Bigger is Better. You won't miss the 3D.

I was using a "new 3DS" and I have big hands. It got to a point with Metroid that I needed something bigger. The new 2DS XL is a excellent choice. Don't over paid for the new 3DS XL. The new 2DS XL will do just fine.

I had a chance to try out a demo of this and I can say that at the VERY LEAST it's as good as a 3DS XL in terms of graphics, controls, and sound minus the 3D (of course). Screen size is the same, the case shell seems flimsy to the touch but it it makes the entire system lighter than a 3DS. Major things I'm not fond of is the cover to the cart slot, so switching games got A BIT annoying and might result in the cover hinges breaking through wear and tear, another annoyance was the stylus slot got a VERY tight fit so you might need to sand it down or have strong fingernails when pulling it out. Overall for the price tag, I'd rather get a 3DS, if it was 120-130 then I would consider it.

Big screens nice - everything else feels cheap

I enjoyed the larger screens vs. my original 3DS but the tiny stylus is unusable and the loose hinge means the top screen flops around with more than a half-inch of motion making the whole system feel like a cheap toy. I'm seriously debating on exchanging for 3DS XL even though I don't use/want 3D. Textured case feels good in your hands - no sweat or slippage, but the top screen is super glossy and reflective, so plan on playing in dark room or not at all. Screen is also brighter but that seems to wash out the colors a bit. The trap door to get to game card slot is a pain to open and I see that paper-think hinge breaking in a month or two. ALSO - this system uses MICRO SD memory card even though 8 independent professional reviews all said SD, forcing an extra trip to Best Buy to exchange SD for MICRO SD. I guess the rule is to always buy micro with the adapter.

Previously I had a New 3DS XL, and the 3D gave me a headache so I sold it hoping Nintendo would come out with a larger 2DS that would be cheaper than the New 3DS XL and here it is! I really like the new design and don't really mind the shorter stylus. Definitely consider purchasing if you have an old 2DS or an old 3DS and want a faster processor without the 3D option, or if you haven't joined the 3DS family yet!

    Major Design Flaw

I am an avid Nintendo fan but this product has a serious flaw. On our 9 year old sons first Blue 2ds XL unit, after only 2 months of use the top screen picture started showing a large triangle shape with a crack and horizontal and vertical lines throughout rendering the unit unusable at all. Thinking he must have dropped it or damaged it unknowingly by accident, we bought him a second 2ds XL, (the new orange version) and within 2 weeks that unit started having the same exact issue and we know for a fact he didn't drop that one and used it very gently-the lines crack and everything were exactly identical to the first one. Luckily the orange unit was purchased from Target with a RedCard and they refunded us on a gift card for that unit. However, the Blue Unit purchased from Bestbuy will have to go through Nintendo's repair process which I'm almost certain they'll want some unreasonable amount of money for (Usually $110 for 3ds XL Screen Repair). My other son has had two 3ds XL's and the oldest previously had a standard 2ds. I personally started gaming on the original Game Boy and we have a plethora of Nintendo products at home (Wii, WiiU, Switch and 2/3DS). It appears the new Nintendo products are not being made with the same quality as previous generations.

Great device for 3DS games, absolutely kills the Nintendo Switch in durability, I had one of these for a year, and still have it, had a Switch for a week, broke, while I was taking great care of it.
