireless to force it to connect by Ethernet). Then open a browser window, use the URL provided with the instructions to connect to the booster, and follow the easy on-screen directions. You'll be up and running in three minutes.

In range or out of range? That is the question.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The price was very good, the ease of installation was easy enough for a tech challenged person like me, and the ease of use seemed pretty self explanatory. I thought I might have a problem once I read the instructions because the instructions mentioned that I must be out of range in order for this unit to boost my signal. I was experiencing one to two bars out of five at any given time. Once I hooked it up my signal increased to the maximum immediately and I was impressed. Moments later it would not recognize my computer. From then on it would not work. Every site I went on to research seemed to confirm that the unit must be in between the router and the computer, but just out of reach of the router's signal. No way could I do that. The salesman I spoke to mentioned someone he knew who used it successfully, but I think it was a much bigger house than mine. It could have been one of those 3000 to 6000 foot homes in the area. Mine is 2000 and the router was 3/4 of the house away from my computer. So, if you are experiencing what I experienced, then you may want to look at another option unless you can either move the router or the computer out of communication range. Then this unit should function perfectly. I ended up moving the router up a few feet and now I have at least three bars at any given time.

Notice: used more than 2 weeks? 1-star reviews

    Posted .

I loved this once we set it up - blazing fast Web, reaching through the large house with ease, easy set-up. I read some of the reviews saying it lost connections after about a week - no way, that can't really be true! Besides, if it happens, we can just power it on and off... We've had it for about 2 weeks. After about 2 days, it would drop connections. Now, even after unplugging and reinitializing, we just can't connect to it at all. It's not a setup issue (I'm a computer engineer and work with this stuff all the time). The device seems to just be a terrible design. I highly recommend you look elsewhere - and as you read reviews, look at: are the 5-star reviews all entered within a few days of setup?

I was dogsitting for a reletive for a couple of weeks. And their Router was all the way in their bedroom and the signal was so week across the house in the living room. I couldn't get online with my PS3. This device plugged in somewhere midway between the 2 locations help boost the signal from 1% to nearly 100% Easy to use. Might be a little confusing a bit to set it up. But not difficult. It's mainly plug it into the wall and register it with your computer. No CD installations. A must buy if you work in an area that the router signal is week in.

If you have problems at the edge of your wireless coverage (less than 3 bars) and/or you have challenges staying on your wireless network (regardless of bars) the WN2000RPT might just be your best friend! It costs less than a full blown wireless router, extremely easy to setup (for novice and advanced users alike) and provides the needed coverage and stability on the same subnet (extending the network using your existing wireless router). Admin console looks like the typical Netgear administration screen, with fewer options. Important caveats: - You MUST have an existing wireless network - You will NEVER get the same performance/speed as the primary wireless network. - This as a convenient, low cost, low effort, "last ditch" range-extender Overall - great product for "undemanding" users requiring solid coverage frustrated with their current situation. Just be sure you understand the WN2000RPT is NOT a second wireless router.

two-minute setup, great for A/V stuff

    Posted .

Bought this for hooking a network-enabled A/V receiver, blu-ray player, and TV to our network. They had to be CAT5 cable-connected and our (wireless + 4-port) router is too far away & on the other floor of the house. Basically, this thing takes the place of a long cable to our existing router, and has four jacks to plug things into in addition to its own wireless signal. Took literally two minutes to set up. It found our network, I typed in the password and give this extender a name and it was up and running. That's it, all done through an auto-loading browser page. I think a prior version of this product could only link wirelessly to another identical unit. But I found this one at the store and saw on the box graphics that now it can hook up to any wireless network. Which it did, painlessly. Ideal for this kind of hookup which is probably a common issue given all the internet stuff put in A/V equipment these days.

    Excellent find..

This solved a pain that I have lived with for many years.. I have a dead zone in my bedroom which is two levels away from the wireless router.. I was toying with buying the slingbox accessory that takes the signal over electric lines when I came across this in the best buy flyer.. and man am I happy.. it was a breeze to set up. though I wish the accompanying manual did more of a step-by-step on setting this up.. In any case, this is what I did.. 1. Take it out of the box and plug it in at the living room floor level. 2. Press the WAP button on the product till it starts flashing (now it is discovering your network) 3. Press the WAP button on your wi-fi router. You are done!!! simple as that. No need to connect with anything.. Now open your ipad/iphone/laptop and discover the network which shows up as ROUTER NAME_EXT.. select this as your wi-fi network.. the password is the same as your router (I had to guess that).. and Voila!!!... I am told the transmission is slower on this extension but I don't feel it.. I am not gaming and stuff... so I am cool with it.. Hope you find this useful! Good luck!

I am renting a room in a house and I am allowed to use the wireless. Sounds great until I couldnt get connection. I bought this device to extend their signal. I am able to secure my connection to their open unsecured network. THe signal is always strong. Sometimes when I try to connect i am unable. I look at the device it has a red light. I recycle power and I am back on. I am not sure what causes this to occassionally loose connection. However I am pleased with the purchas.
