Surpassed my Expectations by a Landslide

I bought this lil' guy in the mindset of "Oh boy, another Nintendo handheld with minimal changes to drain my wallet. Woo." But my old 3Ds was starting to have buttons wear out, soooo why the heck not. Get the new fancy one. I am very glad that I did. The changes they made on this one are significant enough to feel worth it. The more stable 3D fixes the rather nasty issue of crazy headaches the old 3D was pretty infamous for. And the little joystick on the right makes a handful of games much easier to enjoy. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. All in all, I would say this is totally worth it if: - this would be your first 3Ds (just don't forget a charger!) - You have one of the small ones (not an XL) - Any of the buttons on your current 3Ds are starting to go - the 3D on your older model is hurting your eyes Not so much worth it if: - you have an XL already and it works fine. This one's better, sure, but maybe not $200-something worth of better. But, if you trade yours in, you can get a nice chunk off the price. Soo.. Might be worth it even still. Happy gaming!

Pros: Perfect size Big screen Easy and fun to understand Cons: You have to buy the charger separately The camera is very low quality camera Why doesn't this gaming system come in pink?!? If you're looking to purchase this for yourself or someone else, I'd definitely recommend you do! I'm super satisfied with my purchase. I've had no internal issues or glitches. The battery life is pretty good as well. It's fun and entertaining.

The New 3DS is far nicer than the original 3DS. It's facial reader is much nicer which gives for far better 3D from more angles so you don't need to hold it in one awkward position while playing on it. The processor is better, and games open and close faster, and the added nub, although only for a few games right now, works way better than the original 3DS/C-Stick accessory combo. All in all, a great gaming device with great games.

Faster processor. Slightly larger screens. C stick. Additional bumper buttons on the top. Larger memory card capacity and 3D face tracking! This thing is feature packed. Works with our exisiting 3DS collection and will future proof the new titles that will eventually require the faster processor this unit contains. My only concern is that hinge issue that destroyed the previous 3DS XL we had. Let's hope you fixed that issue Nintendo!

I am very happy I upgraded to the New 3ds XL. The new c-stick is great for moving the camera around when playing games. I also like how much faster this 3ds feels. I would definitely recommend upgrading if you have the original 3ds and have a bunch of 3ds games you want to play. The bigger screen and buttons definitely make it a better experience.

Picked this up for the faster processor and eye(head) tracking 3D mainly. The C-Stick is ok, just requires more movement than using the full on circle pad pro XL. I just don't like the Circle Pad Pro because it makes the screen off center. I was hoping that it would support micro SDXC (64Gb+), but it only supports Micro SDHC(4Gb-32Gb), as it must still use FAT32, and not exFAT. I'm glad it finally progressed to using smaller micro format SD memory for storage, as it is a lot more mainstream, thanks to most other mobile devices some cameras, and tablets. From what I have read the cpu power and extra battery life comes from the optimization features of a custom Snapdragon 600 chip, which boosts the wifi from b to n+, and makes the browser actually useful now. Some older games got some framerate boosts as well, starting with the likes of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, and Mario Kart 7. This will definitely tide me over until Nintendo's next generation Project Fusion system featuring a free form Panasonic display, capable of being a console and handheld(basically what the WiiU tried to do, but completely on the Go portable if not hooked up to a tv. I'm ready for Nintendo's comeback, and this system is a great start to what I'm sure to be another high volume great handheld. My only cons are the same as any flat handheld console. Need some type of grip to use for longer than 45 minutes without hands cramping up from having to bend fingers uncomfortably and rest the device in my palms. I'm hoping that Hori brings out a grip soon for larger hands to get some relief and enjoy longer play sessions.

New 3DS is worth every penny. The biggest feature, the 3D auto-tracking. No longer will you have to adjust the 3DS itself to hit the 3D sweet spot, it does it for you. Works especially well even in pitch black with just the backlight from the 3DS screen. The c-stick is kind of lack-luster. Its wedged in, very little feedback when using it. It does come in handy for games like Monster Hunter, but I still find myself using the D-Pad and the digital D-Pad. The new 3DS also has the additional bumpers added by the old circle pad pro built in. The new 3DS is noticeably faster in loading apps and navigating than my old one which is a huge plus. One annoyance is that to swap out the MicroSD card, you have to unscrew the back. Then you have to pop the back off which is on pretty tight and I ended up scuffing the pry spots a little trying to get it off using the stylus like they recommend. I ended up using my fingernails which worked just as good and didn't damage the back. Additional benefit is that the battery is now swap-able should it ever go bad. I did a 3DS > 3DS local wireless transfer. It took 3 1/2 hours to complete which was longer than expected. I did have 6 or so digital games stored on it so not a flaw but if you have any decent amount of storage on your old 3DS I'd recommend doing the PC transfer. All in all, 100% worth upgrading to the new one if you have some spare change as you can make at least 1/4-1/2 of it back selling your old 3DS.. Again don't forget to keep your old charger or get a spare one.

my one negative thing is the battery still takes forever to charge. other than that this is much better 3ds than the old one hey has a better processor better 3d the cstick but really is not use right now. if you have the very first 3 DS its a good upgrade if you have the XL you can wait but if you have the money it's a good buy.

I never owned a 3ds but always wanted one. So, when I heard that Nintendo was coming out with a new 3ds that was even better than the old one I jump on the chance to finally get one. It works great; I love it!! I had bought the old 3ds for my GF about 2 years ago so I know from comparison that it's way faster, especially during downloads. The 3d head fracking system makes the 3d way more stable, and the c stick works surprisingly well. Don't know about the new ZL & ZR since there's no game that really uses um but I like how you can use um in the main menu to slide on the bottom sceen. Also, I really like the look of it; the shine makes it look very elegant and non-cheap looking. Overall I love my New 3DS XL. However, I'm not sure if I would've bought one if I already had the old one though because it just doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade to pay so much money for. But since I don't have one, I love it! So much fun to play with my GF! And Majora's Mask 3DS is awsome! C stick is perfect for that game! Would defenety recommend it for someone who doesn't already have the old 3ds.

This is how the 3D should have worked the first time. It's great that you don't have to hold it super still in order to enjoy the 3D. The 3D alone made it worth it for me to upgrade from my old 3DS XL. The DS boots faster and smoother. I've spent hours on it, but I don't have a game that utilizes the c-stick so I can't tell you how that works. The sound coming out of the speakers is amazingly loud. I like the new placement of the game card slot as in the old 3DS XL, the game might pop out during travel. If the system was in sleep mode, I would lose any progress. I haven't had that problem this time. Battery life is far better too. The one downside is that it doesn't come with a charging cord. If this is your first system, you'll have to buy one, but if you have others, it uses the same charger. Sorry Best Buy, but Walmart sells a 3rd party charger for $8. I read that Nintendo had included so much more upgraded hardware in the system, they had to choose whether to keep the price point at $200 or not supply the charger. I like their choice myself.

It seems every 3ds that comes out it better than the last, but that is the idea, right? This is no disappointment. The face tracking 3D is far better than previous models. It is also faster as far as processing goes. The new c-stick will be a great feature once we get more games that utilize it.

First off, let me say that when playing the original 3ds, my eyes could not handle the 3D function. Turning it on messed with my eyes and made the games I was playing significantly less enjoyable. Not only that, since the 3D wasn't stable like with the new model, playing games like smash bros required you to play with it turned off. The New 3ds fixes this issue by employing the use of super stable 3d with head tracking technology. So you can move around without any loss of the 3d visual effect. Another important feature is the systems higher processing power, which allows you to play large scale games, like Xenoblade Chronicles. It also permits faster loading times on games. Granted, there aren't any games right now that require the use of the system's higher processing power other than Xenoblade, but there will most definitely be more down the line. Lastly, the new c-stick (the grey nub on the left side of the system) is used for camera control. This allows for so many more gaming possibilities on the system which will hopefully be utilized more in the future by game development companies.

I have had my NEW 3DS XL for a while now, and I can easily say it is one of the best handheld video game consoles out. The large screen and new tracking 3D makes playing 3D games so much more enjoyable. No longer do you need to hold your 3DS perfectly still to be able to see if in 3D without the image splitting. The C pad adds a much needed camera utility that was a vital tool missing in previous incarnations. The built in C pad also eliminates the need for the bulky C Pad Pro adapter. The battery life is also improved, as is the loading times and processing power. All in all, the system is worth it for an upgrade or a new purchase. The only downfall is the absence of a power/charge cable. If you are upgrading, it is wise to keep your old one, or purchase the cable separate for around $20.00. I don't regret this purchase a single bit and I have put in far too many hours on Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. This console is for everyone from the younger child looking to play art games and Mario, to the older audience looking for Zelda 3D remakes and Monster Hunters.

    Improved 3DS

Improved 3DS model with faster processor, better 3D, improved controls, and a built-in NFC panel for Amiibo support. The processor upgrade isn't terribly useful yet but it'll eventually allow for New 3DS-specific games that require more power than the old unit. The stereospcopic front-facing camera can now track your eyes, providing for a 3D picture that doesn't fade out if the unit is tilted or you move your head - not perfect though as if you close an eye for a second or scratch your face it can cause the 3D to flicker as it loses track of your eye. The controls are now laid out in the same fashion as a Wii U gamepad, which will allow for greater cross-compataibility between games like Smash Bros. The new L2 and R2 buttons are a welcome addition but the right hand C stick seems stiff and doesn't repond as easily as either left hand control. It may be relegated to secondary purposes like rotating the camera angle, as in Majora's Mask 3D. Overall well worth the $25 price over the previous model.

I have owned a variety of consoles, and when it comes to handhelds I've had every single Nintendo handheld since the gameboy color. The new Nintendo 3ds xl has to be the best one by far. I had the original 3ds and always found myself turning off the 3d function because it was hard to stay in the sweet spot. Not only is this fixed with the new system through face tracking, it has a much better screen and the color representation is much more saturated and nice to look at. Along with the face tracking the hardware improvements are very noticeable when loading up games, the eshop, and even going to the home screen. The c-stick is also very useful in game, I find my self constantly using it to position the camera I'm Zelda Majora's Mask 3d, and it allows for much more seamless play. Bottom line is this new system is a very worthwhile upgrade for any iteration of Nintendo handheld, it's amazing how much the 3ds can do now a days, and regardless of your age this thing is FUN.

This version has faster internals and a 3D that is actually usable, unlike in the old 3ds where everyone kept the slider off. This one has the potential to play games like Xenoblade which is impossible on the old one. Some games, like Monster Hunter 4, gets improved visuals with the New 3DS. The c-stick is very responsive and works great for moving the camera in Monster hunter and codename steam, but its not optimal for twitch movements. Built in amiibo support is also a big plus. This is a great buy if you can afford the upgrade. If you are looking to buy a 3ds, make sure to get the new 3ds, its worth the slightly higher cost. Charger is not included so make sure you pick one up if you don't have it. Despite popular belief, there is almost 0 profit margin on these so the system would cost $210 if they were to include it. Nintendo wasn't being cheap, they already make no money off the system.

Let's begin with the fact that the 3DSXL is amazing. I'm not much for portable systems, preferring to play games on my phone when on the go. But, this system, which was a present for my son for a car trip to keep him busy, has captured my attention when I have the chance. Nice, big screen. Simply cool 3D without the need for glasses. Solid, sturdy construction. Great catalog backed by Nintendo exclusives. The only reason I'd say to go with the 2DSXL over 3DSXL is if, like my wife, you suffer from a vision issue that prevents seeing the 3D itself. (Keep in mind, the 3DSXL has a slider that allows you to reduce the 3D effect all the way to a flat 2D, so no need to worry if it's a shared device between family that have different "vision requirements". So, if you're torn based solely on budget, save your money and do without until you can invest in the 3D- it really is THAT cool. So... WHY, with all my positivity, is there a 4 star rating? This is important, so if you choose to purchase a 3DSXL, be prepared. There is NO charging cable included. That's right, should you not purchase one with your newly acquired 3DSXL, and you unpack it to a low or zero charge, you've effectively bought a paperweight until you can head back to the store and purchase one. I'm of the "big love for tech," sort, and cables I can salvage from almost anything outdated over the years generally remain in one of several storage boxes, and amongst the hundred old cables in them, not a single one was compatible. So, after opening the 3DSXL at night, having next to no charge, no compatible cable, it required returning the next day and another $15 in order to actually play it. This is ridiculous, but made more unforgivable by the fact that there's no notice on the box that the charging cable is not included. Due to no highlighting of this fact, it took some time for it to dawn on me that it wasn't that my system was somehow missing the cable (despite being sealed). It took a second reading of the setup to realize that in the charging section, where it showed the connection, that it had (cable sold separately) listed. There may be plenty of reasons Nintendo chose not to include it, which, in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing... Although I simply cannot recall purchasing any portable electronics over the years that didn't include a way to actually charge it so it could... you know... WORK. No, it's the fact that this isn't highlighted BOLDLY upon the box so people can make their entire purchase in one visit.
