We had the original 3DS, which eventually broke after several years of frequent use. This one was cheaper, had a bigger screen, and is faster.

Larger screen and way better graphics are the main difference between the new 3DS and the old one. Worth the trade.

Given that the New 2DS Xl just released, one has to decide whether the $50 upgrade to the New 3DS Xl is worth it for what many youtubers call a "gimmick". For me, the New 2DS wasn't out yet, and I really enjoyed the 3D effect on my previous Xl, it just wasn't stable enough to use consistently. With the 3D stability fixed and a number of other hardware upgrades going from the original to the new xl, I finally decided to take the plunge. Boy was it worth it! The new face tracking 3D allows me to play more intense games like Metroid Prime Federation Force (which defaults to using gyroscopic movement to aim) while still keeping that awesome 3D effect going. The processing boost and added buttons/mini c stick are welcome additions as well. In relation to the Galaxy Style that I purchased, it looks fantastic. I was a little worried at first because I'm not a purple type of guy, but I really wanted that nice midnight blue for the inside casing, so I got it anyway. The Galaxy cover looks amazing though, and it looks better and better every time I look at it. In short, if you have the money and the $50 upgrade from the 2D version to the 3D version is worth it to you, go for it! This system did not disappoint. [Now I just have to find someone to buy my standard red 3DS Xl ;-D]

I got this for my wife and she loves it. It is easy to use and setup. It is just the right size so as not to be cumbersome, yet big enough to see the screen.

I considered buying the last version of the 3DS XL when it was released. But the 3D effects weren't as great as I hoped. Although it looked great, it required keeping your 3DS screen at a very precise angle. If you moved your head or the system the effect would be lost, and the screen would be almost painfully blurry. This is issue was addressed with the New 3DS. Basically the 3D effects are now viewable from almost any angle. The new model is also more powerful than the last 3DS XL, and includes built in NFC for amiibo support. If you already own the the old 3DS XL you may appreciate the new version's better 3D and faster load times. If you plan on buying the New 3DS XL, you may also want to purchase a new micro SD card. It comes with a 4 GB card installed, which is adequate for normal usage. But space can run out quickly if you plan downloading games from the eShop. Also you'll need to purchase a power adapter if you don't have one from a previous DS system.

It does what the original Nintendo 3DS does, but much better. Any Nintendo enthusiast would be crazy not to own one of these. With that being said, I would not recommend this one to beginners or casual players. This is because: 1. It doesn't come packaged with an AC adapter like other Nintendo handhelds do, 2. Many of the new functions (Face tracking 3D, C Stick, ZR/L Buttons, Built-in amiibo Support) are only useful to certain games and players that often use the 3D, and 3. In order to replace the microSD card, one needs to open the back of the system with a precision screwdriver.

So I've had handhelds games before from gameboy color to psp and now this. I was a bit skeptical at first before purchasing the The nintendo 3ds xl but then i finally opened the box once finals were done and was addicted. I only play so far older DS games but I'm looking to purchase pokemon and zelda soon (once these finals are done). Its a large screen which is great and not straining. I highly recommend to anyone of any age!. Im 24 and will forever play video games. This great device just adds to my already awesome collection!! XOXO Nintendo & Best Buy!!

The new 3ds is awesome. The 3d is way better and everything loads faster. The only drawback I can think of is that I couldn't get the majoras mask edition.

The big n took the 3ds to the next level. The 3d is now usable. The circle pad is represented by more of a nub but it's functional. Huge screens. New shoulder buttons are placed well. Games load a lot faster. Downloads are insanely fast. Only downside is lack of a power cable.

I had the original 3ds from launch day. I was never interested in upgrading to the model, but once the new 3ds came out I had to give it a try. My decision was based on reviews of the new console and I am not disappointed. The size difference between this model and the original is enough to make me wish I had upgraded to the xl model sooner. The screen is amazing, and the new nub works like it's supposed to. I am anticipating the release of xenoblade chronicles 3ds in April to see what what this console can really do. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Buy this if you have an original 3DS or 2DS, wait until the price drops below 150 if you have an XL. The 3D is actually usable now, and it's super fast.

The upgrade from a 3DS XL to the New 3DS XL isn't a huge upgrade, and not nessisary unless you really want an integrated thumbstick, stable 3D, and the exlusive games for the New 3DS. Upgraring from the original 3DS would be a great upgrade. The only reason I'm a little disappointed is because I have annoying dead pixel I can see during black screens. Other than that, the New 3DS XL is a great purchase and makes games even more fun yo play in 3D.

I already reviewed this item but forgot to mention that it didn't come with a charger. Very disappointing, especially for the price. I didn't notice that and since it was for Christmas, my granddaughter had no way to charge it until they could go purchase one.

I wish Nintendo had been more creative with the name rather than just adding the word "New." I can see that causing a lot of confusion, but that's my only complaint about this system. The new face-tracking 3D feature works beautifully and makes playing in 3D more enjoyable. The faster processor dramatically reduces loading tImes. I haven't played any games that require the "new 3DS" so I don't know how well the additional joystick works, or if the additional z buttons will be easy to access, but I am looking forward to the opportunity to find out.
