The range extender is a great device letting you get more range from your router and over all nice device. Only set backs were with Vista's networking interface and Nintendo DS not being able to connect to this portal

    Just not good enough

If you have a child with a Wii, a child with an X-Box360, a child with a PS3, and multiple Nintendo DSi's, PSP's, iPod's, and 3 notebooks, then this product is not for you. I have a Dlink DIR-825 router and before I moved all the rooms were much closer so there was no problem connecting. Now that the router is on one side of the house and the kids junk is on the other side of the home the problems of connecting are bad. I thought that this range extender would do the trick but this thing is built for light weights. All of the kids stuff will connect but playing games online or streaming movies is impossible for the kids, even using one system or all at once. I know how to fix this situation but since a tornado hit our home and this is a rental home I can't run a hard line to the other side of this house and drop another router directly connected to the main router. I've had some experience with range extenders in the past and this netgear keeps up the great tradition of just not good enough. Also unless you are very experienced with routers and products like them the set up for you will be very difficult. Now just to summarize. This range extender is for light weights, if you just want to surf the web with no real downloading or uploading requirements then this will work for you. If you have an insane load of wifi needs from 3 or more crazy kids then this product is not for you.

Does a good job of what I bought it for. The only other issue is it creates a secondary network (xxxxxxxx.ext) that can be a little confusing to new users.

This device was cheap for a reason. Very limited configurability. Cannot communicate with connected devices across LAN. E.g. cannot connect wired printer to it and expect to print.

I have had nothing but problems with this device. I purchased this so that I could have wi/fi throughout my home. However, the first problem was that I kept losing internet connection. I have had to restart the extender about every other day to re-set it. I finally called tech support and the solution was to move the extender within 10 feet of the router! That completely defeated the purpose of getting the range extender! But, it gets better! The extender still kept losing connectivity! I called tech support again and I spent over an hour on the phone performing a firmware upgrade. The Net Gear tech support is horrible. You will get an agent who cannot speak English worth a darn. Good luck with them. I would tell anyone who is looking for a range extender to steer clear of anything by Netgear! One other thing, be ready to be disconnected numerous times and to wait on hold for a long time when you call Netgear. They suck!

At first, I wanted to be a smart alec and buy the cheaper wifi extender thinking I would save some money. However I was dead wrong. The cheaper one couldn't pick up the wifi signal very well, I had to put it right next to the router, which rendered it useless. Then I went out and bought this one and it is doing more than I could ask for. I have this product on the opposite side of the house from the router. It picks up the signal very well and gives me great and fast wifi in my back yard and garage. Great product!

I did a little research, knowing i needed some type of "booster", "antenna", etc. for my wi-fi connection; the bldg is about 100 yrs old so the fair signal had me chained to one area of my condo, this range extender delivered BIG TIME! within 10 mins of reviewing my two different connection options & installation, it was "green light" city & i was using my amplified wi-fi signal on my laptop at the opposite end of my condo.

The extended does quite function up to expectation or published statements. One would be served purchasing a Wireless Access Point rater than a range extender. This option (range extender) should be the point of no return. I have nothing but connections prolems since deploying this device. Removed it and installed a WAP and all works beautiful. DLinks makes one for about $15 less than the extender.

    Why buy an "extender" ?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Why not just buy an "access point"? Roughly the same price. The extender works well but it creates an ADDITIONAL wireless network. Why not just buy an access point for your existing wireless network? Makes more sense. This way when you go from room to room you don't have to switch from one network to another. If you're sure you need an "extender", then this one works quite well.
