This has certainly been the answer for the various wireless activities in our home. With all the t.vs, laptops, and tablets, it has let us spread the usage on our network.

Once setup works pretty good but has its flaws

I bought this so that I could have WIFI all over my house. I used to do computer repair while i went to school for Engineering and have installed hundreds of networks not bragging just making a point. I thought oh this should be easy. not quite. Kept kicking me out after everything was setup so every time I reconnected had to start the setup over. Finally hooked up a cable and had it set up in minutes. The WPS mode is annoying and did not work no matter how many times I pushed the button. And I have been using it for a few months and everyonce in a while have to reboot it cause I loose connection and can not reconnect.

Definitely provides a stronger signal on my first floor. My main router is on my 2nd floor. Only negative is sometimes it seems to lose its signal, so I have to turn it off then turn it back on to reset it.

    This is the quirk

    Posted .

I just installed the router extender and this is what isn't explained well. My house is three floors. The router is on the 2 floor. 2 and 1st floor have 54 Mbps the basement is intermittent at 10-24 Mbps. I installed the extender in the basement. Neat gear doesn't explain that the extender is a secondary connection. So " Home" is the name of my wifi the extender is "home-ext". When I use my laptop on floors 2 and 1 in have to be connected to home. When I am in my basement I have to manually connect to home-ext. also you have to set your wireless to manually not automatically connect to home ext. otherwise it may try to connect my other floors. If you can live with this quirk it is a great device. I now have 54 Mbps in my basement.

We purchased this to extend the wi-fi range in our house to our daughters' play room where their computer is situated. Very easy to install and worked immediately.

    Works as Promised

This device delivers as promised. I needed a WIFI signal on my deck and I now have it. Also, streamng video has become a lot better downstairs in my family room. The extender give you an extra WIFI hostspot in your home ending with the words "EXT" There are places in my home where the WIFI signal EXT works best and other places where the orginal signal is stronger. This could be a function of my iPhone/Ipad but you have to manually switch between the two wifi spotos depending on your location. My devices generally connect to nearest spot that I use when I'm at home. I wish there was a way for them to automatically switch based on the stronger signal. Still a great device.

I set this up, thru the web based app, and used the same WEP as my home wireless router. I was frustrated because my DirectTV would not allow me to go thru the setup - when i realized that the setup was for adding a wireless card, and i was 'hard-wired' thru this device. It was working perfectly, and i was able to download VOD programs, and connect wirelessly with my laptop.

    Almost Perfect Wi-Fi Extender

I got this to hook up my TV, Blu Ray, and Receiver to my wi-fi and to kick the signal to the rear of my house. It does great for both of these functions. I'm getting great Wi-Fi at my home entertainment center and I can use my iPhone, Laptop and Kindle at the back of the house with no problem. The only downside I have seen is the tendency to drop the network occasionally. Not often enough for me to take it down, maybe once every few weeks, but enough to cost it the extra star. Worth the price to do one or both of these functions.

    Great Solution for Wireless Extension

Was simple to set up for the most part but I did, due to my haste, had to go through the set up twice. But the great surprise to me is that it "blends/combines" with your existing wireless set up and they trully become one connection. In my ignorance my original thought would be that there would be 2 separate connections available for me to choose depending on what part of the house I would be located and which would be strongest. Instead it is the same whether outside or inside and there is only one connection!! Little thing but makes life soooo much easier. Highly recommend it and will be purchasing one for some of my family members that have sketchy range when I visit.

Very easy to set up, and works great! Extends the signal to both my wife's office, and out in to the backyard, so we can work out there.

    Always Drops Connection

Hello I bought this wireless extender in January and it was very easy to initially set up. But often this extender drops connection and needs to be restarted. It gets very annoying. I have went into settings, reset the extender, and read fourms about many more people having the same problems. No firmware update will repair it. Here is the address on NetGear's website: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=57989 Also, this fourm was created in 2010. There is still no solution. Customer support is terrible. You can only receive help within 90 days of the purchase. This is a horrible product. I will never buy NetGear again. I highly do not recommend this product. The company does not stand behind their products, as seen in the fourm.

I recently purchased a Desktop for my family, I also got a Netgear Router/DSL Modem. I was very impressed with the performance once I got it set up, although it did not take me very long to set up. It was a bit confusing at first but was able to get it all set up. I was able to connect with my existing router and able to get better signal! This product I would recommend to others, if you are doing HD Videos and video conferencing.

Extended Range, sort of, but cause some issues

In short, I have a Dlink DIR 655 down in my office on the other side of the house. It does fine down in that corner of the house but over time we have added a bunch of various wifi conected devices (tablets, phones, ipods, etc) and on the farther ends and the upstairs of the house the signal would get week and slow. I did a bunch of reading on the best way to extend the network signal accross to the other reaches of the house and even outside a bit. I have hard wired cat6 in the house but with a lot of little wireless devices I still need a strong wifi. I wasnt sure about this extender idea since it basically creates a wifi network of its own that then wirelessly repeats back to the router. I thought it may slow things down. I was right. It did slow things down enough to that even a strong signal thru the repeater was slower than the weak signal from the router on the other side of the house. (Yes the repeater had a good signal to the router). An even bigger deal is that it seems to isolate each wireless device you connect to it from others. By this i mean, even though the wireless connected device is connected and sharing the main connection to the outside internet, they dont see eachother. So all my little wireless devices can no longer stream music and video from the hardwired computers and NASes.. Something we do here alot. I am no netwrok engieneer or anything but I know my way around computers/electronics and tech stuff. So even though this did essensially exapand my wireless connectivity, the benifits are not worth it to me for what I lose. Since the speed of the weak signal from the source router is still faster than a strong signal from the repeater, this makes the repeater pointless to me.

I was able to power up the unit and was finished with the setup in 5 short minutes--it helps that the main router is also NetGear device. The unit has been working every since. No more dropped Internet on the side of my home that is not near the main router.

This Netgear Dual Band Wi Fi Extended does exactly what it's intended to do.. I now have full wi fi range no matter where I am in my house.. My source router is downstairs in the office and I was barely getting a signal upstairs. I purchased a NETGEAR WI FI Extender got it hooked up and now my signal strengh is through the roof!! My signal is so strong upstairs the signal bar actually glows at full strength..

Originally bought this product approximately eight weeks ago to extend my wifi across a two story house, and receive 100% connectivity throughout the house - this product is perfect for that. Quick and easy setup, even with my Cisco wireless router. Now I'm able to go on the internet anywhere in the house as well as outside on the deck - including a 100% connection for online gaming on any tv throughout the house which is great. Great product! Strongly recommend if you're looking to extend your wifi connection!

Kids were always complaining about the weak signal on the main floor of my large home with router in basement. Reviews were not very helpful, as some said they work great and were easy to set up while other reviews said exactly the opposite. I asked a BBC sales person about set up. He asked me on a scale of 1-10 how computer confident I am. I said, oh about a 6. He said I'd have no problem. I cheated and let my son set it up. It took him only a few minutes and boosted the WiFi signal 2 extra bars over the main floor area. I was looking for a 3 bar increase, but this still did the trick.
