    There are a lot of security systems out there that will put a big dent in your pocket. However, from that you expect both high quality video and product. I have mixed feelings about the Night Owl system. On the one hand and as others have said, this is definitely a budget friendly system. Four cameras at this price point is almost unheard of. However, I also live in California where it is very hot (we’re currently in a streak of 14 100+ days), and I worry about how the plastic cameras will hold up over time. Obviously it doesn’t get as cold here, but I could see that being a concern in some areas as well. Set-up is fairly straightforward. I already had pre-drilled holes from a previous system, otherwise I would have needed a handyman (that is not my strong suit!) Overall, if you’re looking for a little extra security but don’t have a huge budget, this isn’t a bad choice. It does what it promises, but I am concerned about how well it will hold up long term. With that in mind, I give it a cautious thumbs up and would recommend it.

    Hired someone to install. Overall connection is secure and the interface is easy to navigate. The app makes video and storage management effortless. Picture quality is great both in day and night conditions and the spotlight feature is super helpful when motion is detected. I feel safer in my home having a watchful eye surrounding the house.

    I got this with high hopes of adding to the exterior for a little extra security, but didn't really feel the cameras added any curb appeal. I have cameras elsewhere that are a few years older but look much more hi tech and just made these look like an inferior product. I ended up just using them inside the garage. I have no complaints with the functionality because they work as advertised and were easy to set up. As competitive as this product category is, this particular system doesn't stand out from the crowd, doesn't really have any exciting new features, and doesn't carry as strong of a warranty as other security cameras I have. Price is good, software works well, just didn't end up being right for the exterior of my home.

    OK, But Dated

    If you didn't know Q-see folded about a month ago. After selling millions of units through costco... we q-seerers are SOL. Things that Q-see did that I liked... Their interface allowed you to choose three layers of sensitivity on the cameras. Very similar to the blocks that you check to exclude areas of detection, Q-see was the opposite, you chose the areas you wanted to detect and could choose three layers of detection with each box. If you had a space in the frame that you knew was never going to get shadows or a false movement, you could set it on the highest sensitivity. I've been unable to tell if I use the timelapse feature how soon my 8 cameras will fill up my 1tb drive... I also have a Wyze cam 3, and the night vision of that camera blows away the Nightowl, but I haven't had the Wyze long enough to know if the wireless will be reliable. You would think that with gain and the way our phones are able to take low light pics that the nightowl cams could come close, but their night images are really grainy...images of yesteryear. I've also been unable to figure out how to disable the channels that I'm not using so I don't have blank boxes in the UI. As other's have commented on the plastic base, how will it hold up to UV? Time will tell, I'm certain they will last through the 2 year warranty period, but is that long enough? Setup was relatively easy, but the interface is crude and lacking in info. Would be really nice to have help bubbles when mouse hovering, and clicking on boxes and nothing happens. Like in the camera page, clicking on enable doesn't remove the check from the box. Nothing happens, hence my inability to remove unwanted channels from the viewing pane. This system is OK but I'm thinking Wyze is ahead of the game in the resolution and friendlier interface. I'm not going to return the system and hope that Night Owl will steel some software coders from Tesla and give us a really awesome UI update in the near future.

      Good Afternoon. We are sorry to hear you are having an issue with a few of this system's features. This system does allow you to adjust the motion sensitivity of each camera. However, each camera can only be set to one setting, not multiple. If there are trouble areas within a camera's field of view, we have detection grids that can be set for each camera. This helps eliminate false alerts and conserve hard drive space. If you have empty channels, there are multiple view layouts to choose from. Choose the one that best fits the number of cameras you have. Or.... set up slide show mode to just display the cameras you have. Or... setup up a privacy mode for those channels so they do not display from a tv/monitor. There are multiple options.     Great product, but get the warranty, the hard drive goes out every 8 months for me, 4th replacement....,... Easier to replace hard drive than to take down all cameras

    Dont waste your money

    I purchased and installed this system to monitor a vacation property. We've had more problems than imaginable, and Night Owl gives you NO SUPPORT when you are physically near your device. You can leave the property with system working, then when cameras go out, signals are lost, cameras are beeping loudly, not recording , etc. there is no help available. This is especially frustrating when you are monitoring remotely with phone app - are getting notifications (meaning dvr has power, and internet is working), but still get no assistance diagnosing why you have no video feeds. Camera quality is decent WHEN it decides to work.

    Left High and Dry

    I dont have this exact system but i do have night owl product THD series. Im writing this review based on set up, ease of use, and customer service for Night Owl products. The intial set is lengthy and confusing if you plan to use the app for away from home use. It requires multiple log in's. Everytime you want to do any function on the system you ha e to log in. As soon as you perform that function it logs you back out. There are so many functions with no explanation of what they do, its very confusing. Finally the customer service no longer is provided 24 hours as previously offered. Also the no longer provide cutomer service cor older systems. I purchased mine 3 years ago. In closing if you want to be left high amd dry then Night Owl is the system for you.

    Tech Support doesn't exist.

    Purchased this unit for x-mas of 2019, installed in August 2020. Worked great for 1 month. Then, try to use the app and get a message "add device fail". After numerous times of following online instructions still get same message. Tried their chat feature with tech support twice and the chat window just disappeared both times. Tried calling and after 55 minutes and 40 seconds of listening to circus music while on hold it just hung up. I bought this unit to replace a ten year old one that was doing the same thing. If I hadn't waited so long to install, I would DEFINITELY be returning this piece of junk. SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy something else!!!

    Insanely bad customer service don't buy it

    Bought this system on Sunday, installed cameras on Monday, plunged it in and NOTHING! Just logo screen. There is no way to get hold of anyone at Night Owl just internet chat or lots of FAQ which are no help at all. So to chat screen, Is it plugged in? Are you using the plugs provided? It is defective. Send us a copy of your receipt within 5 days, Okay how and where do I send it? Hello? anyone there Hello? Tried again, sat at number 1 inline 1 and a half hours. gave up, taking down the useless cameras and back to the store 40 miles away, dont buy it.

    The wires aren’t long enough and easy to pull apart, the adapter to plug in the cameras don’t work, the view isn’t as it describes, I don’t recommend this camera system.

    Buy some other brand - Don't buy a Night Owl. Tech Support will only help as long as they can figure it out and then it's on you - No more support. Read the description carefully - Have to have Night Owl Protect to review remotely and if it doesn't work - then you are out of luck. Never will I buy a Night Owl product - everything has to be perfect to work and it's not always like that.

    Don't waste your money

    The only reason I am giving this product 1 star is because no stars isn't an option. Save your money and buy a Lorax system. The apps never work the cameras are subpar and tech. support is everything but support. The only reason I still have this system is because it was installed in my new home 6 months after initial purchase.

      Hi there. We recently experienced an issue with our Night Owl Connect and Night Owl X Apps that affected connectivity for some customers. Our team worked to fix the issue as quickly as we could and we apologize for the inconvenience. The problem has been fixed and connectivity has been restored. Please power down your DVR/NVR and power it back on. Then close out of the app and reopen it. You should then be able to connect with no problems.     Do not waste your money

    I made the mistake of purchasing these cameras. Do not waste your money the customer service is as bad as the cameras and you will never to an English speaking representative. They hang up on you and the cameras do not capture licenses plates. I am stuck with this garbage until i get money to buy new ones.

    Poor product don’t buy

    Worst security system ever and all the night owl company will tell you when your not satisfied is return to Best Buy. I had this product less then a year and already two months straight unable to use it the cords keep going out and not work at all.
